Top Local Tips for Millau

Bareges Stayed at Les Cailloux (www.mountainbug.com) for the last weekend in January this year, arriving the day after a LONG overdue snowfall. Bareges is a quaint village which is relatively undeveloped. The accomadation is excellent, food brilliant ! The skiing is somewhat limited if you are used to the Alps, but there's plenty there for a short week for experienced skiers or a full week for beginners of early intermediates. There's lots of info, links (also to webcams etc)on the mountainbug website. A day trip to Lourdes is worth thinking about (it's a half hour drive from Bareges). Note that you do not necessarily need a car - Rob will collect you from the airport if you stay with them. There are ski buses every 15 minutes from 50m from the front door of the chalet for the 5 minute drive to the lists.

The Pyrenees Ok, so when I went I stayed with friends in France - because I was out visiting a boyfriend at the time soooo I got a few perks of doing as the locals do rather than just being a tourist. Annnd all I can say is you must walk around these mountains...they're gorgeous! I went August 06 - Sept 06 and I'll never forget it. Myself and my now ex, stayed in a family friends stone hut over night, which was amazing, because after the ski-lifts all closed we were up there...presumably alone. And watching the sun set and the clouds come up out of the valley only to disappear again then see all the stars so clearly was just amazing - I made sure I wished on every single shooting star I saw heehee. The best tip I can give though is when you get off the ski lift make sure you're bag isn't caught, because when you have to chase your bag around before it heads off back down the mountain and you pull it so the whole run of lifts end up stopping - it's kinda embarressing haha :)
