Top Local Tips for Prague

Research your day trip excursions Other than the mint, nothing in Kutna Hora really stood out. Would have gladly traded for a second day in Cesky Krumlov... a town of extraordinary beauty with lots to see. A typical day tour wastes 6 - 7 hours getting there and back leaving only 2-3 hours for a quick tour of the castle and town. Consider an overnight stay! Watch out on Konopiste and Karlstejn castle excursions; the half day tour of each means you'll get the abbreviated tour of Konopiste... a beautiful castle of which I wish I could have taken the full tour. The tourbooks are right on Karlstejn.. nothing worth seeing on the inside (except for the chapel which I discovered upon arrival was not included in the tour). I felt it was not worth the time or cost. Make the most of your trip... research where you want to go and carefully evaluate the trade-offs since you'll lose a lot of valuable time on the road if you take excursions outside of Prague (I will say that the countryside is beautiful)

pedalo Hire a 4 seater yellow pedalo and mess about on the river under Charles bridge - at 100 k for half an hour its great fun.

Getting around Buy a weekly tram pass 280Cz £6-validate it as quickly as possible on entering first tram as the inspectors are in plain clothes and come up beside you and flash a badge -Don't stay at the Hotel Evropa in Wenceslas Square -use the CEDAZ shuttle bewween airport & Republican Sq 120Cz.
