37 beautifully decorated rooms. The main reason we all come to visit Tallinn, is due to see Historical tallinn. Staying in a hotel that has been renovated and dates back the 14th century. What a pleasure. Will no longer be a hidden secret.

If you get the chance stay here

It may be cold outside but inside this lovely hotel it is warm and friendly. The restaurant is excellent wether for breakfast or dinner. Bar staff lovely reception staff very helpful. If you want a few days away somewere different go to Tallinn and stay at this hotel. Yes you will see plenty of stag does but you don,t have to go in the bars they go in. We went to Merchant House after reding the reviews on Trip Advisor it was so goog will not book another hotel unless i check reviews first Thank you to all you who reviewed it.

It's a lovely hotel that's spolit by all the stag-weekend clowns that stay there. (I was on a stag weekend, too, and stayed there because I couldnt get into the Vanu Wiru where the rest of my group were staying - that's ideal for stag groups, by the way.) The MH Hotel is the sort of place that you'd take your girlfriend to and she couldn't fail to be impressed. I loved the hotel, but if I owned it, I'd make a point of no stag parties because it spoils it and takes it too down-market(as I say, I was on a stag weekend, so I'm not being up myself about stag weekends in Tallinn, just about where stag groups should stay.)

Dear Tripadvisor Swansea,

Thank you for you positive comments on the hotel. I agree with your comments 100%. The Merchants House Hotel is the perfect hotel in Tallinn for a romantic getaway or business trips to Tallinn. At the moment we have 2 honeymoon couples from the UK in the Merchants House Hotel. The Hotel does not target or look at the stag market weekend. We try to review all individual and group booking but sometimes booking slip though the system especially when it comes through internet bookings systems.

I hope you enjoyed your time in Tallinn, and please if you our coming back to Tallinn with your wife or girlfriend please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you again for your comments. Customer feedback is so valuable to help us achieve guests expectations.

Wonderful hotel and location

from John1972
I really loved staying at this hotel, it is smack bang in the centre of the old town (just off the main square).

The rooms are modern and spacious and the bathrooms have under-floor heating.

The breakfast room in the basement of the hotel is also lovely.

There is an Ice Bar at the hotel but did not have time to visit this when I was there.

Would recommend this hotel to anyone and will certainly be coming back soon.

A lovely visit

This is a delightful place to stay. Perfectly located, only a few minutes' walk from anywhere you will want to see in this lovely city. A beautifully renovated medieval building, super stylish bedroom and bathroom, a comfortable and friendly bar and a gorgeous restaurant that unfortunately, like the rest of Tallinn, has yet to register the need to have at least one vegetarian option on its menu. Pleasant and efficient young staff who, like the Estonians, are a bit reserved but delighted to help. Don't bother to look any further - you will love this hotel.

Perfect Choice

from tensorlegends
The hotel only looks tiny from the outside but the front of the hotel hides a reasonably large courtyard towards the rear surrounded by 3 or 4 stories of rooms.

I'm sure the hotel has been recently been renovated as everything seems very new and in awfully good condition. Furnishings are very well chosedn, with the whole hotel being very tastefully decorated.

The staff were as pleasant as could be, although we had no real need to deal with anyone but the waitresses as we had no problems or questions to pose.

Our room was not massive, but had character and was well fitted out.

Ne Tea and coffee making facilites just meant you had to force yourself to go over the street to The Beerhouse which served it's own excellent Pilnser Gold along with 2 other of it's own beers.

The restaurant at the hotel is excellent. We ate their our first night, not something we tend to do in hotels we stay at, but it was worth it. Everything was excellent and the price was superb for such a good meal. Breakfast was served in the same restaurant (which is in the cellar) so it does seem extremely plush for breakfast, but that is only a good thing.

The only downside was that the funky looking Ice Bar, which claims to be the coolest in Tallinn closed at eleven on the Sunday and Monday, so we had no chance to experience this.

Overall, I was extremely pleased that we chose this hotel, I don't think we could have made a better choice.

Perfect location - great value

from Gunnar12
Fantastic boutique hotel. A lot of imagination went into the rooms and the 20'' LCD televisions finish them off nicely. The location is perfect for exploring Tallinn's old town. If you're here on holiday, make sure you stay in the Old Town, the new part of Tallinn (where the Radisson SAS is for example) is a totally different atmosphere altogether.
The only downside to the Merchant's House is the noise. Slamming doors echo round the courtyard - which on the whole is ok but when people are ill mannered at 2am it can wake you more easily than other hotels. Also, ground floor rooms in winter are best avoided as staff shovel snow up outside your room as early as 7am at times.

For GBP55 B&B, and only 1 night of hassle from annoying guests, this hotel is well worth a stay!

s Historic Old City

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at the hotel January 23-25, 2006. I booked the room through select-a-room for $99 per night (including all taxes and breakfast for two). The hotel is in the Old City in Tallinn and very convenient for the restaurants, shops, and night spots in the historic Old City. I was very pleased with the hotel. The staff was excellent. The rooms were spacious and recently renovated and done in a variety of styles. Very large bathroom. Fully stocked minibar and bathrobes and slippers. Everything was clean. I had brought a bottle of wine and I asked about a bottle opener and three glasses and the woman at the front desk brought me everything I needed. She even asked whether I was having white or red so that she could bring the proper glasses. This attention to detail was evident throughout the stay. There was always a gentleman available at the front desk to assist with the bags. The breakfast was comprehensive and included a hot selection to complement the smoked salmon, Baltic herring, fruits and vegetables, cereals, cheeses, breads, yogurt, and other items. Hot coffee and tea and a variety of juices were offered. Breakfast was served in the cellar, which was very old and cozy and interesting. The hotel offered a 24-hour sauna that was brand new and very nice. A big room with a TV was adjacent to the large sauna and it offered an excellent place to spend some time with friends. There was a massage room and a one hour massage was around $40 and was excellent. The young woman who performed the massage was very skilled and professional and she did an excellent job. Free internet access in the lobby and it was available whenever I wanted to use it. I also stayed at Baron's Hotel in Tallinn and believe that Merchant's Hotel is superior. The Merchant's Hotel, with its great location, spacious rooms, interesting interiors, excellent breakfast, 24-hour sauna, and free internet access offers excellent value for money.

We stayed in the courtyard executive suite for 2 nights and it was absolutely amazing. The suite itself was gorgeous, the bed super-comfy and the sauna a surprisingly useful luxury! We booked the suite (E175/night) as alittle luxury in case Tallinn was simply too cold to go out in, and it was worth every penny. The bottle of red (decent, too) awaiting us was a nice touch. The shower was also fantastic. My boyfriend and I both enjoyed massage treatments with a very firm, very good therapist (try the Total Chi!) and prior to our visit, Jonathon had been very helpful, responding to my numerous emails promptly. All the staff spoke fluent english, and made all our reservations for us without trouble. My only slight would be that higher end cosmetics in the bathroom would be nice (I had taken my own Molton Brown), and a welcome guide explaining how to call reception etc, would have been useful. Otherwise, a lovely break in a gorgeous hotel in a very pretty city. One last thing - there is nothing wrong with the breakfasts, very tasty continental selection! Would definately return.

Great for city break

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Merchants House is great for a city break in Tallinn. Set right in the heart of the 'Old Town', it is in the best position of all hotels for your visit to Tallinn. It offers excellent comfort and value for money if you want a little luxury. The hotel decor is a blend of modern furnishings set around the existing 'old world' beams and stone. The staff all speak excellent English and are very friendly. A fantastic hotel, we had a great stay and a room upgrade!
