Avoid the place!

Unfortunately, the chance of staying at this hotel after confirmed reservation remains a lottery, particularly around Christmas. We were booked for the weekend at Carlton and were told late in the day it was overbooked. The alternative offered, Novotel, some 50km outside Lille, was just not acceptable. Outside the historic centre of Lille the outlying areas are not particularly alluring and one is really at the mercy of taxis. Fortunately, as we booked via travel agent, we were able to reclaim our transport costs. Lesson in here is not to book with this hotel directly, if you ever have to. The hotel management at this hotel is inefficient enough not to have overflow agreements with alternative hotels in the city, as is common for similar outlets elsewhere. Also, the manager was only too eager to abdicate his responsibilities to the reception staff. Furthermore it appears that the non-French speakers are at an additional disadvantage.

Hotel in centre of town amidst all shopping. Facilities good but no restuarant in the evening. Valet parking was excellent.
