Top Local Tips for Ounasvaara Rovaniemi
Reindeer Being the gateway to Lapland, we wanted to try and find some reindeer. Locals told us that they often come onto roadways to get away from the mosquitoes in the woods, so we went for a drive north of Rovaniemi to have a look. The main highway seemed just too busy for wildlife so we took off on a gravel sideroad. The road was fine and sure enough, after a few kms. we came across a group of 9 reindeer including some babies. All the reindeer in this area are domesticated but they are turned out to forage in the forests for the summer and rounded up in the fall. We really enjoyed seeing them.
Hotel Santa Claus If its snow your after Levi is the best probably going off friends reviews. We went to Rovaneimi becuase we thought with having spare time you might want to go to the shops to pass time but the shops are rubbish anyway. The Crazy Reindeer hotel is very poplar apparently.
Eating out There are loads of lovely restaurants within walking distance. Not expensive in terms of london prices. Meal for family of four £70.00 excl drinks
