Top Local Tips for Arles

Chambre Vincent Van Gogh I've got a pretty good sense of humour... and I figure those who put this 'representation' together have too! Apart from being 'almost' on the site where Yellow House stood, this is about as real as it gets. The room is a mock up of one of Vincent's bedroom paintings, but it truly is pastiche at its best. Its a cartoon room created by set designers - and bless them, it shouldn't be seen with the naked eye. No official signs to it, no queues and the 2.50 euro entrance should have been my tip off - but for Vincent I ventured forth. Don't misunderstand me, in principal a replica is perfectly acceptable as the house was bombed in WWII - but I guess, given its actually in Arles, I was expecting a more sympathetic attempt to present the spirit of the man - even if they don't have his genuine belongings. This really is a Disneyland cartoon mockup.... avoid it... but not if you do fancy a bit of laugh!

Dont miss Arles and its Ancient History Museum Arles is one of those places that just makes you want to move there!! It is SO beautiful and comfortable feeling!! It should be on anyones itinerary who is traveling through France! Also, I just got back from Rome a few weeks ago, and I was amazed to find out that the Ancient History Museum in Arles that I went to about 7 months ago, was pretty much as impressive as both the National Museum of Rome and the Capitolini Museums the ones with the biggest collections of Roman artifacts in Rome. The Museum in Arles was big and we had the whole place to ourselves! They had a collection of well-preserved artifacts that was truly impressive! They didnt have as much as the Rome museums, but, the quality of what was there was truly worth it! Get as good of a taste of Rome without actually going to Italy!! Dont miss it!!

monument pass definitely worth it if you are visiting the major roman sites and museums.
