Great town centre hotel

We spent 4 nights in a suite at the Continental. We were not sure what to expect and had only seen it from the exterior on a previous visit. We had a lovely surprise; the public areas were well kept and fresh; the suite was the same; it was so quiet, we slept 10 hours a night! The breakfast was good value for money, as was the accommodation. Cannot fault it.

Top Local Tips for Evian Les Bains

Evian in autumn Being late October, virtually all attractions were closed but a few days out were possible. We went to Yvoire (medieval village) by bus, changing at Thonon. Also we did a round trip taking the bus to St Gingolph, boat to Vevey, boat to Lausanne, and finally boat back to Evian. In summer I expect more transport options would be available. The local council has a good transport website at http://infotransports.cg74.fr/ and boat details can be found at http://www.cgn.ch/eng. The only let-down about Evian is the train from Geneva. Eaux-Vives station is a disgrace – clearly SNCF are not interested in a station which isn't in their country, and the Swiss authorities don't want to spend money on a station whose trains only serve France! There IS a ticket office but it is well disguised. We were distracted by the unhelpful man in the bureau de change – ignore him and go through a door at the back of the booking hall. We returned to Geneva from Evian by bus, which was more user friendly. But Evian is a lovely place – lots of floral displays on roundabouts and verges, even in October, and it feels completely safe to walk around at night. And it is a good centre for exploring the surrounding area.
