Having seen a rather unflattering review elsewhere after having booked at the Mercure, we were apprehensive - but this was unfounded! The Mercure is not in a particularly pretty part of Alencon - being near to commercial centres and so on. Nevertheless, it is very clean, with comfortable rooms and a super breakfast. Don't be put off by the surroundings - the nearby main road isn't so noisy as you might expect, and the rooms are quiet and restful. I'd recommend this hotel as a place to stop-over on a tour, while Alencon itself would repay a thorough exploration as it is so interesting and with plenty of old buildings to see.

L'Escargot Dore Excellent food and service. Set menues and a la carte. Coped admirably when faced with our large party of diners. All our courses were served hot and no-one was left waiting for their dish whilst the rest had theirs. The waiter was extremely polite and helpful and had a good sense of humour.
