The Hotel Sumava looks picturesque on the website, and so it is. Unfortunately the château next door was under repair and when we got there it looked more like a builders yard ! The hotel staff were friendly but my Czech isn't wonderful and no one there spoke English. We were told that parking would be a problem and that our motorcycles must not be left on the street outside. I had to ride the bikes up a plank into a store room, not easy with large fully laden machines… Our room was clean, a little basic, but fine, and the view across the village square with the fine old church opposite was very good. The hotel appeared short staffed in the evening with just a young girl and boy in evidence. I ordered a meal that was so so, nothing to write home about in a country where the food can be very good indeed. My wife noticed spaghetti bolognaise on the menu, and decided she'd like that. Big mistake. She received tinned spaghetti bolognaise and it was a bongo bongo version, not even Heinz ! Pretty nasty and not edible, just a mush really. The beer and the coffee were fine, but dinner might be best taken elsewhere… In contrast, breakfast was pretty good. A good choice, good table service and the breakfast bar was bright and cheerful. Would I go again ? Maybe, but I'd skip dinner.
