Well worth it
from A TripAdvisor MemberArrival: warm welcome with knowledgeable staff, retrieval of booking information and check in were a snap.
Room: Good size and nicely furnished with complimentery cake and fruit basket. Bed was very comfortable with ample pillows, plus extra blankets in wardrobe. Unfortunately they follow the German style with two single duvets, rather than one double, but your mileage will vary on whether you like this idea. Turn down service in the evening is a nice touch that's normally missing these days. Tea & coffee making facilities in room were also appreciated but the Minibar was a complete rip off in comparison to local prices, 330ml beer from minibar around 3 GBP, 500ml from shop across the street 0.55 GBP. Shop is open 7-11 btw.
Bathroom: nice marble with shower over bath, plenty of good quality toiletries and spotlessly clean. Bath was on the small side.
Breakfast: can't be faulted, the buffet had something for everyone, from muesli to chocolate cake. Nice hot section for those who enjoy a good fry up too.
Bar / Lounge: could be better, feel is more travel lodge than 5 star hotel. We didn't take dinner at the hotel, so can't comment on the 'Gourmet Club'
Check out: again professional attention and the bill was correct.
Value: we booked through the 'Leading Hotels Of The World' website for 149 EUR per night including breakfast and taxes, which for the price seemed well worth it.
Perfect weekend!
from GemimaPrague is the most amazing city. Many people had told me how wonderful it was but it surpassed my expectations. The only part I was not too fond of was Wenceslas Square which reminded me so much of the tacky Oxford Street in London. The convenience of staying at the Principal hotel is it is so handy for visiting everywhere without the need to use public transport. Prague is a delightful city and I am definitely coming back to show my husband all the incredible buildings and yes I would definitely stay at the Place hotel again!
Great location, average service, and blah tiny room
from upgradedThe Pearl of Prague
from A TripAdvisor MemberGood Quality Hotel, Excellent Location
from A TripAdvisor MemberIt is centrally located as previously stated, about 2 minutes from Wenceslas Square(which is more of an attractive Avenue), 10 minutes from the Old Town Square, and 15 minutes from Charles Bridge. There are many shopping arcades within minutes from Mothercare to M&S and Next, with lots of more local and higher end brands aswell.
The hotel itself is clean and the service is good, from the concierge through to the housekeepers and reception staff.
No doubt we will return when we're next in Praha.
Decent Hotel, Good Location
from jasonmymailThe location is very good, just behind Wencleslas Square (1 min), a gentle stroll to the old town square (<10mins); from there an another 5 minutes west to the Charles Bridge, or 5 minutes north to the Jewish Cemetary. All the major attractions are easily walkable from the hotel with the castle a pleasant 1/2 hour or so walk away (obviously longer if you're distracted by shops and sights - but that's all part of the appeal) through some of Pragues main streets and attractions. We didn't use public transport once during our stay. Wencleslas Square is a buzzing shopping area by day, it's a tad tacky/seedy at night but we never felt unsafe as there are always many people around even during low season.
The hotel itself is about 100 years old and in a nice old building located on a corner. A doorman greets you at the classy entrance, through to the lobby which is smart and well finished but not opulent or glitzy. You get the impression of a good quailty hotel, but not one which is stuffy or snobby.
Our room on the 5th floor faced the interior courtyard - there was no real view but it was very quiet and well shielded from traffic and tram noise. The room was a good size and the queen bed large and comfortable, if a little firm. Furniture, fittings, carpets and curtains were nice - nothing extrordinary but tasteful and understated. The bathroom was also large and finished in marble with chrome fixtures. It was very clean but minor let downs were a musty shower curtain, a plastic bath that was too narrow and grouting that was probably due for renewal - there were however new bath seals. None of this would be enough to put me off staying there again but might have helped to push my rating closer to the excellent level. Water pressure and temperature were fine and towels large, replaced every day.
The room was cleaned every afternoon, and a turn down service in the evening - the Palace seemed to time everything very well in this respect.
Other features included, safe, small TV with Pay TV & satellite (but mostly German channels), in room internet (for a fee), lots of storage, airconditioning, trouser press (not electric), kettle with complimentary tea/coffee, mini bar (at usual inflated hotel prices), telephone in room and bathroom, hairdryer, bureau table. Freebies included a nice selection of travel bottle tolietries, nail file, soap, shoe shine, sewing kit and best of all slippers with Palace Hotel Logo.
Breakfasts were excellent with a very large selection of hot english, continental croissants, pastries and breads, cereals, yoghurts, local cakes, fruit cocktails, pancakes, toast, cheeses, cold meats and even chicken/beef/potatoes. Open from 6AM to 11AM you really could eat at a time to suit.
Service was friendly, staff happy to help but not all over you by any means. Subtle is the best way to describe it - not overly intrusive, not snobby - just the way we like it. There seemed to be a nice varied mixture of guests and as a gay couple we always felt comfortable.
If you want a good hotel in a good location for your sightseeing base then the Palace should definitely be on your short-list. For the price we paid it was very good value indeed. If you want a view, something more ornate, grandiose or exclusive then perhaps elsewhere would suit you better. All in all the Palace was a good choice and we enjoyed our stay.
Great City--Great Hotel

Stay at this hotel
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe location of this hotel is perfect if you wish to explore the city by foot. Just off Wenceslas square we walked to all the major sights and never had to once use public transport. All in all this was a beautiful hotel in a magical city, would not hesitate to stay here again in the future.
great hotel

from atraveler246Top Local Tips for Prague
beware dont use taxis!! underground links are great to the city and getting around the city is great by tram. also watch out at bars and clubs for younger males and females , the staff can be very aggressive and charge you to leave the venue. Be wary of bar tabs as have been stung several times at beer halls who charge you for shots you refuse and they leave at your table!! very cheeky
hotel palace praha ottimo hotel
Weekends can be wild in Prague Apparently all of Europe comes to Prague for cheap beer on the weekends. Even in a relatively quiet season, the city is packed on Saturday and Sunday and certain areas can be quite crowded with revelers. If you want a quieter experience, trying going midweek.
