Platinum - no way!!
from GoughieThe pool area is good and there are plenty of sunbeds. The food in the restaurant is OK but if you want an a la carte meal served in a better part of the restaurant then you had to pay quite a bit more for this. You need to get into dinner quite early otherwise all the best goes and this doesn't appear to be replaced and eventhough the restaurant it supposed to stay open until 10.00pm everything starts disappearing around 9ish.
The location is also disappointing being quite a few miles outside Paphos so if you suffer with walking difficulties please find a different hotel to stay at. There are also quite a few weddings held at this hotel - sometimes up to 4 a day and apparently they are fully booked until November next year! This means that there are large groups staying. Whilst I love a wedding, this can sometimes be frustrating when the bars are taken over by rowdy groups, especially when you are just looking for a quiet drink.
This hotel isn't Platinum standard by any stretch of the imagination.
excellent hotel
from foxemmaAnimation team also excellent and great fun.
Food excellent choice and im really fussy. Always salad bar, carvery, a show cooking stir fry dish, and about 5 different choices as well.also soup, bread loads of desserts, take expandable waist trousers and cheese and biscuits and fruit.
Entertainment a bit for the over 50's but apparently in the summer there are beach party type stuff for the 20-30 somehings. It was too cold in the evening for this in oct/nov when we went.
it is a bit in the sticks, no where to walk at night but bus stop right outside with buses into paphos every 15 mins. Only cost 70 cents about 90p - 10 minute ride
definately recommend it
and do the Egprt fday trip! Long day but so woth it!
Flight to Cairo, pyramids, sphynx, cairo museum with tutankarmens treasures, crusie on nile, lunch at 5 star meridian, tour of cairo and also a papryus factory,
BRILLIANT DAY 199 cyprus pounds, about £240 but saves me going to Egypt for a holiday and an experience of a lifetime. if you do ONE TRIP this is it, budget for it before you go
Spectacular sunsets
from Silverfox56Our room was very comfortable, and we were pleasantly surprised to find beach towels arranged on our king size bed in the shape of a swan. We also received a complimentary basket of fruit, and a half bottle of wine. We were given a terrace instead of a balcony and this had a great view overlooking the sea which gave us a magnificent view of a fantastic sunset.
The staff at the hotel are friendly and attentive and always had a smile for everyone.
The food was buffet style, very varied (dinner), and always quite tasty.
The outdoor pool was not used very much during our stay because unfortunately the weather wasn't always to kind to us, but i imagine it would be very popular during high season. The hotel has its own beach area where there are plenty of sunbeds available.
The hotel also boasts its own chapel in the grounds where weddings are catered for, and indeed we saw 3 of them this week (2 in one day).
The hotel is in a quiet location about 10/15mins bus ride into town or the harbour.
Despite the mostly poor weather, we still thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to return there.
Lovely Food, but poor bathrooms
from SteveTTt let first impressions put you off!
from A TripAdvisor MemberIt is true that the hotel/apartments are not in Paphos itself but we considered this to be a bonus! The bus runs every 15 minutes from the main road which is just a short walk from the accomodation. There are some nice restaurants local to the hotel, in particular Caravelle which is lovely for a meal or a drink in their upstairs bar. If you fancy venturing into Paphos itself you will be there in a matter of minutes.
This was our first visit to Cyprus and we were very impressed with the friendly cypriots and the standard of the accomodation.
You are able to share the facilities of the St George Hotel and there are many places on site to have a drink or a snack/meal. There is a Pizza Express on site where you can eat or takeaway and eat on the beach or in your apartment.
We would not hesitate to recommend the apartments or hotel to all.
somewhat off the beaten track
from A TripAdvisor MemberHaving said that, the hotel complex was beautifully presented in the public area, but the apartments left a lot to be desired. The seating was very uncomfortable (As were the beds) and there was very little in the way of cooking utensils (no toaster).
The one thing that you couldn`t fault was the cleaning and maid service. We`d barely dampened towels but they were changed daily as was the bed linen, and you were given large beach towels to use in the spacious sunbathing areas.
It`s very quiet overall...unless you`re near one of the many air-condition generators. (Its as if a swarm of very angry bluebottles were around!). Also its a bit off the beaten track if you want any sort of nightlife. But El Paso`s just up the road by the Laura Hotel, is extremely nice with lovely little Bengali man who can`t stop smiling.
