Historical Traveller Reviews of Hilton Prague Hotel
Hilton Prague deserves 5 star rating
from A TripAdvisor Memberwe were very impressed with the Hilton in Prague. The staff were extremely polite and efficient. The food in each of the three restaurants was faultless. The beds were very comfortable and the hotel beautifully designed. The town was within fifteen minutes walk and Prague itself is full of wonderful buildings and interesting historic sites. The only disappointment was on the day we were leaving a group of about twelve British 'lager louts' arrived and by 10.30 am were rowdily enjoying the first of many pints. Apparently they are there because of extremely favourable discounts. A great pity for the other guests.
Great Hotel, Great Facilities, Good location!
from BHXtravelerWe initially were allocated a city view room which sounded good but when we got in the room it was on the only side of the hotel which looks onto a building site, we changed rooms with no problems and had an attrium view room. I would recommend requesting one of these as the attrium is very large and airy with a pleasant view.
The hotel is quite expensive to eat in so i would advise eating out in old town square somewhere as there are loads of really good restaurants at v.reasonable prices.
The facilities at this hotel are superb, we can highly recommend the Cybex pool, jacuzzi, and steam room (steam room /sauna not for shy as there is mixed nudity!) The Spa treatments are also v.good, we had swedish massages.
Location wise is good, not perfect but a short 15min walk from old town square. Tip: dont use the hotel taxis as they are v.expensive compared to local metered ones.
All in all had a great time would highly recommend this hotel.Prague is one of the most beautiful cites in Europe and we will definatly be going back. but if you go in the winter wrap up warm as it was -10 with snow when we was there. Enjoy
We liked the Hilton Prague a lot!!!!
from DRDThe hotel is about a 15 minutes walk to the edge of the touristy section of the old town, not very difficult. We really had a nice time.
Top Class Hotel!
from the_commandanteThe rooms are very big and there are large bathrooms seperate from the toilet. Beds are v comfy, safe is easy to use, room nice and warm, tv is good etc.
The hotel has excellent facilities too - a nice little swimming pool and jacuzzi, sauna and steam room (mixed nudity so don't venture if you're shy!!) and a gym and salon with massagey type people etc. Its got a great bar too often with live music. The hotel is very well presented too, with a magnificant courtyard in its cenre, complete with fountains and palm trees etc. The breakfasts are excellent in the morning too so don't pass them up, they set you up for the whole day!
There are two possible downsides to this hotel. One being that it is just like any other Hilton you would expect - whether you are in the UK, USA, Prague or Afghanistan (if they have one there ... and if it hasn't been destroyed - maybe this is a business opening Mr. Hilton!!) so if you are looking for a typically Prague-ish hotel, this is not the best ... in fact i would highly recommend the Hotel du Prince in the old town square (we went for drinks on the roof there every night, its fantastic with great views so is a must visit for anybody visiting Prague). Secondly, it is a little walk out of the centre. Personally, we quite liked this as it gives you a chance to see the real Prague and there are plenty of shops etc on the 20 min walk, but if you want something on top of the tourist shops and bars or if your legs are made of spaghetti then choose again.
Prague is definately one of the best places I have ever visited, so have fun!
No sleep weekend. Dec 10 to 13, 2004.
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe room we were given was at the front of the building and we were
woken up but the building site opposite at 6 am on Saturday. I did not
seek a room move as I assumed no work would be carried out on Sunday. I was wrong. Woken up again on Sunday at 6 am.
As we were leaving on Monday and would probably be rising at 7.30 am
anyway I foolishly decided not to seek a change of room. I was woken up by the building site at 4.30 am to the sound of a steel grinder from the site.
We had a rare chance to have a short break from our baby daughter and to get a decent night sleep which was spoiled by the choice of hotel.
Our sightseeing was limited by the fact of our being so tired from lack
of sleep.
If you are going in the next few months I highly recomend you refuse to take a room at the front of the building. Aside from the construction work noise there is a busy rood to the front which the hotels double glazing could not cope with.
I agree with a couple of the other reviewers about the location also. There are many other 4 & 5 star hotels nearer or in the central area. It is not very practical to pop back to the hotel during the day.
I will go back to Prague during the summer months as I loved the city but will probably not be staying in the Hilton.
You know where you are with a Hilton
from ScousejetsetterThe location is good - just far enough away from Wensclas Square to be quiet but close enough that it is only a short (10 min) walk. However, the hotel is not that central and if you are planning to do lots of sight seeing and walking then you may want to choose something nearer to the centre/Charles Bridge area.
Overall, the hotel was an all round winner. We may return there when next visiting, however, may go for something more 'authentic'. If it is your first trip to Prague then it is probably a good choice - you know exactly where you are and what you are getting.
Solid choice if you think you might get homesick
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe staff is fully fluent in English and it was really nice to know you could come back to your hotel and hear your own language. I found the staff exceptionally friendly, to the point that I made a penpal of one!
The Hotel is on the water, which is nice, but it is a bit of a hike to the historical part of the city. I enjoyed it because we went by areas that hoped to attract the tourist trade, but were really more 'local' shops. I found some really good bargains at these locations as compared to the old city. And I found these local merchants more eager to please, rather than the eager to exploit that is prevalent in the old city.
best hotel in prague
from A TripAdvisor MemberA safe choice
from A TripAdvisor MemberOverall, a safe choice, but maybe your money would be better spent elsewhere?
Not what i expected!
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe room we chose to stay in was not what I expected! As we left the elevator on our floor we were hit but the awful decorating! Everything is blue! It's enough to give you a head ache! Then there's the five minute walk to your room from the elevator! Inside the room its great for a three star rating, but not a five star!
Prague itself is lovely! We stayed for four nights and found lots to do. When there haggle as much as you can with the taxi drivers! If there price is to high, don't back down! As you'l find another taxi easy enough who'll except the price!
Also if staying in the hilton pack your tea and coffee! The hotel chrages you to use the tea and coffee facilities! I found this a cheek! For three cups of tea and four cups of coffee they charge you around £7. Disgusting! Also don't drink in the hotel and they also try and charge you £4.50 for a beer! Rip off!
My final thought on Hilton Prague is its a great hotel for a three star (because in my opinion thats what it should be rated at) but its not worth the price of a five star!
Top Local Tips for Prague
The Local Food Don't leave without trying the goulash and dumplings..... is it calorie laden - Yes, is it tasty - absolutely. Also the local Czech wine is good value and stands up well against other Eastern European wines with higher reputations. One more thing, ask for the bill...... not the check..... they have heard this joke too many times...
Pick Pockets Watch out - there are lots about. Always carry bags in front of you and keep al pockets zipped up with no valuables easily available.
Watch out for pick pockets There are lots of pick pockets in crowded areas and trams.
