We are returning to the Picardy again next month and this will be our fourth stay. Assuming I am using Nice as a base for sightseeing, and not for a holiday, I wouldn't stay anywhere else but the Picardy. It can't be beaten on location (right next to the 'old town') and price. The hotel is more 'old' than 'old world' but it's 'quirky' with winding corridors, an amazing dining room which doubles as TV room/conference room, etc. It's a real old French traditional hotel. The rooms are basic but large, lofty, clean and comfortable with en suite facilities. The balconies run right around the exterior so one can nip from one room to another without having to negotiate the winding corridors. Breakfast is good and plentiful and the staff are so friendly. The proprietor, Piere, and his friend, George, are a real "double act" - fun to spend time with but also knowledgeable and helpful apropos sightseeing. For those with a car, there is an indoor car park opposite the hotel which doesn't cost the earth for a 24-hour stay. I give this hotel the top mark in its category because where value for money, good wholesome food, cleanliness, comfort and sheer fun and comfort are concerned, it's shear pleasure.

We had booked a hotel in Vielle Nice with Expedia and found we were bounced by the hotel in favour of a party of Germans. Stranded we went off in search of an alternative. Just around the corner was the Picardy. A real old fashioned hotel, but with lovely staff who were able to offer us a perfectly good double room with en suite for our 5 days. It was clean, basic but just where we wanted to be for an unbeleivably low price. Comfy bed, quiet and the best part was waking up to the smell of baking in the patisserie next door. We had fab breakfasts there. No shortage of eateries very close by.
