Will return again one day
from jj_Milton-KeynesI will agree that the rooms are a little tired, nothing actually wrong with them, just not up to the standard of a London 4 star Marriott hotel. Our room had nothing wrong with it major, the old cracked tile on the bathroom floor, some sealant missing around the bath, and the taps would have benefited from a de-scale of lime-scale. We had a room with a balcony on the 5 floor at the front of the hotel, which benefited a harbour and sea view.
The hotel reception and staff were more than helpful, offering the free shuttle bus into town as many times as we want (although make you do have to book it). This hotel has a main restaurant/Breakfast area, which over looks the harbour of Cap, d’Ail, which is very peaceful. And a separate bar, which you can also order bar snacks/afternoon food, again overlooking the harbour.
The area this hotel resides in, is very quiet with hardly any noise at all (except on football match days – Saturday normally) – but this was all quiet by 9:30pm.
The hotel is about a 5 minute (taxi ride) away from the main Monaco harbour, and Casino Square. A taxi would cost about €12 (Euro – from the Casino back to the Hotel). We came into Nice airport and a taxi to the hotel cost €85 (Euro) – which took a good 30-35 mins.
Although as a treat on our return we took the Air-Taxi (helicopter) which cost €65 (euro – each person) – and only takes 7 mins. The heliport really is just a 2 minute walk away – along the side of the harbour, up about 30 steps, and you’re there. It’s that close it’s not even worth getting a taxi, we just walked it with our cases – whilst perusing the boats. If returning to Monaco, I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Lovely stay
from nannWe had a beautiful room with a balcony over looking a harbour. the downside was that there was no air conditioning, and the room got very hot. they explained to us that the a/c was seasonal and so we had to endure the heat throughout our five day stay.
the food in the hotel was very nice though there was no food available after 11pm and the bar closes at 12:30am sharp, there is no residents bar and limited mini bar, mainly soft drinks with a tin of beer.
overall it was a good stay.
A Very Enjoyable Stay

from gp41Loved this hotel!!!
from OCSkiBumThe place was fabulous! We had a large room, king size bed with balcony overlooking the marina, yachts and the Mediterranian. What's not to like?
My wife and I stayed here for 8 days. and the hotel staff MADE our stay. Very helpful, very courteous, just wonderful. The restaurant was overpriced for the quality, but who goes anywhere to eat in the hotel??
If you are staying more than a couple of days on the Riviera, you will need a car, so rent one or you won't see much more than Monaco. The hotel staff can give you great directions (ask for Simon). And be prepared to drive in traffic with curving roads, but nothing worse than New York City or LA freeways!
And there is lots more to see! Eze, Saint Paul de Vence, Cannes, Italy, etc. If you are there for a few days, just walk around and enjoy the open air markets in Monaco, the shopping in Monaco and Monte Carlo, etc.
When we did go to Monte Carlo, we either drove, took the hotel shuttle (very convenient) or walked to the restaurants that are 5 minutes away overlooking a nother marina.
I can't say enough good things about this hotel, and I have stayed in many, many hotels in the U.S. and Europe.
Really enjoyed this hotel
from ViolatorThe breakfast was buffet style and there was plenty of choice and plenty of it. We had one meal here which was a BBQ buffet and again it was superb.
The bar was full of friendly people and the staff were always about to serve you. Happy hour is between 5.30 and 7.30 and a beer will cost you 3 Euros for a pint which is less than my local! There are two buses that run from just outside the hotel that will visit all the main bits and you can buy a 4 trip ticket for about 4 Euros. The beach nearby isn't great at the hotel end, but if you walk along further it gets less rocky and the water is a lot better.
Would definately stay here again.
Not usual Marriott standard
from encalThe front desk staff and courtesy bus drivers were brilliant.
t eat there!
from film54The hotel has a small pool and there were not enough chairs for guests on the weekend. The beach is very close however. Places of interest in Monaco were walking distance but the hotel shuttle could take you there everr half hour which was very helpful.
The sunday brunch buffet was a total rip off (even for hotel food). We paid 39 euro each, only to have our pigeons peck at our food while we went to get drinks. The pigeons then moved over to the meat cutting station. When a customer confronted the chef about it, he just laughed. Truly a third world dining experience.
Hotel 4 stars, dining 1 star.
Decent hotel, a little out on a limb
from GezzaLondon_UKThe staff were on the whole impressively friendly and helpful (although I found their insistence on speaking English a bit tiresome). The service in the restaurant on my first visit was excellent, attentive and prompt (both for dinner and breakfast), but the next time service was painfully slow (in fact non-existent for breakfast), for no reason that I could see (they were certainly not rushed off their feet). I thorougly enjoyed the food in the brasserie and also the buffet breakfast, but less so the room service (a very limited and unimaginative selection, and restrictive times, which seemed to be for the convenience of the hotel rather than the guests).
I have stayed there 3 times now. Each time the room has been spacious, with a balcony overlooking the marina. However, I find the dark heavy furniture, patterned curtains etc. a bit old-fashioned and out of keeping with the Meditteranean surroundings. The bathrooms were definitely on the tired side too (cracked and yellowing sinks, a general air of neglect) - a refit is long overdue.
I would recommend this hotel on the condition that you get a good deal on the room rate. I also think that it caters better for business travel than for leisure - I'd hesitate to recommend it to anyone who's planning a special trip, as the location and lack of character may prove disappointing to some.
Living the high life!
from dreamyTop Local Tips for Cap D Ail
Bus system The public bus system in Monaco is very easy to use and covers the entire country. It is especially nice to use the blue or red line to get to Monaco Ville rather than walking up the steep ramp. Additionally, the Ligne d'Azur bus #100 runs through Monaco and Cap d'Ail. This bus will take you all the way to Nice via Beaulieu-sur-Mer and Villefranche. Its even cheaper than the Monaco bus. A ride costs 1.30 euro making it a transportation bargain.
Beef Bar Fabulous place to eat in Fontveille, Monaco. Lovely atmosphere, the best steak I have ever had and really friendly staff. Average price for bottle of wine, 2 steaks and 2 desserts - 130Euros
Ideal location - for Anniversary or celebration. Use public transport to get there, then WALK. Getting around on foot was extremely straight foward. The town planners have it geared up for the walking visitor with safe walkways.
