For Foodies L'Atelier which is recommended by Rick Steves offers an amazing gastronomic experience for about 70 euros pp. I thought the quality and imaginativeness of the food was worth at least 150 euros. It was our best meal on a trip with many great memorable meals.

Lots of walking in the old section of Arles Coming off the train in Arles be prepared to walk up and down steps. No elevator in the station. Also sidewalks disappear once you enter the old part of the city so be careful as you are sharing the road with French drivers and motorcycles. Many of the narrow cobblestone streets are only for pedestrians so once on them you don't need to be so alert. Still, wear comfortable walking shoes and enjoy stepping back into 'ancient' times. Also parking is at a premium so if you can avoid having a car in Arles you will save yourself money and hassles in trying to find an available parking space in the old city.

Getting around by public transport The public transport to other interesting places around Arles (eg. Nimes by train, St Remy de Provence and Glanum by bus) is pretty good but not as regular as I would have expected. Make sure you check the timetables in advance so you don't end up waiting around or missing the last bus!
