How Hotel Jalta, set in the increasingly seedy setting of Wencelas Square in Prague, has managed to secure a 5 star rating is beyond me. Firstly as an experienced traveller i expect to apay that little bit more for telephone calls made from the hotel room, but man do these guys see you coming....2 ten minute phone calls within the EU and i was charged over $100!!! This was after i consulted (and was misled) by the telephone charges card they leave in the room. Complaints fell on deaf ears. The rooms were nowhere near 5 star standard - it was exactly the same as most 3 star Hotels. The Hotel Jalta bar staff were friendly, the reception staff consistently bewildered, the taxi staff surly, and the maintenance staff very busy on the constantly broken elevator. Finally DO NOT opt for the Hotel Jalta run taxi service, it costs twice as much to get you to the airport than it would a local operator.
