Leonardo's home Truly an amazing place to visit -- who knew Leonardo da Vinci lived the last few years of his life in Amboise as the guest of the French king? The house is interesting for giving you a look at how people lived, but the most interesting part is that there are many mockups of his inventions, built from his drawings.

Go Into Town for Your Meals A 5 minute walk to town offers an ample selection of dining establishments. Only Continental Breakfast is offered at the hotel and after 10 days in France, I had enough of croissants and bread and butter for breakfast. Try Le Bigot and have your breakfast outside and watch the locals and tourists go by. They offer great breakfast and lunch selection and the servers are very sweet and attentive. The pastries are to die for!!! We went there every morning before starting our tours of the chateaux. At all costs, do not go to the Italian pizza place (forgot the name) on the main street in Amboise. The food was terrible and the service even worse!

Chateau tours Do some research on which chateaus you really want to see. Chenonceau is unforgetable; Amboise, though close, was not as amazing as others in the area--worth the visit if you have the time; Chambord--wear warm clothes if you visit in an off season, it gets cold!; Cheverny is a not to miss--the biggest collection of french funiture from the area. Try not to visit more than 3-4 chateaus in one day--chateau overload, and you have to give yourself some time in each place.
