The worst night stay

During our 16 day trip to france/italy we stayed at this hotel. It was without rival the worst hotel stay I have ever been over charged for.

The room temperature was unbearably hot!! When we brought this to the attention of the staff we were told that there was a problem with the heating and air conditioning due to seasonal switch over and to sleep with our window open. Our window over looked a very busy street. In addition to the heat (created by the central heating system) our shower was dirty with a ring around the tub and there was hair on the pillow. We got no sleep for $400.00!!

We tried to speak with management in the morning but he/she would not take the time. The front desk offered to discount the room %10, which I felt was far short of a solution. I left in a huff and my credit card was charged the full amount. Avoid this hotel!

They should consider it a crime when a hotel charges as much for the experience this hotel delivers. The heat was stuck on a very hot temperature, there was hair in our bed, and the bath tub was very dirty with a ring!!
The staff was very arrogant.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Best Western Premier Hotel

Better than these reviews

from John_S_2004
I was nervous about our reservation after reading some of these reviews but my wife and I had a very enjoyable stay at the Premier for six nights starting September 5. It seems the lower floors have been renovated and ours had not but the room was perfectly fine with a view of the sea and the Negresco. The hotel staff, particularly Monika at the front desk, were very helpful with arrangements. The restaurant was good and the terrace was terrific for breakfast and cocktail time. The location was super and made for very easy access to the highways for our driving day trips. There was a garage a block away as well.

Great location, poor accomodation

Spent 2 nights in the so called Best Western "Premier" West End Hotel. Premier it most certainly is not. Although the hotel looks magnificent and is in a wonderful location, the rooms are of a low standard and in no way should be considered four star, two star would be pushing it. This hotel should be avoided until such time as all rooms are modernised. I felt completely ripped off after staying here.

Good, clean, affordable hotel

Stayed at this hotel at the start of July 2004. Front desk staff were polite and professional. Room was spacious, clean and way above what I was expecting for the price paid. This was booked via the Best Western website. I would certainly stay here again.

Nice view but old rotten decor in the rooms

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at the West End for 4 nights in July 2004 with my wife. First the good - we reserved a seaview room and were put on the top floor with a great view of the sea and the Promenade. The service, contrary to other reviews here, we found to be very good. Maybe they listened! But the room decor was atrocious. 1970's awful. Almost didn't want to check in or have to touch anything, but ultimately the view won us over. The A/C works great which is a plus. If cheapo Best Western would just redo the rooms it would be a great hotel. But if you are picky on cleanliness - I would avoid this one.

t recommend

We stayed at the West End about 16 mos. ago. As I just 'discovered' Trip Advisor, I thought I would leave comments now, even though some time has passed. This hotel was the worst that we have ever stayed in. We were put in an un-refurbished room that had a huge gaping hole in the side of the bathtub. The room was dreary & worn, even tacky. It was also next to an elevator which shook & rattled all day & night. I actually took photos to show our travel agency when we got home because you 'had to see it to believe it'. The staff did not make up for the dismal accomodations. We complained & were encouraged to try it for one more night. The noise was so bad that at 2 AM we insisted upon changing rooms. We were then given a better room. All in all, we would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

We booked a seaview room at this hotel through Expedia and when we got there they told us they didn't have any left.
Our room didn't face anything but air conditioning units.
The pictures on Expedia are for the renovated rooms only. The top 2 floors of this hotel are still not renovated, our room was on the top floor (6th). The front of the sink was kicked in and the room was completely crappy, with wallpaper peeling. There were pigeons on the roof and our window sill. They woke us up at 5:30 in the morning scratching at the roof...totally discusting. This was NOT what we paid for.

I ended up getting only a $50 COUPON...not a refund from Expedia, which is BS. It didn't even total the difference they advertised on line for the seaview vs "patio"view...I never saw any "patio".
This hotel needs to renovate ALL of their rooms. Showing only the renovated rooms is FALSE advertising!!!

Not so Nice

Ratty around the edges. Ratty old carpet in room. Unkept squeeky stairways. Needs a serious facelift. We do not recommend. Only saving grace is location across from beach on Promenade de Anglais.

Good deal and Great Location!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed here in September 2002 for about a week. I do agree with the front desk comments. Most of the people we encountered there were snobby and cold. However, by the end of our stay a nice young man came on duty and he was charming and sweet. They need to work on their attitude if they are in a customer service business. They were remodeling some of the upper floors and we ended up with a first floor room that we didn't think was "Deluxe", which we signed up for, but when we saw the other options we loved our room. They were nice to show us the other choices though. It acutally turned out to be wonderful! We had a front and center view of the sea and beach and we were on the first floor, but actually you were a few flights up, not ground level at all. I don't do ground level. The room was newly done and clean and the bathroom was new also. The breakfast there is fabulous! The adorable tables semi-outside right along the main street, but yet surrounded with plants, trees, flowers. The food was wonderful every single morning. It was included with our room, we never paid extra. I don't know how things are there now, but we were considering going back again in 2005. Not sure if we'll stay here again, but if we could pick that same room and other things have not changed, it would be a great deal. The location can't be beat either! It had a lot of charm and character. When I look at the photos I think that was a pretty nice place. We are more fussy too. Not happy in a little 2 star or bare bones place AT ALL, so if we were comfortable there, it couldn't have been too bad. We usually spend $200 and up for rooms in most of Europe.

All in all, I give this hotel good marks. But do request the nicest room on the lower floor facing the main street and the sea. I wish I could remember the number.

Arrogant Receptionist

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed for five nights in May 2004 - Grand Prix weekend. Although we expected to pay over the odds at this time of year, the charge was extortionate for the quality of the hotel and the service we received. No way is this hotel 4 star. Rooms are very small and the decor is very old. We had to check in three times until our room was allocated. The receptionist was a fairly young dark-haired girl who was extremently rude and totally unapologetic when she made mistakes. The first time we checked in (at 11am) we were told to come back at 1pm. We returned at 1pm and gave our name, to be told aggresively "that's not the name you checked in under earlier" - then she found the check in card - in the name I gave her!! - no apology for her error. The room was still not ready and we were asked to return at 2pm. After another frustrating wait we returned at 2.20pm, to be told"It's still not ready - I TOLD YOU 2pm". At which stage I looked at my watch, glared at her - to her horror she realised her error. Still no apology, but a couple of hurried phone calls - until the room was ready. It then took 1.5 hours - and an irate phone call from me - for the bell boy to bring our luggage up to our room - 2 bags! The bar was not open every night - it was closed Sunday for no apparent reason. The hotel is all in all of really poor quality. The only plus point was the restaurant. The service was excellent and the food was superb.

relaxing break

we stayed at the west end in february 2004 the rooms were very comfortable and well equiped with sea views and balcony. the staff very friendly and helpful.Breakfast was plentiful, hot and cold buffet, the restaurant, though expensive, was well worth the price, ask for an english menu.the hotel is a short walk from the centre of Nice and the old town, would certainingly stay here again, a pleasant relaxing break.

Top Local Tips for Nice

Old Nice Old Nice is a mixture of souvenir shops, boutiques, street artists, and great little restaurants. If you prefer shopping at Chanel, Place Massena and Rue Paradise is the place to shop.

take the coach or public transport Taxis to and from airport terribly expensive

Tourist traps Best to avoid 'tourist type meal deals' - these tend not to be of the same quality as individual courses. Also, try to avoid the more touristy restaurants in the Flower market and follow the nicoises to their local haunts.
