This was our third visit to Queens Bay Hotel but first time we had been in the winter, our normal time of going is of course in the summer time. Obviously the hotel has a different feel in the winter and the clients are more towards long stays and a little bit older but we expected this. Whilst of course the hotel isn't as busy as it is in the summer we were surprised at the number of clients here, which gave to a nice atmosphere most nights in the bar and restaurant as most clients stayed in the hotel in the evenings.

The weather as we expected was a mixed bag whilst we had 3 glorious days when we first arrived after that we had some rain and a bit of wind for a few days but its winter here to and we had to expect that, but no were near as cold as the UK!

Of course as we are repeat clients we love the hotel otherwise we wouldn't keep going back year after year. What we like most at Queens Bay Hotel is that you are not just a number it's a very friendly hotel and by the second time you go back you are always greeted with welcome back or in our case we get welcome home! This is just what it is like for us returning, home from home. We know what to expect, good friendly service from the staff good food, nice comfortable room and value for money. The staff are very hard working and are a credit to the hotel we know that many of them have been with the hotel from when it opened.

Each year we go back there is always some improvement made. This time they have started to replace the carpet in the rooms with laminate flooring, which looks very nice and makes the room look bigger. We like to see this as it shows that the hotel takes a pride in their business and as clients we enjoy the benefits of the improvements.
Over all we would recommend this hotel without reservation we hope that we will be able to continue our visits to Queens Bay Hotel for many years to come.

Very Relaxing

19th jan 2006 Queens Bay Hotel
We have just returned from the Queens bay hotel and I have to say we had a fantastic time everything was just spot on. We paid £21 to up grade to a sea view room and it was worth every penny for the sunsets alone.Food in the hotel had great variety and never failed to impress, and the local wine list was great and had some excelent guidance from Leo and George who are both friendly and efficient. The games programme was very enjoyable and run by Khaled who has a wicked sense of humour. The entertainment in the evenings was varied and has to appeal to a wide variety of people so it could be a bit bland. The rooms were kept very clean and tidy. The only down side of the hotel is it's location, it's a bit isolated but only 80c on the bus to downtown Paphos or £4.80 in a taxi I would thoroughly recommend a holiday to the Queens bay hotel htey make you feel like one of the family.

Paphos in December

from A TripAdvisor Member
We booked this holiday with Thomsons 4 days before flying and knew we were going to one of three hotels. We read all the comments for the three and decided we did not want the Queens Bay. Of course that was the one we got and our hearts sank. We felt a bit better after a meal and a good nights sleep. What an super holiday we had! All the staff were excellent and very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Everywhere was spotless and gleaming. The food was very tasty with enough choice and we did not get sick of it.
The room smelled a bit smokey so we paid a small amount extra and got the best room in the Hotel with a super seaview and sun from morning till night and it was worth every penny. There was plenty going on in the Hotel and it was the first time in Cyprus that we didn't book a car. It was easy to get to Paphos on a Bus.
The Hotel beach was only small but the sea was lovely and still warm in December when it was snowing at home. If you don't like the sea then the indoor pool was OK. The gardens were spacious and you could always find a quiet spot.
We would have liked a fridge in the room and also a lesson on how to use the ice cream scoop!
I am not saying which room we had because it won't be long before we are back!

We wanted a week to relax and spend time with our very young daughter (under 18 months) and had a fantastic time. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the staff friendly and efficent and the facilities better than we expected. A child's pool, main pool and indoor one alswell as the small beach, all kept in good condition, food was a varied buffet with good standard of choice and tastes. Mmany of the other customers were on return trips. I have always thought that the world is too small to go to the same place twice, but would definately visit again - had a superb break, close to town and good bus service. The staff really were the best I have come across. Thanks to the hotel for a wonderful time.

