Should have guessed by the price.Needs total refurb as dark and dingy.Greeting on arrival was indifferent to put it mildly.
Room was tiny, cold and smelt musty, lukewarm water. At least we only had 1 night there.

We have stayed at the Hotel Grand Clement in the centre of the old town of Ardres several times a year for the past 4 years on our way to and from southern France. It is perhaps no longer 'Grand' - it is like stepping back in time. Things are a little worn - which for us adds to the charm and you are made very welcome. Don't compare this with a modern hotel - it is old fashioned and things are a bit basic but there is a decent grand dining room / restaurant and (unlike one of the other reviewers here) we have found the food and service very good. There is a decent wine list with some palatable wines at reasonable prices as well as the more expensive vintages. There is on site parking / garaging and the courtyard gates are closed at night. Prices are reasonable - if it were renovated it would no doubt be an expensive place to stay - we prefer it as it is - a bit of old France where the building and proprietor both have some character !

We stayed at this hotel during August french bank holiday. Every where else was booked up so we had no choice. It was great. We arrived quite late but they provived us with a great dinner. The host/owner/manager couldnt have been more helpful or friendly. The dining room has been a very glamorous place (a long time ago) and although it retains the charm it does need a bit of attention. But it kind of adds to its appeal. Our room was of adequate size, basic but clean and for 2 adults 1 child and 1 big dog we had enough space. Bathroom again basic but clean and a good size. The parking is superb, plenty of space and very secure. We had a roof box and trailer and parking was no problem. Rooms aer not 5 star, but your not paying 5 star prices. Food is great, staff very helful and friendly and we are booked to go back again in April.

Worse hotel I've ever stayed in

We arrived at this hotel as part of an organised P&O "gastronomic experience and wine lovers lunch". We walked into the reception area of the hotel which was very old-fashioned and run down and the decor and smell of damp and decay got worse the further into the hotel we went. The corridor to our room was dark and depressing. Our room was even worse. It was very cold, dreary, badly decorated and the carpet was heavily stained. The shower (which was cold on use) and toilet was basic and old fashioned. Nonetheless, the lunch was delicious and service excellent. We did actually enjoy our stay but if I had to stay there longer than one night, I would have kicked up a stink. It really needs total renovation and refurbishment. I wouldn't house my dog in it.

Didn't stay in the hotel, thank goodness but went there for a meal. Filet steak 'a point' was uncooked and 2 sirloins were tough and full of connective tissue. All 3 dishes were barely warm and served on stone cold plates. The wine was ok.

Very basic hotel, like going back in time. Staff had little English. Centrally located for town centre, which was small but lively. Don't expect any frills
