Top Local Tips for Aix En Provence
Bus Services To The Mountain There is a poorly advertised mini bus service to the mountain. The tourist office will give this information but only if you specifically ask. No leaflets/timetables etc on general display.
All taxi drivers are not honest!! As there were six of us, we booked two taxis when we arrived at Marseille airport for an approx. 20min journey to Aix. One taxi charged us 45Euros, the other 55Euros for the same journey!! The same thing occurred on the way back and in fact the second taxi was 10 minutes late in arriving and again charged 10Euros more than the first one. Maybe because he had to drive faster??!! Also, I mentioned earlier about mosquitos in the Camargue area, we travelled in May when it wasnt so humid, so I hate to think what it would be like later in the summer when it gets hotter. I think the tour guide should have warned us beforehand to take plenty of insect repellent with us.
TGV not close to Old City The TGV is a great way to get to Aix, but be aware that the station is not connected to the main line and is located a 30 min drive from the old city
