Historical Traveller Reviews of Hotel Rott

Good value for money

from MrsOX
The hotel Rott was in a great location just next to the old town square. You can walk to any of the main attractions within minutes or use the nearby tram system or metro. The hotel is clean and from what we saw well maintained. The staff were quite friendly and appeared to be able to answer any questions. Our room was probably the only disappointment. We requested a twin which we got,(214) but it was interconnected with the room next door hence you could hear everything that your neighbours were doing and saying. We were also next to the lift which was quite disturbing in the night. Apart from the noise the room was a good size with a great bathroom.
Breakfast was a nice suprise, there was a choice of hot and cold food both sweet and savory.
Overall, I would come back here again but would request another room.
One last tip, using public transport from and to the airport was very easy. Go to the transport desk at the airport and ask for a single ticket, 20ck and 10ck for any luggage you may have. The bus stop is outside the arrivals and you need a 119. This journey takes about 20mins then you get off at the beginning of Line A of the metro where you can then get straight into the centre of Prague in 5-10mins.Your ticket allows you 75mins of travel on any mode of transport, this is plenty of time to get you to your hotel.

The best in Prague

from tersmith2
As others have said, this hotel was excellent by European standards. The location couldn't be more perfect.... a few hundred yards from the Old Town Square. We didn't think the room was too small, but we were on the top floor so the ceilings were high, plus our room overlooked the central courtyard so it was bright and airy! The room and bathroom were cleaned very well every day, no complaints there. The breakfast buffet was huge! All kinds of food, a big dining room.... Much, much better than the other two pensions we stayed in on this trip. We were there for 5 nights, and the front desk staff was extremely friendly and helpful, even making dinner reservations for us when we merely asked how to get to a certain restaurant.

Wonderful Location

Perfect location - right around the block from Old Town Square. They were extremely considerate as well. We booked a regular room, but because we had 2 young children, they let us have an apt on the 4th floor at no extra charge!! The apartment was LOVELY. When we go back I will definitely stay there. The breakfast was another pleasant surprise.

You were right - not a four star hotel

Just returned fron Rott hotel where we stayed for a week. Location was great, breakfast was excellent and room was clean...... now here comes the rest..... rooms are quite small. There are only small showers in all rooms, no bath tubs in any room of the hotel the receptionist informed us. The satellite tv shows mainly czech, german, french and cnn channels... so no english or italian channels for us. Again the receptionist said they would do something about it but nothing happened in the week we were there, even though I asked twice.... so we had cnn news all week. There is more...take my advice if your best part of sleep happens to be between 5am and 6am please don't go to this hotel as everyday, except sunday morning, the refuse collection and laundry services of the hotel decide to take their trollies for an early morning stroll on the nice prague cobbled streets creating what sounds like a mini-thunder storm for the whole hour....(that is why I needed some good tv channels which I could understand). When I asked if this work could be done at a decent hour of the day, the receptionist said she never heard anyone complaining about this before!!!! Just for the records we were in room 217 between the 30th May 2006 and 6th June 2006.. I'd like to find a review from someone who was on that side of the hotel in those days.
We had a very good week in prague, felt very safe but this eary morning business was no good for us......wouldn't stay at rott hotel again :-(

Loved the Hotel Rott in Prague

from A TripAdvisor Member
I really enjoyed my stay at the Hotel Rott. The rooms were very clean and well maintained, lovely bathroom with a large walk-in shower. The Hotel has recently been refurbished to a high standard. The hotel is very well situated, around the corner from the Old Town Square and all the main tourist attractions were very close by. The breakfast is served buffet style and there was a good selection of cereals, fruit, meats and cheeses and also bacon eggs and sausages. Breakfast is served from 7.00 am to 10 am. Reception staff were very polite and helpful although there was a little difficulty with their English language, not enough to cause a problem. I would recommend this Hotel to anyone thinking of travelling to Prague and would certainly use it myself if I ever return to Prague.

Great Location for Prague

from Pywacket1
Hotel Rott is in a great location around the corner from the Astronomical Clock on the Old Town Square. Mostly quiet at night. Clean rooms. Ours was a twin, quite small but clean and had a corridor to the bathroom that afforded a little more privacy than usual. Good breakfast between 7-10am. Didn't like the juices and cakes but everything else was fine. Plenty of choice.
The lifts were glass and as I suffer from claustrophobia and would not normally use a lift I felt able to use them without discomfort.
Staff were pleasant but on two occasions I called for help with the safe and they did not respond at all . Luckily the safe opened eventually for me. The English spoken by the staff was not that clear and this did cause some difficulty.
On arrival we were given a voucher for a restaurant and were not shown where it was. This resulted in us going to the Restaurace U ROTTA next door who had staff on the door saying they were belonging to Hotel Rott when in fact they were not. Restaurace U Rotta overcharged us, did not present the Czech folk dance they promised on their advertisement, just a heavy jazz trio. They doubled the bill for our meal, charged us for bread we had not ordered or eaten, and charged us 220CK for a small bottle of water. I think they saw 2 British women alone and tried it on. A large man argued with us over the bill.
We warned Hotel Rott staff that this restaurant is riding on their reputation and clearly ruining it but they could not see the problem. It was a very upsetting experience for us.
However I would rate Hotel Rott as a 3 star + and would stay there again and recommend it for others. Just do not go to the Restaurace U Rotta next door !! (see photo "outside hotel").

Terrible hotel with awful service

from AlexMoscow
On arrival we were given a very small double room (9m2 max.) with no view. The only window was somewhere at the ceiling. We had to stay on a chair to look out of the window! We paied for all this 220 EUR per night!!!!! The service was really awful!. Many times we witnessed arguments at the reception. There were lots of tiny standatrd double rooms. THe only pro is the location. We will never stay in the hotel again.

Good hotel but not a 4 stars

from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel has a great location, quiet but very central.Rooms are confortable, but after the first day they are not well cleaned.Breakfast is very good, with a lot of choice. The price is honest.Staff is friendly enough. The hotel is not a 4 stars, but a superior 3 stars

Very nice by European standards

from A TripAdvisor Member
Hotel Rott's location cannot be beat - everything is in walking distance.

The rooms are very clean and the heated bathroom floors are superb in Feb! Breakfast is filling and they have loads of choices for picky eaters...

Ensure who ever you booked the room through gave you a "voucher" (print it and bring it with you) and ask that they also fax their confirmation to the Hotel itself because the reception doesn't seem to have payment info on reservations made on-line (?) and it can cause problems checking in.

Great Hotel, fabulous location

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at the Rott for my 30th Birthday and could not fault the hotel. The rooms were bright and very spacious (we stayed in Superior room on 3rd Floor). The loaction of the hotel is excellent - leading right into the old town square. We didn't once need to get a taxi/tram or train as we were able to walk everywhere which was excellent.

The only downside, was that the one morning we were up in time for breakfast (served 7-10am) we couldn't find an empty table in the breakfast room. I would suggest no leaving it until 9.30-10.00 which seems to be when EVERYONE decides to take breakfast!

In summary, an excellent choice. I will definately stay here again when I return to Prague

Top Local Tips for Prague

Taxi Pre-book your airport transfers as much easier and cheaper and you get a free commentary from the driver about the sights

Arriving and departing On arrival we took a yellow AAA taxi to the hotel, which cost around £15, which is the going rate. However, on the return journey we took the advice of the Information Office in Prague and took the underground for three stops and then the airport shuttle bus, at a total cost of £1. The journey was quick (30 minutes) and easy to follow.

Restaurants Avoid pub-type restaurants for the local Czech cuisine
