Staying at the Apollon for three days in September 2007, I found it to offer clean and basic accommodation, certainly not the three star claimed, but a reasonable two star. Breakfast was a typical continental breakfast, with a wide choice of breads,fruits, cereals, toast, hard boiled eggs et, plus tea, coffee and fruit juices. Sadly only breakfast is available; the restaurant is not open in the evenings and at lunchtimes.The twin bedded room I stayed in, 109, was clean and had a balcony overlooking a park at the rear of the property.The bathroom fittings were all new, hot water was available instantly, and the bed linen was spotless.

The hotel needs new carpets throughout; this gives it a down at heel apperarance. Neverthless it is just 200m from a tram stop on lines 1, 5 and 9, and is just 15 - 25 minutes from Wenceslas Square in the city centre, depending on the traffic and passenger numbers.

It is not an outstanding hotel, but when combined with an easyJet flight from East Midlands Airport and three nights B&B for £99, it is an option worth considering for those on a budget.

Great staff, very clean

We travelled on a three day break to prague and stayed at apollon hotel bed and breakfast. The room was warm and clean,but breakfast was very definitely no use to the average Brit. The dining room possessed one little domestic toaster that was broken,you had to keep toaster arm pressed down to operate it,apart from toast there was only cold meats,cheese and onions and cheap bitter coffee and no tea.We were told it was 10 minutes by tram to wenceslas square but took 25 minutes,there was nowhere locally to dine or get a drink of an evening as the hotel did not have a bar or open the dining room apart from breakfast time. The staff were lovely people and very helpful,but all in all could not reccomend the hotel.

Top Local Tips for Prague

Travel in Prague - invest in a travel pass on arrival at the airport. A three day pass will cost just 220 Czech crowns, which is about £7. This will enable you to travel into the city centre, or to any location where you are staying, and have unlimited travel during your stay. The Prague Travel Office at the airport is open until 2200hrs, and will sell the ticket, and give you a map etc. You will need to buy a detailed street map to locate your hotel, and then find the nearest tram/metro/bus route to take you there.

From airport to town If you're on a budget and can walk a little with your case, save on a taxi by using public transport. There is an excellent public transport information desk in the arrivals hall. We were staying in the suburbs but the English speaking official was able to give us clear and accurate information for a bus/metro/tram trip to get us to directly outside our hotel. 2 changes - but well integrated, just having to negotiate escalators/ramps or lifts - and all with negligible waiting. If you're going directly to the city centre this is even more straightforward. The public transport system is excellent - the information offices have useful transport maps, and at the airport you can buy the 3 or 7 day integrated ticket which includes your airport/city centre journey as well as all your transport needs for your visit. Though only staying 5 days we bought the 7 day ticket for the equivalent of about £7 sterling - saved ourselves a fortune on a taxi and never had to bother again about a ticket

How to save money... If you like to save money in Prague,Don't stop a taxi on the street. Better to call one then the drivers anre managed and won't take you for a long trip to get some extra money...
