Great location, good ambience

I loved seeing the main square of Copenhagen from my window from a small but pleasant room. Noise from the square was a problem, however, so I moved to a back facing room and had a good night's rest on night two. Excellent breakfast buffet, helpful staff - I was very pleased with my choice.

I was joining a larger group in Copenhagen to journey to northern Denmark, where we had 4 days of business meetings then returned to Copenhagen. I spent the night before and the night after the event at the Square. I found it a very central hotel, quiet, well managed and good housekeeping. Have recommended it to others.

Nice hotel, good location and very clean modern rooms. I would use this hotel again for my next stay!

Historical Traveller Reviews of The Square Hotel

Very stylish

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at The Square in April 2004 and liked the stylish lobby and rooms. We already found a very good rate over some website and still got an upgrade to the highest floor (the 6th) not far from the breakfast room (nevertheless absolutely quite). We would definitively go there again. Best: the red Arne Jacobsen 'Ant' chairs in the lobby and the breakfast (very good bread & cheese).

Great for Allergy/Asthma sufferers

Some reviewers have noted that weekend disco noise can be a problem on the third floor.

When I commented to the reception staff about this, they replied that they rarely had any complaints, but the third floor has less sound muffling than others as it is a designated "allergy free" floor, so has no carpets or the like. This is the first hotel that I have ever stayed in that has offered such a service.

All the reviews are spot on

from JontySkipton
This hotel is excellent - very near to the station (walking distance) and very central. We had a side room with a balcony on the 6th floor. It was really large and clean - a pleasure to return to. The hotel is a converted office block. Pretty cool scandic design. The 6th floor breakfast room was lovely and so were the breakfasts (why they don't serve dinner is a mystery). Externally it doesn't look that good - 70's office block, but it is fine inside (it is nearly opposite the Palace Hotel which charges much more for maybe less). The bathroom doors are weird, but OK and something to remember (underfloor heating is good in the bathroom). Staff very helpful and I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. No noise, although we had an illuminated coca-cola sign outside our window (didn't know this at night when curtains closed). Mini bar is pricey - but so is Copenhagen!! It is surrounded by restaurants and fast food bars (McDonalds & Burger King etc.. are close by) and the main bus station is opposite. The Tivoli is 200 yards away! The hotel is probably 4 star rather than 3 star. If you choose this hotel you will not be disapointed. Enjoy yourself...

Stylish and convenient

from Lindsay1
We have just returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel it is in an excellent location a quick walk from the railway station, also very convenient for Tivoli and Stroget. The hotel has two entrances - one on the "Square" and the other in a side street. My husband, myself and my daughter had booked a superior triple but were given an upgrade to a Junior Suite. The room was very clean with a lovely bathroom which had a rather unusual glass door. Both were cleaned to a high standard each day. We arrived in Copenhagen at 10am and went to the hotel to see if we could leave our luggage but since our room was ready we were able to check in. As has already been said by others the breakfast was an amazing buffet but on our last day we were not at breakfast 'til after 9am and although there was still a good selection left all the criossants and the pastries were finished much to my husbands disgust!
Any requests to the staff were dealt with promptly.
We stayed on a Saturday night and were not aware of any noisy disco.

Best place to stay in Copenhagen

from msweet
We loved the Square. Our room overlooked the Town Square and it was so Copenhagen to watch the goings on there. Our first room had a window which wouldn't close so they immediately moved us to the room overlooking the Square but a smaller room. However it was a nicer view so we liked it. Excellent customer service.
The first room was on the 3rd floor and the disco noise was a muted noise but only on Saturday night. We were more bothered by the window since it prevented the AC from working well.
We loved the location and can't recommend it higher. Great breakfast with ham and cheese and oh so good danish and great coffee. (Better location than the Radisson- more charming.)

Very comfortable hotel in the City Centre

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel is situated right in the centre and Tivoli is only 2mins away. It was opened 1 year ago so everything is still very new and clean. Rooms are large and good sizes, my room had 2 beds and a space for a sofa and a table. The staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is a cold buffet but with a wide variety of tea, cereals, bread, cold meats, fruits and juices. I did look at several 3 and 4 star hotels in the City and this hotel was definitely the best. It doesn't feel like a 3-star hotel, worthy of 4-star status.

Fantasticstay at The Square!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
My partner and I had an excellent stay here - I can't really add anything new to the already glowing comments, but we managed to get a deal thru Expedia, and we paid half price for the rooms! We realised that we would be getting the worst of the choice of rooms, however, when we got there, we were struck by the beautiful Scandanavian design of the place. It's minimal, and not to everyone's taste, but it reflects Copenhagen's style perfectly. The breakfast was varied and of a high quality, the room did not have the best view (it was at the back of the hotel) but that REALLY did not matter when you are virtually on top of Radhusplasen and Tivoli Gardens, and walking distance of most of the best of the city! We WERE situated next to the lift on the 4th floor - as was another reviewer who complained - but my girlfriend (who is a light sleeper) could not hear a thing. DO NOT HESITATE TO BOOK THIS HOTEL!!! I have stayed in hundreds of mid-priced hotels, and this is top-three. I will be back!

4-stars at a 3-star price

from A TripAdvisor Member
Excellent hotel with an excellent location at a reasonable price! The hotel is listed as 3-star, though it is absolutely 4-star in quality -- the only factor holding back the extra star is the hotel's lack of a restaurant, which should not be a problem for most due to its very central location.Rooms are decorated to a high standard and the staff are friendly and helpful. Trendy hotel -- the check-in area doubles as a bar for guests to use while lounging in the lobby.Highly recommended.

What a great hotel!

from valleyankee
Wow! I am thrilled to see this hotel as #1 on the list. It deserves to be. This is what i call a 5 star hotel with a 3 star rating. This has to have been one of the nicest hotels I ever stayed in for the price.
The only thing that keeps it from getting more stas is a restaurant, but you don't need that anyway. The rooms are all fresh and modern with sparking baths and modern furnishings. The hotel is right in the heart of Copenhagen and near the entrance to Tivoli. The train station is also within walking distance which makes it very easy to get to the airport on the train! The best part is the extensive buffet breakfast that is included with the rates. Lots of meats, fish, cheese, breads, yogurts and sweets. Its all served in a bright modern dining room.
Don't pass up this great hotel!

The Square was fantastic

from NyLc
I booked 2 rooms at The Square on-line for a fantastic price. When we arrived, we found the hotel check-in/lobby/bar to be really wonderful and modern. The Square theme is pulled in everywhere possible! The rooms are typically European and small - but very well designed. One caveat - it is very easy to flood the bathroom when you shower! The breakfast buffets were terrific with a great variety including cereals, pastries, breads, cheeses and meats (and yes - herring). The location is very centrally located at the Town Square and the upper floors have a view of Tivoli. It is a short walk to the Stroget shopping streets.
We would definitely return!

Top Local Tips for Copenhagen

Vesuvio Restaurant - faultless Want somewhere child-friendly but not overrun with 'other people's kids' - go here! Food of a very good quality & super-friendly staff

Wagamama If you like Wagamama as much as we do you'll be thrilled to find one on the edge of Tivoli in Copenhagen, about 10 mins walk from The Square hotel. Wagamama delivers fresh, tasty Japanese noodle and rice dishes at very reasonable prices - a great value place to eat in an expensive city. Address: tietgensgade 20, 1704, københavn v. Tel: +45 33 75 06 58.

Be prepared Make sure you take some kind of a jacket as you may be glad of it (even in summer).
