This beautiful hotel is in a fantastic location, the art deco restoration is stunning. The Alcron is a superb 5* hotel, spotlessly clean, super staff who are polite and helpful at all times.
My husband and I went to Prague to celebrate our wedding anniversary, the hotel management sent us Champagne and chocolates which was a lovely touch.
Breakfast is fantastic, it is a buffet with an amazing choice of food, there is nothing they haven't thought of, even bubbly!
For a treat you should try the Alcron sea food restaurant, it will not disappoint, the food is out of this world and the service is second to none. I would recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Prague, a superb experience that made our stay memorable.

Good hotel, but not anything to knock your socks-off.

This was a nice hotel in a good location for our three night stay in Prague. The price was reasonable for this time of the year, mid-February, 2005, which was not in the 'tourist season'. The included breakfast was a nice addition though we did not eat any other meals in the restaurant, wanting to try some of the other eateries for dinner. It was a nice place to stay and could not find any fault with service or facilities.

I read a few of the reviews before I left and to be honest I was shocked at the poor opinions !
This place was fantastic ! It is just off Wencelas Square and therefore everything is within walking distance. This was great because we were warned about the dodgy taxis that rip you off. Although the airport now only employ one taxi company to ensure that the tourists are not ripped off.
Upon arrival at the hotel we were asked if we would like to upgrade our to Royal Club for 45 Euro per night and this included breakfast,bathrobes and slippers,free in room movies,playstation games,cd player in the room,turn down service,a drink of your choice in the bar and a free glass of champagne. It was well worth it - the breakfast was great and included champagne(if it runs out just ask for more).
There were 2 single duvets on our giant bed and all we had to do was ask to get a king size duvet.
We spent one of the evenings sipping cocktails in the Be Bop Bar (the jazz starts at 10 pm) There is also a fantastic Irish Bar a 1 minute walk away which does great food too.
We got the hotel taxi to the airport on the way back,it was a bit more expensive but worth it for the convenience.
We would definitely stay here again and we would highly recommend it to everyone else.

Stayed here in November 2004. On arrival we were expecting the room to be larger purely for the fact that the hotel was a 5 star, but it was decorated to a high standard and the bathroom was beautiful - two sinks, marble surfaces, a heated mirror that doesn't stem up while using the shower and underfloor heating, to keep your tootsies warm.

The jazz bar was very pleasant overall, though very understated and with the exception of one waiter who needs to be taught some manners, all the staff seemed very friendly and helpful indeed.

We recently visited Prague and stayed in the Radisson for 4 nights. In all this was a good trip and the hotel itself far exceeded our expectations after reading the mixed review. We arrived and was picked up by the hotel limo service (around 900czh). The checkin staff was very friendly and professional and the whole procedure over in less than 5 mins. The room was very clean, cosy and big for a european sized room. Breakfast spread was extensive and even includes Champagne. The BeBop bar is a cosy place to have a drink and enjoy the jazz music at night. Reading the previous review, the service must have improved considerably as the hotel was nearly runing on full capacity and the staff was still working with a smile and very obliging most of the time.
The hotel itself is conveniently located in a quite street off Wenceslas square and just 10 mins walk to the Old town square, 20 mins off to the Charles bridge and with all the underground stops nearby.
I would recommend this hotel because of its excellent location and good service.

we had a 3 night stay at the alcron end of november 2004, reading previous reviews before we went i expected more of a "wow" factor, however the room was of a good size and not to fussy, very clean, all the hotel staff were very helpful and courteous no complaints there. as said previously a bit of a queue for breakfast. The location is within a comfortable walking distance to most places. wenslesus square is very touristy by day but at night the "clubs" and ladies of the night take over,however we never felt unsafe walking back to the hotel.