Thanks a great time

My boyfriend and I have just had a week at Queens Bay hotel in Paphos.Whilst the brochure says its a 3 star hotel we believed this to be an understatement. We have been in Cyprus before and stayed in 4 star accomodation and QBH was far superior to where we had been before. We had a great week!! ok the weather wasnt brilliant but hey this is winter in Cyprus too, so we took each day as it came. The hotel is a little bit out of town about 10-15 mins by car/taxi but only about a 20 min bus ride as the hotel is on the main bus route which was great. In saying that its not like we went in to town a great deal of a night. We tried a couple of nights out but found ourselves saying lets get back to the hotel. They had entertainment every night nothing exceptional middle of the road kind of music but we just enjoyed the atmosphere really. The clients were lovely alot of repeat clients one couple were staying for 3 months!! and it seems that most stay for a long time in the winter another couple for 3 weeks. What we noticed was that the management got involved with alot of the activities which we had never seen before in a hotel. For example the casino night which was great fun it turns out the 2 dealers were the hotel owners!! one of the repeat clients put me straight on that, as everyone seemed to know them on first name terms. Plus we went on a tour of the hotel and they had different demonstrations through out the week which were great had a go at the Zivania making/testing which certainly warms the parts!!!There was also daily activities during the day like french boules which we didnt take part in but it looked like good fun. The rooms were basic but very clean and comfortable, would recommend the Sea View rooms for sure, what beatiful views and the sunsets were superb. The food was lovely buffet style with something for all tastes. We even found the bar prices reasonable considering it was a hotel, as I say we know from our previous stay in another hotel in Cyprus, plus some of the bars in town were very expensive unless you went to the smaller quieter bars. Overall we had a great stay at QBH we couldnt fault it of course its all down to what you want from your holiday but we are simple people with simple tastes and we had a fun and enjoyable time. Thank you

an adequate 3* with pleasant staff

from philipellis
We stayed in the hotel as part of an allocation on arrival package in August. Unfortunately, although generally clean and adequate, the hotels' facilities are much more consistent with a 3* hotel (which is its official ranking) than the 4* rating given to it by the tour operator.

The rooms are small, though clean, and the tiny balconies are the smallest I've ever seen in any hotel anywhere.

The breakfast and evening meal buffets were pretty good, although by day 4 or 5 of our 1 week stay we were getting a little bored with both.

The hotel is totally isolated, and there are no pubs, bars or restaurants within an easy walk. The pool is basic but just about OK, and the "beach" can only host a dozen people in comfort!!

The hotel is clean, and the staff helpful, polite and attentive. It is an adequate 3*, which is all it claims to be.

On our return to the UK, we took action against our travel agent for hosting us at the Queen's Bay instead of one of the true 4* hotels we were originally promised, and we won our case in full in October.

We Loved It

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just returned from Queens Bay having a great time and a lovely holiday. It was our first visit to the hotel and to cyprus. Cyprus is a lovely country and we we managed to see quite alot of the island while there. The hotel was lovely and made our holiday. We have never been to a hotel where we found so many clients that had been there before, some had been coming here since the hotel opened, but as first timers we were made very welcome. With regards to the hotel it is just outside Paphos so if you want bar/club life you are a little out of the way here and wouldnt be suitable. The hotel is very much for middle age couples up to retired couples while we were there we didnt see many children either so I dont think its really that suitable for children. There was plenty going on day and evening entertainment, we went on a tour of the hotel, we got to see the all the bits you dont normally see on a daily basis we were very impressed with how clean everywhere was, including our room, spotless. The staff are very friendly and very helpful and again make you feel very welcome. The hotel when we were there was very busy but still nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was lovely too lots of choice something for all tastes even for a pickie eater like myself. What we loved the most was the location and the sunsets of an evening from the bar veranda were something else, I doubt most 5 star hotels on the island have these kind of views. Over all I would recommend this hotel to couples who want a relaxing holiday without disco and karioki, good food, good company with friendly and efficient service. We will be back and we can then tell other clients that we have been here before.

overall a good holiday

We had booked a half board selcetion deal with Thompson, and was guarenteed a 4* hotel. However this is definitely a 3*, but rated 4T by Thompson. The majority of the guests were over 60 when we arrived- making us the ONLY young couple in sight. At least 70% of the guests were return visitors, who completely loved the place! Unfortunately not an opinion we totally shared (we wouldn't go back). The food at breakfast is very basic. Evening meal was not good at all, which was probably not helped by the fact we don't eat meat. The food was not always hot, same salads every night and nothing on the buffet seemed to go together. Luckily were were able to swop our dinner for lunch, which was an al a carte menu and of much better quality. Average cost of luch would normally be approx £5. We ate out most nights, mainly in Paphos. Could recommend Rose Corner Resturant and our best meal was at a Chinese called Chloe's, both in Paphos on the main road. Wouldn't recommed the Amozon resturant though which is a short walk from the hotel- very short staffed (twice) and not good quality ( more like a scene from Faulty Towers).

