Could do with some paint!
from A TripAdvisor MemberBUT
It could do with a few tins of Dulux!
There are parts of the hotel and need attention, nothing major, just a new coat of paint thats all. Our room was clean and tidy.
I would'nt think twice coming here it is still a very nice place but they do need to plan a refurb.
Really disappointed.
from A TripAdvisor MemberOur accommodation, Room 242, was in need of upgrading and very disappointing. we had requested a seview room but were placed in a side sea view which had been upgraded from a mountain view. This was cheaper but we had requested a seaview when booking.
The room was adequate but extremely tired. The only thing that can be said is that it was extremely clean and cared for by the housekeeping staff. We decided not to move to an alternative hotel or change our later booking because of the hassle of trying to find somewhere.
On our return for the second stay, a week later, we were placed in Bungalow 9. Absolutely grotty. We stayed the first night and finally got to sleep when the outdoor entertainment finished at 12.30 a.m. It was as if the group were in the bedroom!
At 7.30 a.m. we requested to see the manager and were finally able to see him at 1.30 p.m. We were sat in reception and when he arrived we weren't informed that he was the manager. Then he went and hid in his office and avoided the situation until we started becoming irate.
We also met a couple who had taken holidays at this hotel for ten years and they were put into a room that needed maintenance and was in a complete mess.
The reason appeared to be that customers were being put into inferior rooms because there was a large party of Russians who completely filled the hotel.
We were eventually moved to a lovely mountain view room, Room 1163, in the Cypria Bay but lost most of one day of our holiday in the consequence.
I don't know how the Cypriot Tourist Board awards their star system but 4 stars the Cyopria Maris certainly isn't!
s best!
from A TripAdvisor MemberOn both occasions, we found the hotel, staff, and facilities to be second to none.
This is a 'low key' four star hotel, worthy of the Riu reputation.
If you are looking for a quiet, well maintained hotel in Cyprus, this is the one to choose. The sea view rooms offer fabulous views over the palm lined gardens and pool to the sea.
We chose the half-board option both times, and the choices of food on offer were fabulous.
During the summer months, breakfast can be taken in the restaurant, or outside on the terrace.
The hotel has it's own private beach, from where you can walk along the coast to Paphos harbour, which takes about 25 minutes, alternatively, local buses or taxi's can be found outside the reception.
Evening entertainment is low key, usualy a solo artist or duo, which on each visit, we have found to be very good.
We will certainly be staying again.
Excellent
from mn3We were not disappointed, the swim up pool bar was always busy but very pleasant and the whole complex was very attractive, the pool was especially lovely.
The food was of a good standard, lunch was particularly good. Food was on offer from breakfast till bedtime as was water.
The evening entertainment was okay and we often walked into town. There are some nice bars along the way and it was about a 20-25 min walk.
All staff were lovely and very helpful. The water park and mini golf are on the doorstep.
I would recommend this hotel.
A Great Relaxing holiday
from LetzSeaA Group of six of us - Myself, my wife (early 30's), brother in law and his wife(early 30's), father and mother in law(late 50's). This was a family holiday. We all get along well - however we wanted to ensure that there was enough to do on our own as well as together. Even the Pope and Mother Theresa would bug each other if cooped up in a hotel for a week.
We travelled with Thomson
I have read many of the previous reviews - especially the negative comments (as you do). Some I disagree with. Some I can see where people are coming from
The hotel:
Reception area - Large are airy. The decor is a little dark with lots of dark wood and medievil (?) decorations - Swords, a suit of armour etc. There is a large seating are in reception. Also, a seating area near to the 'cabaret' stage. Its not the bright marble, glass and mirrors that you get in many hotels, but is perfectly fine.
The hotel has a very pleasant outdoor pool. (See pic 'pool and hotel')There are lots of sunbeds and chairs available - both around the pool and in the adjacent grassed area There is also an indoor pool this is a very pleasant area (see pic 'indoor pool')
Rooms:
The rooms are very comfortable - probably a little better than many spanish hotels of a similar star rating. Table and chiars on balcony. The shape of the hotel seems to be a kind of offset ' Y ' shape. Therefore if you want a dea view, you need to be specific in you booking. Some rooms have a partial sea view. some rooms have no sea view. Rooms are clean and feshly decorated. I feel at this point I need to mention the 'towel sculptures' as mentioned in some of the previous reviews. This is a really nice touch. In fact at some times in the week the hotel puts on ' towel sculpture' classes. (See pic 'hotel room')
Food:
Food was very nice. Buffet style. A choice of soup. A very wide range of salads and 'colds'. A choice of 4/5 main courses with appropriate accompaniments. Some of the main courses were cooked there on the spot - e.g. steaks were sizzling away in the corner.
Deserts - good choice, and replacements bought out promptly when they had run out. Always lots of bread. A very nice atmosphere in the restaurant - no stampede when new deserts were bought out. Very calm with lots of space. I'd challenge even the fussiest eater not to find something they liked. Much of the food is 'english style' with some local variation on some dishes.
Location.
About 30 mins walk from paphos harbour. The local bus is regular from outside the hotel for a small charge. There is a small cafe, restaurant and souvenier shop opposite the hotel.
5/10 mins walk down the road is a larger group of shops which serve the many hotels in the area. Lots of restaurants, shops etc.
In many resorts in Europe there is a promenade or road between the beachfront hotels and the beach. This is not the case for the hotels along this strip. For me, this was one of the nicest things about the hotel - its setting within its grounds. The pool area led down to a lovely grassed area with palm trees which in turn led down to the beach. (see pics 'from hotel to beach' and from beach to hotel').Jet Ski's were available for hire. In summer time there may be more activities on offer?
