Fantastic boutique hotel in fabulous location

from Marg53
We were referred to this hotel by Czech friends, and were delighted with the 4 days we spent there in June. The property is in a wonderful location, only minutes from the Old Town Centre and King Charles bridge, and has recently been renovated. It is an apartment hotel, which means you have a well stocked kitchen plus two bathrooms, which is fantastic when you're travelling as a family. It is spotlessly clean and well maintained.

The management, led by Hotel Manager Magdalena, were exceptional in helping us, whether it was finding directions to something in Prague or helping us plan our own excursions into the countryside.

We have already referred friends here for their upcoming visit, and think this hotel is one of the best we have ever stayed in, representing great value for money!

You must have a cappiccino in the restaurant for breakfast - almost the size of a soup bowl!

Great place . Great Service!

from Jenspa
My wife, another couple and I stayed here for three nights in late September 2006 and I can't say enough good things about the location, the property and the staff. This was our fourth trip to Europe in the last ten years. Rooms were spacious and extremely clean. Location was particularly important to us since my wife had injured her foot and we were concerned about her ability tro get around. This proved to be no problem as the hotel is located only a few hundred yards from the popular attractions of Old Town and the Charles Bridge. All expected amenities were in place including a few not promoted. For instance, internet access is available in the lobby but I found that I could pick up the hotel's wireless signal from our second floor apartment, free of charge. A nice plus since I didn't have to wait for someone to get off the lobby computer to check email as is often the case at other hotels. This feature came in especially handy when our travelling companions' daugher was admitted into the hospital our first day in Prague. The readily available wireless internet signal enabled us to conveniently stay on top of the situation. Breakfast was simple but of excellent quality. I have never eaten a croissant as light and tasty. Beyond the physical amenities there is the staff ; fluent, helpful and cheery. In planning our last minute weeklong stay in the Czech Republic I ran into difficulty booking hotels in other Czech cities. The Manager, Magdelena went far out of her way to review our itinerary, recommend hotels even suggest car rental options that my travel agent couldn't beat. When I couldn't get a response from hotels in Trebon, Magdelena's staff made the booking for me. If you want a first class experience in a first class establishment you can't go wrong with the Residence Retezova

Worth staying here!

from BarrieB
Very comfortable accomodation - friendly staff - great bed - very clean - quiet - but close to the action. Great value!

Simply amazing

from Georgi_dk
This is so far the best place I excperienced in Europe. It might be not easy to book a longer stay with a short notice. So for the 7 nights I was there, I changed 4 apartment. And you know what - this was even better. I moved between Paris, New York, Ierusalen and Roma. No huzzle at all - our goods where moved to the new place by the time we were back after a city walk. Each of the rooms has its own spirit, so it was real experience. All rooms are very romantic. And also, the hotel is located in the very heart of the city, but in a quiet corner, so it's not nosy at all. I really hope to get back there.

Absolutely gorgeous

from JCoulson
We stayed in an apartment with two double bedrooms and a very good double sofa bed along with two bathrooms, a lounge and kitchen/diner. It also had another put you up bed, so would have slept seven very comfortably. It has the original beams on the ceilings and they are all painted. It also had air conditioning which was vital as it was very hot during our stay. It was extremely clean and comfortable and the beds were made every day and the apartment cleaned. The staff could not be nicer and were extremely helpful.
We had to move rooms after two days (Our booking error not theirs) and we then had one of the apartments in the roof space which again was really lovely, with a twin bedded room and a double in the roof rafters with two bathrooms and a lounge/kitchen diner.
It is in a really good position, two minutes from Charles Bridge and five minutes from Old Town square, but was tucked down a little side street so it was very quiet at night.
We had a fabulous time, prague is really beautiful and very easy to get around although it was a little crowded in July.

