| Adorable place du palais |
After a rather exhausting night at the noisy "Hotel de France" (Which I do NOT reccomand) we found 'Hotel du Palais' by coincidence while sightseeing on 'le petit train'. This is an embarrasing (because of the fact that you are on a tiny train and everyone is looking at you and laughing as you drive by) but smart way to get to know the city of Montpellier. 'Hotel du Palais' is situated in a beautiful quiet street surrounded by cosy cafés and nice little shops. The Hotel does not have many rooms, but they are all clean, and decorated in a way that creates a warm, homey feeling. The breakfast is very delicate, and the basic one includes fresh baguettes, pastry, fruit, fresh orange juice, assorted confiture and a choice of coffee, tea or hot chocolate. A great way to start the day! The staff are polite and service-minded. The Hotel has two permanent guests; a little dog and a cat, and this increases the feeling of having a home away from home. |

| Charming, Well Located Hotel |
I lived in Montpellier in the early 80's and have gone back several times to stay. On my last trip, I discovered l'Hotel du Palais, much by accident. It is a charming hotel, very well located in the center of town, but away from the noise of Place de la Comedie and Les Trois Graces. The accomodations are fine, nothing fancy. Try to get a room that overlooks the cafe across the street, that's the best side. Also, if you have a car, they have validated parking, but it is a good 5 minute walk away near Les Jardins des Plantes. The breakfast was wonderful...cafe, croissant, confiture, etc. And the place has character...I'm not sure that he's still alive, but the owner used to let this little aggressive Dauchson dog wander about terrorizing everyone...it was hysterical. |
