Top Local Tips for Beaune

Buying wine There a supermarket (called Casino) up the road from the Hotel. Wine is cheaper there than the various shops/caves that offer tastings and there's a lot of the local stuff.

Rent a bike for a trip of the vineyards We are not cyclists but we easily did a 10 kilometer tour of 5 small towns and 3 vineyards. The views were amazing and the wine wonderful. The owner of the shop armed us with a map and directions and a list of vineyards with free tastings and off we went. The next day we were sore but it was worth it. I wouldn't recommend shipping wine to the US (way too espensive). But buying a few bottles for later in the trip is an excellent idea!

Wine Tasting I highly recommend a tour of the enourmous cellars of Patriarch and Fils (located within Beaune). The wine itself is ok, but the size of the cellars is staggering. I also recommend Chateau Meursault for its elegant setting and excellent wines (a short drive from Beaune). If you are a serious wine enthusiast, you should probably book private tours with some of the smaller distributors a few weeks in advance.