We`d go back certainly but perhaps just for 1 week as 14 nights going into Paphos(we didn`t enjoy the hotel entertainment) gets a bit pricey. Cyprus overall is still a very desirable place to visit and the people are a joy.Jo
Great stay
from tripadvisfanWe flew with Thomson direct to Paphos and it has to be said you must be prepared for a wait going both ways....the airport is military so be ready for a hot and sticky wait to collect bags or check in. Transfers however were very efficient.
Now on to the main points....
Hotel is situated about 15 mins from the main town...you can catch the bus for about a 80cents (intersting ride) or expect to pay about £5 for a taxi to the harbour (driving can be a bit hairy so be prepared). Nice place to visit but not a huge amount going on.
The staff cannot do enough to help in fact you could as far to say that at some points they could be annoying because they were always asking if we needed anything. All speak good English as well.
Lovely arrival - porters ready to take bags to rooms and complimentary drinks on offer.
I have read reviews that people said the food was cold and lacked variety...we are very fussy about food and would say that this was not the case.....main dinner restaurant was buffet style therefore there were some similar dishes on offer to fit in with that style of dining. However, there was always a range of salads on offer, a mixture of international and British dishes, soup, show cooking on a griddle and a SUPERB CARVERY!! Food was never really piping hot as it is buffet style so food naturally loses heat - our advice is have dinner early to get the freshest selection. Sitting on the balcony eating is fantastic with the sunset.OK not all food was great - but just like all restaurants some things on the menu just aren’t to everybody's taste. Just leave it on your plate - waiters clear so quickly - and go and get something else. Breakfast has a huge variety but is the same each day. Cereals, pancakes, danishes, full english, fruit juices, coffees.
Hotel was always spotlessly clean, very cool and quiet. Rooms are basic but comfortable, lovely size beds and just the right amount of furniture. Efficient maid service made sure room was always spotless on return from the pool
The pool area was clean and there were always sunbeds available at the pool and beach. People do tend to put towels down and hold sunbeds without arriving for ages - so again best advice is to get in early to get a good spot. Staff at pool bar are friendly and efficient walking around taking orders and bringing them to you.
Entertainment was not great, just average (can’t fault the effort though) if you want to be involved with cabaret type entertainment the outside night activities stage is the place for you (hypnotists, bingo etc)
If that is not really appealing to you (which it wasnt really for us) you can go inside to the relaxing Avakas bar to sit in comfy, cool surroundings and listen to the toned down music on the piano.
Plenty of activities on offer in the day if you want to join in....if not just sttay and relax the staff know when not to ask.
MAIN TIP: Don't tip any of the staff unless they do something superb not that they are not good but we found out that every single price you pay that is extra on your holiday includes VAT 17.5%, Service charge 10% and Tourist charge 3%. So include all these things and that means prices are not that expensive. Maximum lunch at the pool bar is £4.50.
If you visit this hotel...you will not be disappointed....it will provide a fantastic holiday!!
Hello Campers
from mariuciaA First Class Hotel full of charming staff and management who can't do enough for you and do it all with a smile, nothing is too much trouble for them. Large Gardens looking out to sea with plenty of sunbeds with friendly bar staff moving around you all day taking orders for drinks and snacks which are brought direct to your sunbed, a perfect way to relax.
BUT!..... Bingo? and Kareoki nights? for us this type of entertaiment let the stardard of this hotel slip a little.
One more gripe... waiter service or even part waiter service at dinner would have been nice.

the basillica Go behind Debenhams into the car parking area. There is a pathway off to the left, follow this 75 metres and you will find the basillica site ijncluding St Pauls pillar. Opposite the gates to the site is a small cafe run by the church ( which does english services) the cafe provides adequate beverages and some excellent home made cakes.
Don't be ripped off Taxi's are everywhere in Paphos offering you lifts all the time. Make sure that you chat to the driver like you've known them for years, or like you've been coming to Paphos for years. Taxi's from the St George to the Harbour should be between 4 and 5 pounds, so make sure you ask the drive rhow much it will be before you get in!
Buses The buses in Paphos are excellent. From the St George Hotel you walk to the main road and the buses go into upper Paphos and the harbour every 10/15 minutes. These are no. 10 and no. 15. On the way back they then go to Coral Bay which is the terminus. The charge is 80 cents wherever you want to go. The drivers will give you change if you give them a Cyprus pound but obviously prefer the correct change.
