Top Local Tips for Colmar

Wine Tours Don't book one of the "short" wine tours. Ours was conducted in a dirty van with dirty windows. The longer tours are in tour buses with better conditions. The van would have been ok if it had been clean. The person who drove us was a nice fellow and showed us to an excellent winery and two lovely villages, but the experience was not worth 50 Euros.

Two restaurant recommendations A guidebook recommended the restaurant Auberge de L'Ill as the greatest restaurant in Eastern France and it did not disappoint. It is expensive and located in Illhaeusern, a few miles outside Colmar, but it is worth the trip! The best restaurant we found in Colmar was La Maison des Tetes, near the Unterlinden Museum.

Caveau Robert-Karcher Winery This is a great wine shop in Colmar's old town. The saleswoman was very pleasant and helpful in recommending wines and letting us taste them. Unfortunately, we could only take two bottles home with us. They do not ship to the U.S. My understanding is that no wine shop in Colmar does. But we certainly enjoyed our two bottles and our wine tasting experience.