Stayed at the Alcron for three nights in November 2004. The Art Deco look of the hotel is really nice and a treat if that is your thing. However we found the service in the hotel seriously lacking, apart from the housekeeping staff who could not have been more efficient (you have to request bathrobes, they are not supplied in the room). The front desk staff were completely unhelpful, surly and downright rude. A big selling point appears to be the breakfast. Can't see what the fuss was about. There was a lenghty wait in the morning to get into the dining room and this was not addressed. It was a regular buffet where the food is largely precooked. We frequently had to request that certain items be replenished, including the champagne. There was one bottle open at any one time for the entire restaurant. Try somewhere else is my opinion.

We stayed here in October 2004. On the plus side the breakfast buffet is excellent and there is free Champagne! The hotel is friendly and security is tight. Beds are very comfortable and the rooms are spotless. Both restaurants are excellent but expect to pay top dollar. On the negative side: we found the reception below par - inattentive and not very helpful ( this applied to two out of four receptionists we met). We had booked a non-smoking, double room but were given a smoking twin room (however we had booked through lastminute.com [I know! I know!]). The Missus thought the bathroom was very beautiful but small - dim lighting made it difficult for her to apply her make up. TV stations available for Irish and UK customers were limited to BBC World. The Missus was very disappointed there were no tea making facilities in the room - she likes her cuppa! The Missus thought the locaton was not great but the area is very quiet and it is within walking distance of the centre. They provide a Mercedes service to the airport for 890 CK and it's better than a dodgy taxi at 700 CK. Very courteous driver. Please don't be put off by this review as the Missus is quiet fussy. I thought it was fine - but not as good as the reviews made out. So, as the Missus says: "This is not a great hotel, it is a good hotel." And the Missus is never wrong. We're off to Paris next....I'll have to check about the tea making facilities before I book...

What a beautiful hotel!

Upon arrival to this hotel, it took my breath away and entering our room was of the same effect. Rooms had a lovely art deco appearance. Staff are very attentive and cant do enough for you. The live music in the piano bar was beautiful. Buffet breakfast was gorgeous and the restaurant in the evening equally good and reasonably priced. The man playing the piano made dinning a very special experience. We stayed here during a heat wave but the hotels air conditioning was the best Ive ever experienced. Location was handy to all of the attractions. This is the best hotel in Prague and if we ever visit the city again we will certainly stay here again.

Prague is a great city and the Alcron added to the stay being enjoyed.

First appearances from the outside of the hotel are a little disappointing. The hotel is situated in a side street off Wensclas Square (only 100 mtres away) opposite a Subway fast food outlet. Don't expect to be wowed on arrival!

The hotel has reasonable sized public areas without being overly sized. The Be Bop bar is great for pre dinner drinks, and there is a jazz group playing each night except Sunday. The staff are very friendly and attentive.

The rooms ( we stayed in the Royal Club) are of good size and a reasonable standard. There are no views from any of the rooms which is disappointing. They are well equiped, well presented with the usual features of a 5* hotel - safe, bathrobes, minibar, turndown etc. Some rooms can be smaller, (we went with friends and theirs was)

Restaurants - the hotel has an award winning one but as you would expect it is expensive. I can fully recommend the buffet breakfast - great choice, and good quality. Well worth the money - and champagne thrown in too! Don't miss it, it sets you up well for the day.

Would definitely stay in the hotel again. Would rate it 4*++ - the location and outside appearance disappoint, and lack of pool etc detract a little. That said you will not be disappointed overall.

Very nicely redecorated "art-deco" style rooms. Wonderful buffet breakfast! Hotel is not located in the charming Old Town, but within a 10-15 minute walk. Would definitely stay there again.

Top Local Tips for Prague

Budget airlines Be aware that Stag parties use budget airlines , whilst most can be ok there will be some who will amaze you that they have the gift of speech but use it for profanity only.Be like me and think of them as they suffer from mild tourettes.

Pre book for value We booked travel to and from the airport with Prague Airport Transfers in advance. Very good value for money (only £44 between eight of us return), very reliable and Lucas the driver gave us plenty of tips and local info as we were travelling!

Money I would definitely recommend to people who are going to Prague to organise a airport transfer as there are always quite a few people waiitng for taxis. You can use Euros in Prague.
