Top Local Tips for Marseille

Linger longer Have a hot chocolate and croissant on the waterfront, eat bouillibaisse in MiriMar ang go for a Hamman

TGV and Rental car We took the TGV into Marseille, then took the Metro to the Hotel Alize, Metro back to train station, Then rented a car to visit the rest of Provence. This combination worked out perfectly. Metro goes into and out of the train station and stops one block from the Hotel. Rental car pickup at train station puts you just blocks from the main highway out of town so you don't have much city driving. Only one stop light and no roundabouts.

Best views Visit the Notre Dame de la Garde - much better than expected (get the bus, no. 40 if I remember correctly from the vieux port).Also a walk to Le Pharo (the park area on the south side of the port entrance) is a must, especially if it's a nice sunset.
