Historical Traveller Reviews of Copenhagen Marriott Hotel

Reserve the Executive Floor

from kingsroadgal
This is not your average Marriott, and I would recommend a stay here. The room prices are fair, and the rooms are stylish, with immaculate and attractive bathrooms. You can also put a family of four in one of the rooms, which is rare in Europe, making a stay here fairly reasonably priced, although a tiny bit cramped. Definitely go for the Executive Floor. There is a lovely, large water-view lounge. The continental breakfast included in the Exec. Floor price is definitely worthwhile. Fresh bread, cheese, meats, and unlimited trips to the latte machine (which was tasty). At night, there are fairly heavy hors d'oeuvres and drinks - lots of Carlsberg beer. This could stand in for dinner on a night when you are not too hungry. The hotel does have some service issues (they did not have the room we reserved available), but they attempt to make good on their mistakes, unlike some places. I had my doubts about staying at a Marriott, but I would stay here again.

Marriott, upscale chain rather than real charm

from A TripAdvisor Member
Service was good but not superb. Rooms were well sized and decorated pleasantly, with the bed being the best feature. Bathrooms were nice but not special in any way and with a decided lack of the little luxuries that five star hotels usually put on. We had two rooms--one a jr. suite, one an executive room. The executive room was actually nicer but we found it amusing that the jr. suite bathroom contained more toiletries. Shampoo but no conditioner assigned to the executive room! Not a big deal but amusing. Everything had just an ordinary feel. I'd just expect a few more elegant touches at a five star hotel.
Pleasant stay but not a memorable hotel in any way from the decor to the "water view". It is "nice" but not breathtaking or gorgeous.
Food not great at all. Suggest not eating in the hotel. From overpriced mundane to burnt and inedible on one room service occasion.
Overall hotel experience is good, no problems but decidedly unremarkable. If you like your hotels to be an intergral part of the holiday experience--something memorable, the Marriott won't do it. It is decidely simply an upscale American chain with nothing remarkable about it. If you just want to make sure you have a nice place to stay with good service and no unpleasant surprises than the Marriott's a good choice.

Excellent position, Good rooms with views, Good rates, Good Service; Beer a bit pricey; but ain't it all in Denmark.

Class all first!

Stayed here post cruise and what a way to top it off. Big rooms and wonderful bedding which can sometimes be difficult to find in european hotels. Beautiful views and located close to everything. For fun nightlife and dancing we went to Rosie McGees, too fun!!! Staff superb, exceptional!

Substance: A perfect stay!

We stayed at the Copenhagen Marriott on business August 7-14 and couldn’t have asked for a more comfortable home base. From the efficient valets and the friendly front desk staff, to the array of on-site amenities and well-appointed, spacious guest room, I’d unhesitatingly recommend the Marriott to any American business or pleasure traveler who’s looking for all of the familiar comforts of home.

Our room on the 7th floor offered a very picturesque, sweeping view of the waterfront and Christianshavn across the way (we specifically asked for a water view at check-in and got lucky). Tastefully decorated in cheerful yellow tones, the room itself was very comfortably furnished and well-equipped for extended stays with a large entertainment/clothing armoire and separate closet space, a work desk with task lamp, and two small armchairs and occasional table – a fairly large space by European standards. The bathroom, as well, was larger than might be expected overseas, offering a deep bathtub (perfect for soaking at the end of a long day) and an adjustable-height shower head (nice for the vertically challenged!) that blasted out a nice, strong stream great for relieving neck and shoulder tension. With the exception of the occasionally musty-smelling shower curtain liner, housekeeping kept the room positively spotless each day.

You’ll have no excuse to walk away hungry from the breakfast buffet that’s served in the restaurant each morning. In addition to traditional Danish foods (including plenty of fish, cold meats, and cheeses), a variety of cereals, fruits, fresh breads, Danish, and yogurts are offered, in addition to a hot, “American-style” buffet of scrambled eggs, bacon, hashbrown potatoes, and some of the tastiest (but very sweet!) waffles and pancakes I’ve ever had. Roving wait staff keeps you supplied with hot beverages upon request.

A rally point for passengers of the many ships that depart Copenhagen for cruises of the Baltic, the lobby of the Marriott seems to bustle during daylight hours every day of the week. But it’s all incredibly organized – the staff seems to be a well-oiled machine. Plenty of comfortable spaces are available for guests to relax with coffee, drinks, or light fare, particularly enjoyable taken on the outdoor terrace overlooking the waterway.

If you want to stretch your legs, there’s plenty within easy walking distance of the Marriott, located in ‘The City’ district, to entertain and educate. Within 5-10 minutes, you’ll find Tivoli Gardens, a small-scale amusement park and Denmark’s most popular tourist attraction, the Radhus Town Hall Square (sort of a mini-Times Square), and Slotsholmen, the historical heart of Copenhagen. Most other sites of interest in the immediate metro area can be reached by taxi for 20 DKK or less.

Coming back to the Marriott at the end of a day of business or sightseeing always offered a sense of peace, the glow of the softly-lit lobby making us feel as if ‘someone had left the light on’ for us. And whether stopping off in the bar for a nightcap, grabbing refreshment out of the in-room mini-bar, or ordering up a snack from room service, it always felt good to be ‘home’.

