Basil Fawlty is alive and well - a wholehearted endorsment

We could not have descibed it better ourselves. We have had identical experience to Mr Sullivan. In twelve brief months La Chastillon had lost the shabby charm of a British Seaside resort B&B (but with the unfailing helpfulness of Mr Tong the Chinese concierge) and gained through the acquisition of the rudest hotel Manager we've ever met, a truly unpleasant atmosphere.Sadly we dislike him so much that when we stay elsewhere this winter we will not even bother go a'baiting although Mr Sullivan has our best wishes with him!!

We discovered Basil Fawlty alive and well running the Chastillon hotel in Isola2000 where he freely unleashes his own brand of customer service on hapless skiers.

Joking aside my family and I have stayed at the Chastillon numerous times over the years. This 3 star hotel is comfortable but basic. However you don't go to Isola2000 for comfort nor the beauty of the resort. If you want excellent skiing for beginners within an easy driving distance of Nice then it is ideal.

The Chastillon is superbly located at the lower end of the Isola2000 main building complex where you can walk out of the door directly onto the easy green beginner's slope. The small bar & restaurant are on the round floor looking out onto the slopes. The decor and furnishings are tired and in need of attention.

Over the years we have booked low cost flights from the UK to Nice, hired cars and driven the 90 mins up to Isola200 to stay at the Chastillon for a couple of nights. In recent times the hotel has switched to only allow bookings for 7 nights, Saturday to Saturday which stops this sort of short break apart from the low season i.e. outside school holidays.

The purpose of this review was to advertise the current manager of the Chastillon. He is quit the most rude and obnoxious hotel manager I've ever met. He will walk away whilst you are talking to him, pull faces at you, is an expert at the wonderful French shrug which so infuriates the British and his replies to customer enquires are curt and often down right rude.

Until the hotel owners see fit to move him on we shall be making use of the other two hotels in Isola2000. We shall not waste our money on his rooms again, though we may venture back for an evening meal in the restaurant coupled with a little hotel manager baiting for entertainment.