Retezova the best

from Buzzy1
We stayed at the Retezova May 21-24, 2006 in the NY Suite.
Large living room, average size bedroom (king bed), kitchen, two bathrooms.
Much better than a hotel (cost Euros 165 without b'fast).
Excellent front desk staff, great location. 2 minutes from Old Town Square & Charles
Bridge, yet on quiet dead-end street. Would highly recommend the Retezova.
Re Prague, the Prague Card is not worthwhile. We walked everywhere, no need
for public transport. Also, museum disc'ts won't pay for the card cost.
Pro's about Prague: great walking city, gorgeous architecture, Jewish section and
Castle area very worthwhile. Also do Petrin Hill and Letna Park, where tourists don't
often go. Great beer.
Con's about Prague: Use ATM's or banks, as money exchange places are all crooks.
Take taxi's used by your hotel, or AAA Taxi. Rest are not honest. Also, main
areas like Old Town Sq. and Charles Bridge flooded with tourists, and I mean flooded.
Reduces the pleasure of the visit a bit. Finally, many service people in banks, airlines,
restaurants, etc still act like from Soviet days. Very unpleasant, but it's probably no
different than in Paris or NY in tourist season.
The Mucha Museum is excellent (see the 30 miunute film they show).
The Museum of Communism also excellent (also with a moving 20 minute film, a must see).
Skip the National Museum. Eat once in the Old Town Sq., touristy, but beautiful.
Walk along the riverfront (no tourists, great building fronts). Eat away from the
main tourist areas (only need go a couple of blocks, or across the river to Castle side).
The beer is fabulous. Prague is one of the great cities in the world, but perhaps
nicer off-season.

Loved it!

from ONTraveler
After one night in an awful hotel that had been highly rated on Trip Advisor, we went searching for a new hotel and found a GEM in Residence Retezova. We are very fussy travelers and found this to be a fabulous location, but a block off the "beaten path" so it was delightfully quiet and peaceful. Beautiful suite, wonderful staff. It saved Prague for us!

PS Do take in the opera while in Prague!

A Magical Experience at Residence Retezova

from Mgdln
My husband and I recently stayed at the Residence Retezova
in Prague May ll-15, 2006. We have nothing but wonderful
things to say about our stay.

Our initial reaction when we walked into the Residence was
what a warm, clean and receptive environment. The
manager, Magdalena Sevcikova was efficient, warm and
inviting. She personally checked on our rooms and made
sure everything was in order.

We had a two bedroom, two bath apartment. It was
extremely clean, up to date in appliances and bathrooms.
The maid service each day was excellent. Everything in
the apartment was cleaner after she came.

Magdalena was extremely helpful in directly us around the
city as well as making dinner reservations. She took the
time and effort to make our stay a memorable experience.

In closing, we would like to say we are planning to go
back in 2007 and stay at the Residence Retezova again. We
know our experience will be as wonderful and memorable as
the first time.

The perfect location!!!!!!

from TG1298
I stayed at this hotel for 9 nights with my husband and my parents. We had the Roma suite which is 2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms. The location is perfect....2 minutes walk to Old Town and 2 minutes walk to the Charles Bridge, but located on a safe, quiet side street with no thru traffic. The reception staff was helpful. The apt was large, clean and mostly quiet at night. The kitchen was well outfitted with a small mini bar, cooktop and oven. It had all the dishes, pots, etc that you might need. There is a small cafe that is located next to the hotel serving breakfast and lunch and treats thoughout the day. I would hightly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quiet place in the heart of the city center.

Above and Beyond

from lenhchrt
Our stay was everything we'd hoped for, and then it became even more. We were upgraded to the New York room, which was a beautiful apartment with bedroom, large living room, kitchen, two bathrooms, cathedral ceilings...perfect for traveling with more than 2. The location cannot be beat...two blocks from the Charles Bridge on the correct side of the river...and many of the popular eating and drinking hotspots are close at hand. We arrived at 8 am off the overnight train and they were happy to store our luggage and got the room cleaned up by 11 am...WOW. My wife then had a major medical episode that required hospitalization and the staff went way beyond the call of duty--assisting our friend who could not speak Czech and needed to find the hospital, helping us find a pharmacy, fielding calls from the US Embassy and even sending multiple e-mails to check up on us after we returned to the US. If you are going to Prague, this is where you want to stay, hands down. I saw a recent bad review, but I can only say that we were so impressed that we haven't stopped raving about it since we returned (it was so far superior to the service we received in Poland) and have been recommending it to friends.

Top Local Tips for Prague

Airport taxi Have hotel staff set up taxi to and from airport. Very convenient and set price.

Currency Exchange We exchanged currency in the UK before we left and got around 35 koruna to the pound - in Prague, we could have easily got 45 to the pound - so exchange a little to get you a cab from the airport, then the rest locally.

expensive taxis prices of taxis vary a lot and some are a rip off. The historical areas are (fortunately) not car friendly and unless you are travelling a long distance walking is definately the way to go