I highly recommend the Copenhagen Marriott!

Excellent Hotel

from sisam
Stayed at the Marriott for two nights at the end of our Scandinavian trip. Asked for a high floor room with water view and got it. The room was very nice and spacy (compared to other hotels we stayed in over there) and the service excellent. And the breakfast in the morning was just great. Definitely worth the price and will not look further if we do need accomodation in Copenhagen again.

It does what it says

from aristoph
We stayed here Fri-Sun in an Executive Floor room. We had booked this because it was on the higher floors and we thought it would be a bigger room. In fact the rooms are no bigger than standard, which is a touch on the small side even by European standards.

The location is a bit out of town but more than compensated by having a direct boat link from outside the door. (Beware - this doesn't run on Sundays.) Otherwise it costs about DKK70 to get a cab anywhere you might want to go.

The staff were almost without exception friendly, helpful and attractive! But I don't think this is just a Marriott thing as we found the Danes to be pretty much the nicest people in Europe! Everywhere we went - boats; restaurants; shops; even at the airport - we were impressed by their smiling helpfulness.

A word of warning on the Executive Floor rooms. The price includes breakfast each day but they didn't tell us that this is only in the Executive Lounge, not in the main restaurant. When we checked-out they tried to charge us an extra DKK 580 for the two days. To be fair, however, they backed down as soon as we complained that no one had told us about this policy.

So to summarise I would recommend staying at the Marriott but probably wouldn't pay up again for the Executive Floor. For the extra DKK 400 a night you get free movies and free early evening drinks in the Lounge. But you don't get a bigger room and the breakfast in the Lounge can't be anywhere as near as good as in the restaurant. Book a standard room and ask for a high floor. And don't worry too much about which side you're on. We had a view over the water, which was very pleasant, but from the other side you have an equally nice aspect over the city (as long as you are above floor four or five that is).

Great Hotel, Excellent Service

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed here beginning of July. Had two rooms for my wife and I and my 3 children. This hotel was an oasis for us. After traveling some of the Danish country side and staying in some pretty dingy places, the Marriott was a real treat. Spotless, great service, very American. I would recommend this hotel very highly.

Fantastic Stay!!

from travelcrazy
My husband and I have stayed at the Copenhagen Marriott twice and loved it both times. The rooms are well appointed with plush towels, amenities galore, well stocked minibars, comfortable beds and ample air conditoning. I called down for a robe, and within 10 minutes I had both a robe and slippers delivered to my room. :) The location is great too. We walked to Tivoli Gardens, the Ströget, and Gammel Strand with no problems whatsoever.
Also, my husband and I decided to fly to Italy with just our backpacks for a few days, and they held our huge suitcases for us without an extra charge. And the breakfast buffet is wonderful!! So many selections, we could eat something different everyday of our 8 day stay.
We took advantage of every aspect of this hotel. We ate dinner (wonderful) booked sightseeing tours (wonderful), worked out at the gym (wonderful) and had a cocktail party in the bar area too! The employees here always went above and beyond what was expected. A++++

Complete luxury

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed over at the Marriott in Copenhagen last winter and all in all it was fantastic. I went with three friends and we had 2 twin rooms. Well I expected two single beds in a twin room but was totally shocked to find TWO DOUBLE beds in the room. The beds we absolutely comfy and warm and the pillows were large and soft. I found that the hotel was closeby to everything including the train station, pubs, the park and shopping areas. Even on a night out drinking if you do not want to walk the 10 minutes to the hotel you can grab a cab for next to nothing. Oh did I mention the view of the river!!! All I can say is go there and experience life as a Dane. Also as the other reviewers said the bathrooms are absolutely gorgeous. If you want a shower it will be invigorating and if you want a bath you will feel pampered. My only complaint was that on check out my friends in the second room went down to breakfast and asked if it was included in the room rate and was told yes by the waiter when it was not. So on check out we spoke to a really nice receptionist who was going to refund it for us but then her supervisor told us that we should have known that it was not included and refused to refund it. We stayed there for a few minutes indicating that her staff gave us wrong info but she did not want to let go. So as we were already running late for our train to Aarhus we agreed to only pay for one breakfast and not two. I think for such a large chain that particular employee certainly lacked customer service skills. However I have stayed at Marriotts worldwide and I have to admit that this hotel was the best ever. It even beats the Marriotts in the States.

Top Local Tips for Copenhagen

Excursion to Malmoe, Sweden The trip by bus costs 120 DKK (16€) and lasts 30 minutes. It is very impressive, because you drive first through a long tunnel under the sea level, then you exit to an island which was built (!) in the middle of the sea and then you continue on a long bridge over the Baltic sea for 10(?) kilometres to reach the swedish coast. The view is amazing.

Malmö, great day trip! Take the train from Copenhagen to Malmö (Sweden). Lovely and relaxed city that's just about half an hour away.

Use the buses. Get familar with the bus system and use it. It is easy to use and cheaper than taxis.
