Lazy personnel, terrible breakfast, small rooms with no shampoo, quite far from city center, very old style decoration and equipment, no internet, you have to pay for baggage room, suitable for cheap tours...

I stayed at the Olympik Tristar Hotel in June July 2008 for 8 nights, and was there during the IPF World Bench Press competition, so I knew a large number of other guests staying at the hotel to compare experiences. I think the best way to sum up my experiences of hotel is to make a list:
Disappointments
·Requested a double room and got a twin room
·Broken air conditioning throughout most of the hotel no air con in bedrooms. The weather over the last week was unbelievably hot, rising close to 30 degrees. Complained about the lack of air con but nothing was done.
·Lots of noise from nearby construction sites
·The pillows resembled a beany toy that had lost most of its stuffing had to bunch into a ball to prop my head up at night
·Mini bar fridge radiated lots of heat and barely kept contents above room temperature. Complained about this but nothing was done.
·The shower holder was broken
·Only soap provided no shower gels, lotions, etc.
·Voices coming through the ventilation system scared the living daylights out of me in the bathroom one day
·The in-room safe is accessed using your room key
which the staff have copies of to clean your room, etc.
·No outside area to hang out in if you wanted to enjoy the sun
·Views from the hotel are of other hotels, construction sites, wasteland and industrial towers
·Fire alarm went off before an event at the hotel this was not a routine alarm test!
·The breakfast consisted of bowls of natural yoghurt (with preserves), cereals, small crusty rolls, brown bread, salami, cheese, boiled eggs, (dry) cakes, hot dogs, apples, and orange pieces EVERY DAY. If you got there early you may see some watermelon. Saw some kiwi fruit once
·Cold drinks (which were warm) consisted of water, orange concentrate solution, and a red drink, which we never worked out quite what it was
·One day we saw staff pouring liquid from a vat into the coffee drinks canisters - not encouraging!
·The leftover food from a bench press competition banquet was served at breakfast the following morning
·There is a fine of 10 euros if you take food from the food hall. There is also a fine for removing cutlery from the food hall
·Crockery was chipped
·Drinks at reception were ridiculously expensive 90 kc for a can of coke
·Dinner looked so awful, and had such a bad review from fellow guests that my boyfriend and I avoided it
·I only ever saw the souvenir shop open a couple of times while I was there
·Never saw the bowling open alley during our entire stay
Good points
·Rooms were clean and cleaners were friendly
·Reasonably priced restaurants nearby hotel. According to other guests, food in nearby hotels was OK too.
·Hotel near tram stops and between 2 metro stations. Only approx. 10 mins away from the centre of Prague
·Albert supermarket nearby
Overall, it was the lack of air con during such hot weather that really let this hotel down for me, and the lack of variety at breakfast. Could have put up with it for a short stay, but was definitely a poor experience for 8 nights. It was definitely over-priced for what we paid for. 2 Canadian guests looked into flying home early because they could not take any more of the hotel! Will definitely stay elsewhere when I next visit Prague.
