Excellent Service

from A TripAdvisor Member
We recently returned from Bayeux, France in Sept./05, from a trip to view the D-Day sights. I was not aware of the hotels in the area, so i used the internet to provide me with info on the Bayeux, hotels. The Churchill hotel was our choice to stay and we were not disappointed.
Everyone there was always willing to help in any way they could. The hotel is in the middle of downtown with easy access to all the services.
I would highly recommend the Churchill Hotel for a great place to stay.
I can't say enough good things about our stay.
I will be back.

Friendly hotel near D-day beaches

from CeciliaMarieW.
Wonderful hotel within walking distance of the famous Bayeux tapestry and within easy driving distance of all the D-day beaches. We had a lovely large room on the front side with a huge bathroom/WC. Breakfast was 6E extra with croissants, yogurt, juice, coffee/tea, fruit. There is a grocery store next-door if you want to spend a little less for breakfast. Restaurants are all along the street on either side of the hotel. There is no elevator but if you don't mind climbing stairs and dragging your luggage, you'll be okay. The desk clerk was especially helpful in arranging a rental car for us and he was fluent in English. I forgot to mention that the walls of the hotel are lined with old b/w photos of WWII. The French in Normandy are still very grateful to the Brits and Americans for liberating them in 1944, and we found them all to be very hospitable and gracious.

s Churchill is great

Mr. and Mrs. Hébert who run the Churchill Hotel in Bayeux are so welcoming and their presence makes a big difference. They are extremely helpful with tourist information and recommended a great restaurant (just 200 metres away, so convenient too !) as well as the itinerary for a visit to Mont Saint Michel. It is the second time I have stayed at this hotel in the centre of Bayeux, near the Tapestry and the Cathedral. That already says a lot !
Since my last visit they have added a boutique/art gallery in the hotel, where you can find the most delicious and prettily packaged French delicacies. The art work is obviously for sale, that's something nice to look at too ! The room I stayed in was big, comfortable, cosy and reasonably priced. Good shower after the drive from Paris ! The car park is a boon.
I thoroughly recommend the Churchill Hotel in Bayeux and hope to return there soon !

Good value

Stayed at the Hotel Churchill in Bayeux for six nights while visiting the Normandy battlefield sites. The owner and staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. The location is excellent for meeting tour buses, finding good restaurants and walking the city. It's a three star, with all that you would expect - clean, modern and roomy. Excellent rate too.

Nice Hotel for D-Day Beaches

from A TripAdvisor Member
Very much enjoyed our 2 day stay in Bayeux while touring the D-Day Beaches. Great location--right on the main street with many shops and restaurants right outside the front entrance. Bayeux is a perfect place to stay in Normandy if you are planning to see the World War 2 sites and the Churchill is a very nice and clean hotel to make your trip unforgettable. I would recommend it to anyone.

Loved it!

This hotel is a must if you plan on staying in Bayeux. Great location for sightseeing - the tapestry and cathedal are a stone's throw away. The staff are extremely friendly, courteous and helpful. Wonderful rooms with updated bathrooms make it quite comfortable. I can't say enough about it. Customer service at its best.

Very Friendly - Great Location

from rhut01
We rented two rooms in August for three nights. Our room's bathroom was completely redone. very nice, my sons room bathroom was just ok. We really enjoyed staying here as the location is perfect. In the old town center and a short walk to most sightseeing. Parking is free in public lot out front. Breakfast was good, although choice small, but ok and a nice setting. Our last day we had to leave by 6:30am and they had breakfast ready for us as we had checked out the night before.

A delightful, centrally located hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We thoroughly enjoyed the Hotel Churchill and the Bayeux area. The hotel is located on the central pedestrian street of this medieval town. Free parking is located behind the hotel in a city lot.

What made the Churchill special was the warmth of its owners and staff. One feels welcomed from the moment of entry. We were always able to get help and advice in English. Best of all we were able to access our Internet mail via a computer available for a slight fee. We purchased wine in the hotel's gourmet shop, and the staff chilled it and provided glasses upon our return from sightseeing.

While there is no lift in the Churchill, we were helped with our bags to a comfortably furnished, well appointed room. The breakfast room is bright and cheerful looking out on a pedestrian alleyway where one watches early morning shoppers fetching their breakfast baguettes. The nearby main street has numerous bistros and restaurants for lunch and dinner.

The Battlebus full day tour of Normandy was excellent and left from the square immediately behind the hotel.

We loved the Churchill and Bayeux and highly recommend it as a stopping point for those touring Normandy and its landing beaches.

History Buffs Heaven - Nice hotel

from Grouts
Stayed in Bayeux as part of a tour of Normany with my girlfriend. The tTapestry is a very special sight and the cathedral is impressive. If you like you history, Bayeaux is an absolute must. The town is also very well located for touring the D-Day beaches and has a D-Day museum in town.

The Hotel Churchill is wonderfully located on the main street in Bayeaux and is two minutes walk to the tapestry and the cathedral. The hotel is clean and tidy with high ceilinged rooms with some character. The practise of hanging your key where it is available to everybody when you are out seems a little strange but I'm sure they know their business. (We just took ours out with us!)

Try the restaurants on the Rue de Cuisiniers (behind the cathedral). "The Pommerie" was an excellent meal in a nice dining room at reasonable prices.

Wonderful!!

from TravelerBee
The Hotel Churchill was a wonderful hotel. We were able to get a room around 6pm on our arrival in Bayeux. Our room was on the second floor and had just been redone. Our windows looked over one of the main streets in Bayeux.

The breakfast was very good and the staff most helpful.

I would definitely stay there again.

We paid 115 euros a night for two people.

I would highly recommend taking one of the Battle Bus tours. We took an all day tour of the DDay beaches, St. Mere Eglise and the US Cemetary. We booked the tour through the visitor center but you can call when you get there or book on their website ---------. The bus picks you up right behind the hotel.

Top Local Tips for Bayeux

Expenses Rental cars are incredibly expensive. May be best to negotiate price from home.

The Best WWII tour and Restaurant Battlebus was the WWII tour we took...it was one of the best things I've ever done in my life...Julian our guide was amazing. La Rapiere could be the best dining experience I have ever had. This restaurant was so fabulous we went there twice. Its owned by a mother and daughter. The atmosphere is great, they treat you so wonderfully, and the food is just 'Wow". Such a special place.
