The hotel is situated about 20 minutes by tram or about 15 minutes andnearly 700 ck(including tip) from the centre. In the restaurant we ordered staters which were small portions and extremly creamy soup (with cream on top). The main courses were nice but the meat was slightly bland as in much places in prauge.the desert was dry but the pancakes were lovely. We were the only british in the hotel and the receptionist spoke basic english to muddle through. We asked about security boxs and were given an envelope and it was going to be put in the main safe,we declined of course. The rooms had seven channels with cnn news in english(at times) and 6 other channels including mtv which were german but we are unsure what language. The bathroom had a square shower in the corner which looked like it was from a prison drama and dark green tiles along the walls. Over all didnt use it much. Definitly budget but at least the rooms looked and seemed clean (i hope).

Not Brilliant

I spent 3 nights here in October and I have to say I was disapointed with the hotel. It was nice but I was expecting a lot more than I got. The rooms were smallish for a 5* hotel and the bathroom flooded every time the shower was used. Room cleaning was varied and all of the staff were less than enthusiastic to help. There was a convention on when we were there and the noise in the bar was excessive. Loud swearing was unchallenged by management and the bar staff were openly drinking alcohol whilst on duty. Breakfast was average for what we paid and the waiting staff were once again less than helpful. Not recommended, sorry

Great city, great location, but be careful

We had a very enjoyable four night stay at the Intercontinental in Prague. It was our first visit to Prague. We went with high expectations and were not disappointed. The Intercontinental is in a great location next to the river and within easy walking distance of virtually everything of interest.

The Hotel's exterior is not exactly in keeping with it's surroundings. Inside the lobby and general areas were spacious and adequate. Our room was also spacious and the view of the river and Prague Castle beautiful. The bathroom was medium sized with an excellent shower.

The buffet breakfast was very good and a source of daily amusement. The first day our omelet chef (age 21) was training an apprentice who was about age 16. The next day the 16 year old was training a 15 year old apprentice. By our last day a 14 year old was training a 12 year old. Amazingly our omelets were good every day and the range and quality of choices excellent.

What to watch out for: the Czechs have taken capitalism to a new level. We took the train from Vienna and had the concierge from the Intercontinental Vien call ahead to have a car from the hotel pick us up at a cost of $11. The car and driver were there and the bill was almost $50. Only after getting the manager did we get that resolved. Our room rate included VAT but the hotel added it on anyway(extra 22% by their calculations). I'd made my reservation through American Express and only after threatening to call Amex did they remove it. Finally, we agreed on a price of $31 for a hotel car and driver take us to the airport. It was included on our bill. Five weeks later I got an additional charge for $31 on my Amex bill for the same trip.

Despite this we highly recommend both the Intercontinental and Prague as long as you keep one hand on your wallet.

Wonderful Hotel

Having just completed my 63rd trip to Europe, I can say with some authority how wonderful it is to stay at the Prague InterContinental! The service was wonderful with helpful and friendly staff (even the maids were smiling); check-in was a breeze; the rooms are quite large, nicely decorated and clean; breakfast was AMAZING (if they don't have it, you don't want it; hot buffet, large variety of breads, large variety of cheeses, fresh fruit, excellent jams, etc); and the location could not be better. Nearly everything is within a 15 min walk (except for the Prague Castle, which is a nice 30 min walk across the river and up the hill). I also joined the InterContinental Ambassador Club just before heading to Prague -- and this comes with nice touches like automatic upgrade to next room type, complimentary items in room (fresh fruit, mineral water, pasteries, chocolates, newspaper and wine), one free movie with every stay, and - the best - guaranteed late checkout until 4pm (no having to check-out in the AM and store your luggage; I was able to site-see all day, return to my room and freshen up before checking out and catching my train).

Great Location and Impeccable Services

I stay in the hotel end of July for 3 days over the weekend.

First of all, the location is great. It is close to the Jewish Quarter for sightseeing. Don't miss walking along Parizska from the hotel to the old town square, there are lots of beautiful buildings and cafes along the way. You will see lots of locals there as well as tourists. I was told it is one of the most expansive address in the city.

Services... I got upgraded to the club floor. The club lounge is simply amazing and very convenient for free breakfast, a drink before heading out and even a snack. The staff were extremely helpful when ask to reserve restaurants etc.

The only negative thing is the building. It is quite modern and therefore out of place in Prague. However, the rooms are lovely and of a good size. I would stay there again the next time I visit Prague.

