Top Local Tips for Morzine
Morzine Low altitude so potential for having to travel to ski. Friendly and very attractive place and unbeatable for mixed groups. Restaurants are many and very high quality. Child friendly on slopes, in resort and restaraunts. Close to Geneve airport. Advanced skiers will struggle and the Portes du Soleil link is a bit remote but Avoriaz nearby. Very popular with a certain type of Brit, many of whom own properties there so be prepared for some aspiring Hoohray Henry types in the bars. If you are used to Austrian ski hols and like apres-ski starting in the morning in the slopeside huts and continuing to dancing on the tables at 4pm, you will be disappointed.

Our room was very spacious and clean and had great views. We had a family room and I highly recommend this option. It comes with a kitchenette and a bunk bed with a curtain that separates the 2 rooms. The decor is very cute with matching curtains, bedspread and pictures and all with the lovely wooden theme - exactly as you see on their website.
Morzine itself it great - lots to do and see and so many wonderful restaurants and coffee shops and a large well priced supermarked - Champion.. Unfortunately when we were there for the week of 7th January there was very little snow at Morzine but lots of snow up at Avoriaz - which is just a bus ride away further up the mountain. Morzine has free busese running up to the cable car at Le Pleney which goes up to Avoriaz every 10 minutes. La Bergerie is very well placed for catching the buses to Avoriaz as it is just across the road from the tourist information centre and the main bus stop. If however like us you arrive on a bus from Geneva that only stops at La gare routiere - probably best to catch a taxi to La Bergerie if you have lots of bags like we did - otherwise it is about a 10 minute walk.
Caroline - the owner of La Bergerie is very welcoming & helpful and full of information. On the first night of our arrival they organise a free welcome drink in the sumptuos & cosy bar with nibbles with other new guests which was a really nice touch. Caroline gave us useful information about where to ski and hire our skigear from a shop that provides hotel guests with 20% discount. She also went out of her way to help us get to the gare routiere on out last day when it was hard to get a taxi - she got her husband to come and pick us up very early and drop us in his car to the station and wouldn't take any payment for this. In addition they have paid internet access which was very helpful & as we were getting regular calls from Australia so Caroline kindly organised a special direct line to our room.
The other great thing about La Bergerie - is that they have an outdoor heated pool - 26 degrees which was very refreshing and novel after a day on the slopes and something my 8 year old daughter just loved! For those who like pampering they also have a spa down at the basement level - which looked great I just ran out of time before I could try it out.
So I highly recommend La Bergerie - it is a 3 star hotel as are most other hotels in Morzine, but provides really good value for money with their week deal in a family room ( the single room was nowhere near as nice or spacious - well worth the expense of the family room ) - has great facilities, is well located but quiet, staff and owners are lovely and welcoming and our room was very clean with lovely fluffy bath towels and a beautiful view with a good sized balcony. So whatever you do - do stay here!
