Top Local Tips for Bordeaux

Trams etc Go to the main tram station which is at the end of the rue de Conde and buy an all day tram combined with bus ticket, or a 3day or 4 day etc, whatever you need,it is a great and inexpensive way to travel around, taking in the railway station if you arrive by rail. If you arrive by air take the Jet bus.

Beware the traffic OK, it's not like Rome or London or many other truly congested cites, but Bordeaux can be a nightmare to negotiate by car during peak season or peak events like Vinexpo. Wherever possible, use the tramway or train. Access to/from and parking around the lakeside exhibition centre is poor. Even the Rocade, which allows traffic to be routed around Bordeaux, can be a testing experience, and should be avoided during peak hours wherever possiible.

Trams Get the tram anywhere. Very easy to use. Just get as many tickets at one time for your journeys. Tickets are available from a machine at a tram stop. Tickets are valid for one hour once you get on the trams and click it in the little machine on board. (You will see everybody else doing this.) So you will need a ticket for your outward journey and another for your return if that is outside one hour. There is more than one line but they are coloured and easily recognised. A voice calls out the stops as you go.