Excellent hotel

Perfect location right next to Vlata river. Only 5 minute walk to Old Town and Jewish Quarter. Less than 10 minute walk to the famous Charles bridge. Excellent service. We signed up for an Intercontinental Ambassador priority club. It guarantees for a room upgrade and that's what we got. We were upgraded to a junior suite with a river view. Also, we got a great room in Vienna and Budapest. Buffet breakfast in this hotel was excellent. Love Prague. If we go back to Prague, we will definitely stay at this hotel again.

Great Location, Iffy Service

My wife and I stayed in Prague, in July 2005, as part of our honeymoon. The hotel itself is very nice, which is what you would expect from the Intercontinental. The location is fabulous, about a 2 minute walk from the Jewish Quarter, and a 5 minute walk to the Old Square. The only negative is the service. The concierge staff was rude, and appeared to be inconvenienced when asked a few questions. We had to push them a bit, but in the end, they did provide the necessary information requested. If booked in advance, the price is also very good. We paid about EURO 135/night, which for this level of a hotel and its location, was pretty good for July, and included an excellent breakfast.

One of the best

Not the prettiest or most charming hotel building in Prague, but the service was extraordinary and the rooms VERY large and luxurious. Rather pricey, but it is without question in the most convenient location in the old city. Within walking distance of most everything one would wish to see (except Prague Castle). Staff incredibly accomodative and went above and beyond the call of duty. Car and driver to airport in IC Hotel Mercedes was $35. Beds and linens/pillows were outstanding and the large marble bath with fantastic shower was wonderful. The gift shops on the main lobby level are actually less expensive than other stores in Prague! I would absolutely stay here again and can recommend it wholeheartedly.

Outstanding service, but pricey

We stayed two nights at the Intercontinental Praha in conjunction with a business trip, and then 7 nights at other properties in Prague, so we were able to make a fair comparison. First, I disagree with the previous reviewer. Perhaps we had a better room, but ours was well furnished and had plenty of space to be comfortable. The property was immaculately clean. The service was fast and professional. In comparison to many places in Prague that can be professional, but cold, the staff at the Intercontinental was warm and personal. Food quality was just average for such a landmark facility, but their presentation earned high marks. The view from the Zlatá Praha restaurant at sunset is simply amazing. Comparing prices, the hotel is several multiples beyond properties outside the Old Town area. I don't mind paying extra for location, but this was indeed a high premium.

Other than the location amd the hotel restaurants, I was disappointed by this hotel. The rooms were extraordinarily generic and quite small. We have previously stayed at other Intercontinentals in Europe that were wonderful, so we had reasonably high expectations. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The rooms looked like they still had the original Soviet-era furnishings. But the location, a five minute walk from the Old Town Square, was great, on a beautiful tree lined street. The breakfast buffet and the restaurant on the top floor for dinner were excellent.

Good location, reliable hotel

We recently spent 4 nights in the Intercontinental on holiday.

My impressions were positive, on the whole. For a tourist, the hotel's location is excellent - just off the edge of the Jewish Quarter, and within easy walking distance of the major sights. The rooms were comfortable, and in my case, quiet - we had requested a room at the back, rather than overlooking the river (and the busy main road beside it). From my experiences, the staff were also uniformly helpful, polite, and well-trained.

So why not 5 stars ? Well, the downsides were the size of the room, and the prices.

The room was certainly not small, but it was pretty standard Holiday Inn size, although with better quality furnishings ! The bathroom, while acceptable and usable, was again not the size I would expect from a premier grade hotel. (Note : As a Priority Club member, I got an upgrade to an Executive Room. I don't know if the standard rooms were smaller - I certainly hope not!)

The prices were also pretty high - the published rate for the room was comparable to what I would expect in a Western European capital city, as were the food and drink prices. I can't comment on the food quality, since we never ate in - we went elsewhere in the city, and found good food at half to two thirds of the hotel price.

However, if you don't mind the cost, the hotel location is pretty near ideal, and it is certainly a comfortable base for exploring the city. Recommended.

Top Local Tips for Prague

Yummy Cake If you love Chocolate Cakes you've got to find a place that sells Prague Balls. They are huge, tasty balls that are to die for!!!

U Vejvodu Fun, original and very inexpensive place to eat and drink, tavern style, close to Charles bridge on the east side of the river, a lot of, but not only, younger people, visitors as well as locals. Great food with huge portions. ulice Jilská 4, Praha 1 http://www.restauraceuvejvodu.cz/

Airport and train station If arriving by train it is easy to get to you hotel via the metro if you have a hotel in the city. Be sure to check with the TI booth and know which stop is closest to your hotel. If arriving by plane it best to take the bus (least expensive) to the metro or take a taxi to your hotel.
