great Stay

We stayed at the hotel for one night. V. Comfortable and clean. Great location, within walking distance to the mayor attractions. We had a very good dinner at the Bistro de Paris across the plaza from the hotel.

Lovely hotel - excellent location

from wwr
We loved Normandy, Bayeux and the Hotel d"Argouges. The town has masses of very decent restaurants and bars. We especially liked Le Petit Normand near the cathedral and Le Bistot de Paris just a few steps from the hotel. Food at the Lion D'Or was Michelin star standard and twice the price of the other places we ate at. The Hotel d'Argouges is very central, superbly quiet even on market day (Saturday, and well worth an hour or two), great value and Cindy, who checks people in and out, could not have been more helpful.

Like most hotels of this sort the house, which dates from the 18th century, has been partly compromised to create extra bedrooms/bathrooms. But the room we had (5) was spacious enough, recently decorated and has a brand new white bathroom. We could see that the process of keeping the essence of the house in tact while providing the comforts of a good hotel was important to the owners and, as ever, attention to detail makes all the difference. Masses of hot water, a lovely courtyard garden, a little white &ginger cat that keeps an eye on the comings and goings and mini bars at refreshingly sensible prices. We'll go back one day for sure.

Lovely place

from Chezlouise
We were in Bayeux in the lowest of low seasons, just before Christmas - almost everything, restaurants and hotels alike, are closed at least until mid-January for an annual vacation, if not until March, for the entire winter season.

We ended up at this hotel by chance and it was just lovely! Our room was huge (by French standards) with a double and a twin bed, a huge bath (no standing shower, but at that point we were grateful for a room) and a huge separate dressing room and several skylights. It was on the top floor overlooking the garden.

The garden is large and there is an old workbarn or stable for parking. The location is superb, in town but set back befind a wall, near where the Saturday market is located.

The resident "greeter" was a very friendly feline named KiKi (my mom thought Thomas was a better name!) who followed us upstairs, invited himself in and stayed the night! We loved it!

Charming, convenient hotel

Bayeux is a good location from which you can explore the WW2 sites. This hotel offers charming, clean and comfortable rooms, good beds, off street parking and good location within Bayeux. There are nice restaurants and laundromat within a block of the hotel and the tapistry museum is easy walking distance. The staff is extremely helpful and accomodating. The breakfast room is charming. The hotel building itself is lovely. We will certainly stay here on our next trip to Normandy.

Great choice for Bayeux

from bakerm16899us
Chose this hotel, based on reviews here at Tripadvisor. Stayed one night, during our trip of Europe. Arrive fairly late, but staff was very accomdating, and were able to recommend a restaurant which turned out to offer us our best meal of the entire trip. My wife has commented on going back to Bayeux for the wonderful food and overwhelming atmosphere of this town.

Good choice, excellent value

from SantaFeUser
Selected this hotel based on Trip Advisor reviews and were very pleased. Very nice ambiance for the hotel as a whole. The annex where we stayed was pleasant (though nothing special) and the room was good in size and amenities, along with being clean, quiet and comfortable and with a good bathroom. This is an excellent choice, based on the overall comfort combined with a good Continental breakfast, very nice and helpful staff, friendly dog and cat, easy walk to restaurants, shops and sights, good parking situation, low room price, and the feel of countryside tranquility (despite being in the City).

Great Small Hotel

from LuvToTravel
A very nice hotel set in wonderful surroundings in the center of Bayeux. It served as home base for us for three nights which included day visits to the WWII beaches and Le Mont Saint-Michel. Our room had a double bed as well as a single. It overlooked their beautiful gardens. The on-site parking was much appreciated and the staff was very helpful whether it was directions, recommendations for restaurants, etc. We highly recommend it.

Good Value, but nothing special

from A TripAdvisor Member
I guess I expected more after the great reviews and the info in Fodor's saying all of the rooms had been remodeled. My room was very dark and dated, with only a standup shower ( normally fine but I heard that all rooms had tubs as well). The water pressure was nonexistent. The outside of the hotel is lovely and the staff was very nice but I was disappointed in the room itself. Nothing special and would try something else next time.

B in France

from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I, my son and his wife, and another couple have stayed at this b & b twice over two years. We find it beautiful, and the owners can't do enough for you. We have never had any complaints about this place in two different stays over a two year period. We highly recommend a stay at this location. Should we ever get to go back to Bayeux we will stay here again.

An Excellent Short Break

from A TripAdvisor Member
A beautiful hotel set in nice surroundings in the centre of the town. We stayed three nights in one of the appartments - double bed comfortable , two singles and a cot for our baby. The staff were all helpful whether it was a high chair for breakfast or sterilising bottles. Off road parking is useful.
The hotel is situated a ten minute walk by pushchair from the tapestry and the cathederal.

We tried a few bars and the best was La fingaral on the main street - the frogs legs are superb.

We will definitely go back.

Top Local Tips for Bayeux

Rental cars in Bayeux There is a Hertz rental agency a 15 minute walk from the center of town.

Eat at Eat at La Petite Bistrot near the cathedral in town. Wow. Just a couple of tables, and our best meal in France in March / April 2007.

Bordeaux When you exit onto the street from the hotel, turn right and walk to the vegetable market about three doors down. There, they have some very tasty Bordeaux for about five Euros. We arrived on Wednesday, Market Day. There were fabulous cheeses for very little money.
