Fantastic experience

This is one of the best Boutique hotels I have stayed so far. I particularly like their service and room.
First of all, the location is great. Within 15 minutes, you reach the old town square. Rynba street looks a little bit dark at night, but it should be ok before 11pm (just right after the Opera performance).
The room itself was amazing. This is a lady-friendly hotel. The amenities include Dead sea bath salt. dead sea body scrub which is so sueful during hote summer, DVD player (that means you can listen to your own CD), umbrella in the room and free high speed internet access.
Their service was good enough I think. Ask for room No. 1-5 (pink house) at higher floor if you want a view. Room No. 6-9 will face the court yard. Immediately when you entry the room, you see the welcome chocolate pack signed by the manager, and in the afternoon, you get a free small bottle of mineral water and the room service already make the bed for you and put a clean bedside mat on the foor. But with a price like this, they should give us big bottle of water instead.
I ordered some food from the room service menu.
It was not good enough for this kind of hotel.

Very impressed with the Josef

I've just spent three nights staying at the Josef and was hugely impressed. Stylish, efficient, conveniently located and good value. As other reviews have stated, breakfasts are very good. Unlike other reviews however, I did not find staff indifferent, and all I spoke to had good english. For that matter, I did not think that the location was in any way dodgy. Hotel reception suggested turning right onto Dlouha which was a short stroll along a well lit street to either Revolucni or the Old Town Square.
I would not hesitate in recommending the Josef and will if at all possible stay there again soon. Also highly recommended is the Nostress cafe, just opposite the Spanish synagogue, for excellent food and on Saturday nights, excellent live jazz from Elin & her band.

Great Disappointment

My friend and I visited The Joseph in Prague Nov 03.
This was my second visit to Prague and my friends first.
We spent ages reading reviews/brochures and press articles before making our final choice of hotel.
On my previous visit with a different friend I stayed at The Intercontinental due to an over-booking at The Ambassador.
This time a modern designer Hotel really appealed.
Sounded gorgeous!
What a disappointment!
The Joseph was located in a dodgy back street.
We felt unsafe walking back to the hotel at night in the dark.
Our room was bland and pokey.
Poorly ventilated.
No bath, which was much needed after long days on foot sight-seeing.
Staff were mostly indifferent and not all spoke English.
Breakfasts were the saving grace.
They really were very good.
Huge choice.
Pancakes, omeletts etc. cooked to order.
The Smoked salmon and also fresh kiwi cheesecake were to die for!
Coffee disappointing, unless you asked for expresso which they did very well.
Also good selection of fruit teas and fresh juices available.
However, restaurant sadly lacking in atmosphere.
Our mini bus driver asked about our stay when he collected us on our homeward journey.
He said our comments were typical of many visitors he'd picked up from The Joseph.
Most of which told him they would not stay there again.

Josef disappointing

Booked this hotel for 3 nights after reading reports on tripadvisor and looking at hotel website but a bit disappointed. It was very modern and clean but didn't like the location - down a back street. The staff were friendly, and breakfast was OK but I've had better. What was really annoying was the way they cleared your plates/glasses the minute you'd finished eating or drinking anything. I like good service but felt this was a bit too much.
Agree with most of the reviews here, but

My wife and I just returned from four nights at the Josef. We agree with the other reviewers. The Hotel Josef is in an excellent location, modern, clean, helpful staff and the best breakfast on the continent.
Now for the "but . . "
Many of the staff do not speak very good English. While this wasn't really a big problem, we had to spend more time in the communication process than we expected.
Beware of hidden phone charges when you check out.
Finally, like the pictures on their website, this is a modern hotel, so if you're looking for that old European charm, you won't find it at the Josef.

No surprises but lived up to expectations

Just returned from a weekend in Prague with a friend, staying at the Josef for four nights. We had two standard doubles, one smoking (416) and one non-smoking (102). Neither overlooked the courtyard, despite the publicity that 'almost all' rooms do. 102 was fine, though - it looked over the cobbled street outside, which was quite sweet; 416 unfortunately faced an apartment block's balconies and as it was warm out one or two of the not-so-attractive residents were displaying more flesh than was pleasant! 416 is quite small but not unacceptably so (for single occupancy at least); 102 is a good size room and overall very pleasant. Both rooms were well furnished and decorated (no overpowering fabrics or florals!) and had plenty of towels, robes etc.
The staff are really helpful, the bar is pleasant, the late breakfast is really great for not being stressed about rushing in the morning if you have been out late the night before. The selection of food available at breakfast is very good by European standards. We found the hotel's restaurant recommendation very disappointing - after the first night we cancelled others they had recommended and chose places ourselves by checking out menus etc. during the day when we were sightseeing and just asking the hotel to make the reservations. The hotel car is expensive compared to taxis, and the hotel will make taxi arrangements for you to make sure you get a decent firm - but the hotel cars are nicer so it's worth it for a longer journey like the airport transfer. It's really refreshing to stay somewhere with good service but no 'chintziness' - we were quite sad to leave!

Loved this hotel!

I agree wih the other posts here. My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a week while on our honeymoon in Prague and absolutely LOVED it. The bedrooms were small, but the beds were so comfortable and the bathrooms very chic and clean. The breakfasts were amazing--you can order omelettes, pancakes, hot chocolate, great fruit, almost anything you want and it is served until 11:30. The service is impeccable as well--everyone is very attentive. This hotel made our trip to Prague unforgettable. 5 stars all the way!
Superb

This hotel was amazing. The glass bathrooms are gorgeous and the showers are first class. Breakfast went on for hours and the selection was amazing - egg white omelette is to be recommended as is the hot chocolate. The reception desk was extremely helpful in recommending and booking hotels and the taxi service they use is very reliable. Staff are friendly and all speak very good English. We booked online through a travel agent in Prague and got a superb deal. Would definitely go back.
I would return to Hotel Josef in a heartbeat

I found the hotel to be different but fun. A nice change. I loved the location. I had a good experience with the staff. I had a wounderful view from the 8th floor looking out over the front entrace of the hotel. I could see famous landmarks from my window. My room was clean, but small. It was hard to have a open suitcase on the floor plus walking space but, I wasn't in Prague for the floor space. I was there for the Prague outside my window.
Hugely disappointing

I have just spent three nights at the hotel Josef, which is seemingly "plugged" in every newspaper, magazine etc as the place to stay when in Prague.
Yes it looks cool, chic, but ergonomically it doesn't work!Hard surfaces, ubiquitous limestone, now cracking, and the most appalling service in the breakfast room. Cold, weak coffee - ask for an espresso instead. Manouvre your way through the tightly packed tables to the buffet several times and you just want to get out!
Bedrooms are the saving grace!!

Top Local Tips for Prague
Changing money If someone asks you to change money in the street don't do it and don't be fooled by low or no commission on money exchange in some shops.
New Italian restaurant I think its is called D'Angelo's by Kogo and is near to the hotel in the Jewish quarter. The food was great as was the service and the decor was lovely. Not expensive either considering the quality of the food.
Not many good shops Once you've seen the sights, the shopping is not a good diversionary activity! The clothes shops are pants, but will probably improve in a few years' time.