The hotel itself is quite good. All staff friendly. Rooms are basic, but generally clean. We moved rooms early on as we were allocated a room above the main entrance- very noisy. Upgaraded to a sea view which was worth doing. Found out that if you do it there it costs half the price of upgrading when you book. Everything else you had to pay for, i.e, fridge was £2 a day, safety deposit box was £15 for the 2 weeks. Not things that you would have to pay extra for in a 4*. Entertainment was mainly live music at 8pm. Was ok, but mainly appealed to the older guests. We would recommend bar street as mentioned in other reports.

They have one main pool and an indoor ( which is not heated). Both clean and pleasant. The sun bed situation was quite amuzing. The regular guests were very protective over their spots. They sit in the same place every year, and god forbid if you take their spot by mistake. Need to get out early if you want a lounger as people reserve them- which the hotel does try to prevent.

Overall, we would certainly go back to Paphos, but not to this hotel.

Me my wife an my 12yr old son have just retuned from our 2 week holiday in the Queensbay Hotel this is our 4th visit to the hotel and it just gets better every year the rooms are modern and spacious and the sea views are stunning especialy the sunsets I would strongly recomend a sea view room the rooms are cleaned on a daily basis and all towells are changed daily . A presentation pack is in your room on arrival and a flask of iced water is put in your room dailyThis hotel is down as a 3* hotel but in my mind this definately of 4* quality
They have a entertainer who organisers daily events for all ages from archery to French boules also water basket ball coffee making and wine tasting
There are 2 swiming pools one indoor and a big outdoor pool with excellent sunbed facilities if the beach is your thing there is a tiny inlet 2mins walk from the hotel and is excellent for snorkling there is a gymnasium and pool and snooker tables but for those people who like to watch football I would recommend other bars
The food is an absolute cullenry delight and made up of hot and cold buffet with soups and deserts that are outstanding they also have a carvery 3 nigts per week the staff in the hotel are very attentative and accomadating and are always welcoming you with a smile and a chat.
Entertainment of a night is varied and relaxed. I would recomend this hotel to anyone to either use as a base to explore the island or just to put up your feet and relax
I actually invested in a 4 wheel drive while I was there and would recomend you to look on the tomb of the kings road to pick up the best bargain
All I can end with is carry on the Queensbay Hotel another great holiday oh by the way I'm going back in October

Wonderful holiday

We travelled to Paphos in July this year and stayed at the Queens Bay Hotel. The hotel itself is suberb and the waiters extremely friendly. We stayed in a room with a sea view which is definetly worth paying extra for. The rooms were cleaned daily with fresh towels and sheets and also jugs of cold water were left in the room. The hotel however does seem to be more popular with older couples and is not really for families with children. It was about 5-6 miles from the busy Paphos centre but buses run every 15 minutes or so from the top of the road. The last bus back from Paphos is 11pm so every night we did have to catch a taxi, costing between 6 - 8 Cyprus pounds. The hotel does have a very small private beach but most of the coast line is rock. The nearest beach is at Coral Bay, again a 15 minute bus ride away but watch out for the time share people.

The buffet style restaurant was very well manned by the helpful waiters. But be warned men must wear long trousers!! (be it jeans, trousers or track suit bottoms) but not 3/4 length. It took my partner 4 hours of walking round Paphos centre before he was able to find a shop which sold long trousers. He then luckily found good old Next where he purchased a pair of Jeans.

We went half board and a few days ate lunch in the hotel instead of dinner so that we could go into Paphos centre and try out the many different Restaurants. For a really good steak try the Diane Steak House situated by the Aquarium (one of the best steaks I have ever eatten). The Players Lounge Bar made a great local with all the sport, friendly staff and cheap beer (just up from McDonalds). Bar Street is where we spent each night with many bars and clubs and you don't get ripped off!!

All in all lovely holiday, brill weather but if we went back would stay nearer the resort centre to cut down on taxi fares nothing against Queens Bay Hotel as it was a lovely hotel, clean with friendly staff.

Top Local Tips for Paphos

Latchi Visit Latchi on the west of the island. A good day out.

Cyprus in winter Paphos should be considered for a winter break as the weather is great. If you have the ability to stay for the whole winter as many retired people do then you will have good weather for the majority of your stay.

Kourion Ampitheatre Visit the Ampitheatre (Kourion) on the road to Limassol, a really interesting place to go for £1 each!!
