Proposal Prague!

from colin217
What can we say about Prague! Wow to begin with. The Design Hotel Sax we stayed in was fantastic. The decco of retro furnishins combined with the contemporary 5 star service was just what we wanted. The hygiene was exceptional and the staff were friendly and helpful with anything we required. The bed was a great nights sleep and the afternoon tea was a great little extra. This hotel is located near the Petra Gardens and makes a perfection situation for romantic couples to venture off from. Bars, restaurants and shops are all nearby. There was even a bar opposite the hotel! This city is endless in beautiful architecture and sights to see. Art is stronly evident around the city wherever you go. The city reminded me like dublin, you can walk whereever you need to go!

The Petra gardens are right behind this beautiful hotel and I proposed to my girlfriend there. When I heard the church bells ring on the sunday morning and the trumpeteer playing I had to do it!! She accepted and were getting married next July on the 25th.

Prague beautiful, Hotel fantastic, holiday brilliant.

This is new and modern hotel, with very good service, nice people, brilliant breakfast. Nicely located and easy to walk every where you wanted to go. It was fabulous. The staff was warm and courteous and I had a beautiful room.

Design Hotel Sax - You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave!

from Fox1969
We were hardly through the door and our mouths fell to the floor. If you are a big fan of 50's, 60's and 70's style, this is the hotel for you. Situated in the Mala Strana part of Prague (I think the Czechs call it the Embassy Quarter) it is in very close vicinity to the Castle, which has breathtaking views of the city of Prague below.

We had one of the suites as we were travelling in a group of three. The rooms are very light, extremely clean and all the furnishings and decor are in pristine condition . We even had a DVD Player with a library of at least 20 Dvd's, a really great touch. My friend wandered around the hotel "1000 Chairs" book in hand, marvelling at all the original pieces. It took me a lot of persuading to get her out of the hotel!

You walk into an atrium like lounge and when you look up into the glass skylight, at least 10 different types of light/lamp from all the different eras are hanging along with metal discs which sparkle when the sun shines. I loved going into this room and having "Afternoon Tea" between 4 and 6pm, which included cakes and an array of drinks. I always sat in the seethrough plastic bubble chair which hangs from the ceiling and dreamt that I was in the 60's. The only music played in this hotel is naturally from the 50's, 60's and 70's, which we all loved.

The staff are extremely helpful without being overbearing, which I find a rarity these days. They make you feel very at home and try their very best to fulfil every request. Breakfast was a joy, we were spoilt for choice. My mother said it was the best breakfast she ever had in a hotel.

We only planned to stay for two nights but extended our stay to three. We fell in love with both the hotel and Prague and it was heart wrenching when we had to leave.

I have been to plenty hotels in many different countries and I must say that this was the best experience I have ever had. Considering this hotel is relatively new it is already able to set an example to the other more "seasoned" hotels, both in service and price.

We are already looking forward to coming back next year!

Excellent !

from isoptine
EXCELLENT ! we spent an excellent week end in Prague, and we specially enjoyed the Hotel Sax ! We were like in another world. Our room was really original, with every authentic objects, furnitures, and lights from famous designers, recreate the atmosphere of the '50s to '70s. Each room is different from other ones. There is a magnificent famous lights collection. And the service was really good, and like in a museum, if you want to now something about a furniture, a light, an accessories, a wall paper, you just have to ask and you have your answer with a little history of design. The hotel web site shows a lot of interesting photos, and you can visit the different rooms. Now we really want to change a lot of things in our interior !

Cool design, bad air circulation

from prague79
This hotel is interesting from a design point of view and in a great location. Unfortunately the cleaning staff doesn't seem to care for the share lounge and breakfast areas like they should. The shared areas were stinky (the reception smelled like cleaning products and the lounge like stale cigarettes) and not air conditioned.

For the money, I would recommend trying a different hotel. It's shame since with a few portable air purifiers and a better cleaning staff, this place would get a rating of 5. Management take note!

A great homebase to discover Prague ... and Design !

from Road_runner_bip-bip
We were very impressed by this hotel with its unique atmosphere right in the middle of the city of Prague (Mala Strana). Architecture, furnitures, lights, everything is made to transport you back to the 60's and 70's, making you discover great pieces of design. Our room was very pleasant and calm, with great accomodations we enjoyed very much, just like the excellent breakfast served. It clearly enhanced the pleasure we had to stay in Prague.
We loved :
- care and atttention from the staff
- the extra king size bed and the plentiful pillows
- the design (all and everywhere)
- the accomodations (lcd tv , free dvd, bath and beauty cosmetics, and many other attentions we often do not find in 4* hotels)
- plentiful and delicious breafast (made-to-order meals, organic food, fresh fruits and juices, breads, pastries and many more),
- closed and guarded parking facility not far
- central location so we could just walk to discover the city

As the hotel was renewed only 3 months ago, all services were not available (like fitness room, massage, and we had some problem connecting to wifi) but it was already an excellent experience with a very good quality-price ratio.

