Awful hotel

I stayed at the Legie hotel in July 2006 with my Mum and sister. The lift was very dangerous because you opened what was just a wooden door and stepped into a very small cubicle, there were no sides to the lift so you had to make sure that you didn't lean against the side because the walls were moving fast as the lift went up or down. it was 100 degrees when we were there and there was no air conditioning we eventually managed to borrow a fan which wasn't much use in the intense heat as it just blew around the warm stuffy air, and didn't cool it really. We wanted to plug a phone charger in, we had an adaptor but the plug socket on the way was broken and half hanging off the wall, it looked very dangerous, the bathroom seemed ok until we turn the hot tap on in the bath, it would not turn off and it burn right through a plastic hose that was connected to it because the water was red hot, so its 100 degrees with no air conditioning and the air in Prague is very heavy and think because of the pollution and now we have got boiling water pouring into the bath non stop and filling the room with steam. We called someone to help from the reception, they took about an hour to get someone, they could stop the tap and they got someone else who stopped it in the end after about 2 hours of it, they didn't speak English and looked at us like it was our fault. The bread in the resturant looked like it had been there about a week, it was ok when we were first there but, it soon became obvious that they keep bringing the same bread out everyday. We could not believe that the hotel was 3 star, in the UK I don't think the hotel would be allowed to be open like that. The good thing about it were the friendly people on reception who were very nice.

From the outside, quite a dismal building, nice reception and friendly staff, lift is a nightmare carrying only 3 passengers over 8 floors. Room was large, spotless, well fitted out and toasting warm. Toilet was ok although we had a shower in the bath but no shower curtain. Hotel stands on corner of main road link to Wenceslas Square only 5 mins walk away. Was quite noisy even on the 7th floor with non stop traffic 24/7. Found an amazing Italian called the Pizzeria Amfora just two mins walk away. Romantic, cheerie, tasty and cheap!!!

From the outside you might run a mile, when you see the lift you probably will. BUT DONT. The staff are very helpful, the rooms are spotless. The location is good. The only moan I had was the lack of air con, but with the windows left open whilst you going out exploring even this was not a problem. I will return.