There is a poolside bar which also sells some sandwiches and food. The whole set up takes the stress out of the 'beach thing'. The beach is close - key can be left at reception so its not lost - No sand in food as it can be charged to the room. No need for large beachbags. The hotel even lets you use their towels on the beach. There are boarded walkways across the beach to stop the 'sand between you toes' scenario.
On the beach is a little jetty which makes a small rock pool safe swiming area for those who are not old enough or confident enough to swim in the sea (See pic 'Jetty')
Entertainment.
- This hotel does not have a kids club. For me this is great. Its the first thing I look at in the brochure. The sister hotel next door - Cypria Bay seems to have more activities for kids.
There is a full time ents organisor (plus others?)for this and the sister hotel. Its all generally low key. If you want to get involved thats fine, if not, theres no pressure. Activities include - boules, darts, bingo etc
There is no dance hall at this hotel. The basement of the sister hotel provides the disco.
Excursions:
We decided not to hire a people carrier - it was easier to let other people do the work.
- Troodos Mts and the Keikos monastary. A bus trip with Thomson. The mountains are beautiful - as is the monastary
- Nicosia - An interesting place. Bus trip with thomson
- Valley of the Tombs - Caught a local bus (20mins) to this place - well worth a visit.
- Mosaics of paphos - This is very near to the harbour. Again, well worth a visit.
Summary:
A hotel where it is very easy to relax. Far enough out of the centre to be quite and peaceful, but close enough to enjoy its attractions. I am very keen to return.
Wonderful Trip - ignore bad reports!
from sasa12343The food here is amazing - all the hot food is cooked infront of you and there is so much choice! It caters for those who wish to experiment with tradditional greek foods and then it also does the usual. There is so much choice - and it was delicious!
the staff there will help you - with anything aslong as you your not rude to then - thats standard! They are not beneath you treat them with respect for goodness sake - i wouldnt help you if you were rude to me!
pool was lovely and you could use the sister hotel next door with swim up bar etc.
It has a lovely jetty - honestly its just divine.
You wont go wrong at this hotel trust me!
Normal rooms are perfect and spacious, everything is very clean - actually spotless!
the town is about a 20 min walk - to the harbour. Night life about the same distance! Evening entertainment was nice - nothing amazing but was relaxing and very enjoyable!
all we hoped for
from Nelehenworbfor a week!!
from A TripAdvisor MemberWeather a little mixed - but 4 days perfect sunshine lying by the pool was bliss!! Main swimming pool v v clean but deep: parents need to keep an eye on young children, though kiddies pool excellent. Kiddies club at Cypria Bay next door v good, as was the indoor pool (much better than the Maris's which was freezing)
Wine bar across the road v welcoming for evening drinks for all the family: bistro attached ok, but buffet only on Sundays. Having arrived with no great expectations for restaurants in the locality, pleasantly surprised to find 5-6 good eateries, reasonably priced, within a 5-10 min walk, including Greek (recommend the meze), Italian (Cavallini - excellent / need to book 24 hrs ahead though), French, Indian, Chinese and also the Rib Shack (food v v good, though largely spoiled by appallingly slow service)
Would definitely recommend hotel for a short break on a b+b basis - we flew with Thomson's - flight ok but don't pay the £40 they charge for taxi t/f - you can get it for £15 when you arrive
Finally, although Cyprus is in EU they don't yet use Euro's as we found to our cost - maybe remiss of us but you'll need Cypriot £'s!!!!
Beautiful setting take flat shoes (ladies!!)
from crazychicThe beach in front of the hotel has a watersports centre and the sea is lovely and clear.
We just stayed bed and breakfast and there was always plenty of choice and plenty of it too.
The gym was the only disapointment so I stuck to swimming - just a few weights really.
The hotel was really helpful when it came to keeping our room on as our flight wasn't until 3am they let us keep our room till 10pm (small charge) but it meant we had a relaxed last day in the sun.
Really nice that you can share facilities of Cypria Bay next door too - although at night you need to walk round the front as unless you can run the gauntlet (very ferocious water sprays) you'd be drenched walking through the gardens.
Only small disadvantage is distance into main part of Paphos but the bus is cheap 70 cents and regular upto 11 pm. Taxis comparable to England.
Would definitely recommend this hotel and ensure you get at least a partial sea view - it's lovely.
Lovely hotel
from Odell68Top Local Tips for Paphos
Seven St Georges - A MUST Ask the reception of your hotel to book you a cab, and a table at Seven St Georges. Wonderful little Meze resturant, weve eaten there every time we have visited Paphos... The guy, George, is very friendly, the cooking is all home made and tastes great. Home made wine, bread and dishes with a small variance on the menu every night makes this a good place to experience authentic food. If your a fussy eater i wouldnt recommend this as its just one menu, but with lots of little things to try....
Killer beach buggies. We being under 25 were unable to rent a car on the island so we decided that on our last day we would rent a beach buggy. This cost more than a car but as it was our last day we fancied splashing out. We decided to drive down to Coral Bay and broke down on our way. The buggy was randomly cutting out. We rang the hire company who sent a young boy to come and fix the problem. He said everything was fine and we continued. On our way back we were driving 50kph and suddenly the engine cut out. We rang the company again. They came out fiddled for a few minutes and insisted it was fine to drive back. On the way it started to make a popping noise. We refused to continue as it obviously wasn't safe. To their credit the company sent a car to bring us back to our hotel. After huge arguments about our safety they gave us half our money back. However, we had no apology, our plans were ruined and the unsafe buggy was back out for others to rent the next day.
Min 3 day hire When hiring a vehicle in Cyprus, the minimum time you can have it for is 3 days