Outstanding experience at Design Hotel Sax

from Pittsburgh8
My wife and I traveled through Eastern Europe in May and June 2008, giving us a chance to experience and compare many different accomodations. By far, the Design Hotel Sax was the best. The modern motif was unique and extremely interesting. The rooms were comfortable and exceptionally clean. The staff was attentive and responsive. Not only did they change our room upon our request (our initial room was adjacent to the workout room), but they loaned us a laptop computer for several days during our stay. They made some excellent dinner recommendations too! In particular, the Hotel Manager, Jaroslav Tibitanzl, was personable and gave us personal attention . . . to the point that he sat with us during the Hotel's happy hour and chatted amiably about the Hotel and his experiences visiting the U.S., which was a very nice touch!

The breakfasts were also sumptious. Hotel Sax had an expansive buffet that included several hot breakfast entrees as part of the room rate. It provided us a convenient way to energize ourselves before embarking on a long day of sightseeing throughout Prague. Speaking of sightseeing, the location of the Hotel was superb. It is conveniently located to several of the main attractions, including the Charles Bridge. However, it is not located on any busy thoroughfairs and, thus, is especially quiet and a bit off the beaten track. All in all, our stay was a great experience and I would recommend the Design Hotel Sax unreservedly to anyone visiting Prague.

Dream place to live if you love Design

from athensbyday
I stayed for 3 days and i had the best service ever!
in the middle of the Castle and the Carol's bridge, excellent neiborhood!
The staff cheked in us immediatelly although it was early in the morning. Everybody were very kind and helpfull.
the furniture and wallpapers were so unique! It is like you are in your dream house!
It was so kind that they offer every afternoon coffee and some traditional sweets.
The breakfast was as it had to be, not too much food and everything in high quality!
Overall I would say this is probably the best hotel we have ever stayed in on holiday!

2nd time here - Just love it

from walk2488
This is my 2nd time staying at Hotel Sax. The staff and accomodations are as wonderful as the first time I stayed. We were served complimentary breakfast and afternoon tea each day. The beds and linens were comfy; the bathrooms and the closet area were roomy. There are bath salts left so you can take a luxurious bath in their deep tubs. Also quite lovely were the double windows that opened to the street below. There's also complimentary internet access in the lobby from 7 am - midnight each day.

It is quite close to the Malostranske namesti tram stop. There are lovely shops and bars in this area as well. We did a little pub crawl in that area that included a small bar across the street from the hotel, a wine bar down a bit further down the street then J.J.'s pub. Great food there by the way! There were a couple more spots that looked interesting but we didn't have time to hit them all.

If I return to Prague, I would definitely stay with them again.

A delightful hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
I lived in Prague for one year (1996-7), while teaching English, and so am very familiar with the city. I have returned three times on holiday, and have stayed each time at the Hotel Sax, most recently over Xmas 2003. It is very well situated, being very close to the castle, Petrin Park, Malostranska Namesty and Charles Bridge. It is also within easy walking distance (c.15-20 mins) of Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square, The National Theatre and the Municipal House. It is a converted building, and has been tastefully refurbished and modernised. What was the courtyard has been turned into an atrium. The rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. On one side there are views of Petrin Park, and on the other side the Church of St. Nicholas and the castle. The staff are courteous and helpful, qualities not always found among Prague citizens. There is no restaurant, but breakfast is served in a pleasant breakfast room. Breakfast is adequate, although rather limited in range. The hotel is not as cheap as it used to be, but still represents very good value for this area. It is quiet and very secure, since it can only be reached by a short street which ends in a cul-de-sac, and goes past the American and German embassies, where all cars are stopped by the police, who maintain a 24 hour presence.

Top Local Tips for Prague

The tram is your friend. The tram is fabulous for getting around in Prague. Find a good map and get a pass for your entire trip. Your feet will thank you for it and being above ground, you still get to see the sights!

taxi they steal a lot take only AAA COMPANY

walk Why not walk and see all the sights. It's all within reach. Try to book hotel and flight as a package but don't book with Last they don't include baggage fees!!! cost us £50
