Top Local Tips for Beaune

wine tasting and bringing wine back to the US We feel bad when we attend a free wine tasting but don't buy wine. We attended about 4 or 5 wine tastings in the area. None of the wine vineyards were able to ship wines back to the US and since the London attempted attack, you can’t carry bottles on-board. We bought 2-3 bottles from each tasting and bubble wrapped them in our luggage. Some of the bottles came in boxes so we bubble wrapped the inside and the outside of the box. We also placed a plastic bag around each container in case the bottle broke. The airlines also placed a fragile sticker on our suitcases to help with the handling. We are glad to say that all seven of the bottles (an assortment of wine and brandies) made it home on US Air. We also brought two of the bottles to dinner with us at two different restaurants that allowed guests to bring their own wine bottle. When we got to the duty free shopping we also bought two expensive bottles of wine since we were allowed to carry these on-board with us. We didn’t know that we would have to check these in when we got to Philadelphia before connecting to our second flight. We only had a flimsy nylon bag that we had carried the wine in from France to the US. The US Air attendant found old newspaper to help us wrap the bottles and we all said a prayer and checked them in. Amazingly, they are now stored in our wine fridge.

Restaurant recommendation Eat at the L'Auberge Bourguignonne for beautiful traditional French cuisine. Go for the set menus for the best value for money.

Rent a car and see all of Burgundy Beaune is a wonderful city but can be seen in a day or so. I definitely recommend renting a car so you can see the beautiful countryside, medival towns, and go wine tasting on your own schedule.
