Main problem was air condition. In addition to these things, the room was dirty.

I wouldn't recommend the hotel as there are so many better options available.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Mayfair Hotel
Too far from the front
from scantcomplainerOn the plus side the food was good and there was some entertainment on every evening and the two swimming pools were clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. However I would not use this hotel again simply because of its location, it is too far from where most people want to go. There are plenty of excellent hotels near the front on the east side of Paphos,it also has to be said that Paphos has very little beach most of its shoreline is rocky, another minus.
nice place would go back
from Peter1962First the food: 8 out of 10 different every night often excellent although let down by a couple of nights on the whole very good
rooms: decent, clean nothing spectacular but nice and comfortable
Staff pleasant and friendly with a couple of exceptions
entertainment: The younger members of the team were excellent full of smiles and energy. let down only by the older member of the team who just seemed tired and nonchalent
Overall: Highly enjoyable holiday would stay there again.
Great Hotel
from Snowey1It had two lovely pools, great entertainment. Bingo, Karaoke, kids games, disco's, etc.
It was a 10 min walk from the bars, but I enjoyed the walk.
There was a few nice restaurants local. The hospitality of the Black Eagle was very good, and the food was gorgeous.
For the money this is a very good 3 star hotel. The rooms are very big and clean.
How far is too far?
from Vogon64The location of this Hotel seems to be an issue for some, but it all depends on your requirements...
There is a large supermarket just behind the hotel (5 minutes away) making it perfect for popping in to get breakfast supplies if like us you prefer not to be tied to Hotel times (although you can pay for breakfast on a day-day basis if you wish to). Being 20 minutes from town means that you don't have to cope with the noise in the busy and narrow streets but it does mean you need alternative transport if you want to get out and about.
If you are looking for a chill out holiday I think this is ideal.
Our typical day consists of:
Breakfast by the pool (as long as you are not too obvious no-one complained about our bringing food down from the apartment), followed by a good 6 hours of lazing around while the kids played in the pool, or volleyball etc.
The pool bar can be used to buy drinks and excellent snacks during the day although as you can book these to the room rather than paying cash you need to keep an eye on your visits if you are on a budget!
When the sun goes down (around 4:30-5:00pm at the end of October) back to the room for a shower and change then a leisurely stroll down into Paphos for the evening.
The walk does take around 15-20 minutes but for a large part of that you are passing various sports bars which are very welcoming for adults and kids. Ideal to pop in and have a drink and catch up on the football results and games (you get to see many premiership games that are not available in the UK).
When you can drag yourself away there are many eating places... I found a brilliant Italian, I would also echo the comments on the Chinese down by the front and there is even a fish and chip shop where you can find all of the Ex-pats going to get their taste from home. There are also some good Greek restaurants near the harbour which are worth a visit.
So, if you want a holiday where you can relax and do nothing much, but still get a bit of exercise walking into town to appease your conscience then I think this Hotel is great.
Too Far Away
from caralamWe arrived at 1600 hrs so we could see everything that was around the hotel, not much was our first thought.
We got to the hotel reception and they upgraded us straight away to bed & breakfast, why i don't know! we ended up with a pool view (which we asked for when we booked it 15 months previous) we were supposed to have full kitchen facilities but all we got was a fridge and a kettle. Which didn't bother us because we go out for our meals, as long as i get a fridge for our water that is fine.
We travelled with a large group but we were all placed at different locations within the hotel.
After a week i asked to be moved because i had the family from hell next door, with the father shouting at and hitting his wife and kids 24/7.
We were moved without any problems but nothing was said to the bloke next door about the noise and everybody i spoke to in the hotel were complaining about him.
Long walk to the harbour especially with a 4yr old whose legs are always tired from swimming in the pool, 20 mins there & 20 mins back.
Try the Black Eagle for dinner, the Full Moon for breakfast and sunday lunch also 1 of our party had food in the hotel and said it was nice so give that a try too.
Don't believe what you read about Fat Mama's its crap, OVER PRICED, ATTITUED OF SOME OF THE STAFF WAS APPALLING AND MY BURGER WAS RAW. Don't bother waiting to get in if their's a queue IT'S NOT THAT GOOD!
Make sure you go to the waterpark and once you've got your ring don't give it anyone untill you've been on everything at least twice.
YOU MUST go to CHLOE'S chinese restaurant on the harbour it is absolutly fantastic and not to be missed. We wouldn't go back to this hotel its too far away from the good things about paphos.
When going for a drink in the hotel go to the bar yourself it'll be alot quicker than waiting for the waitress service that they tell you you have to wait for, and if you do have a waitress don't forget about your change because that takes ages to come back to you aswell. ALL IN ALL A GOOD HOLIDAY BUT WOULDN'T GO BACK TO THIS HOTEL........... TOO FAR AWAY!..............
P.S. The fella's on the corner who sit having a chat at night are not intimidating at all i sat waiting for my husband on my own for a good 10mins and not one af the 20 men bothered me. The younger men who fix their cars during the daytime take more notice of us ladies and you can feel eyes staring at your bottom as you walk by, but with hardly any clothes on apart from our bikini's and short skirts what can we expect, they are men for gods sake and they are all the same at the end of the day!
Enjoy your hols and don't be worried if you've already booked just take some flat shoes and not heels for your walk to the harbour.
location not great
from patianVery poor customer service from staff!
from scarlettjNice Hotel, shame about where its situated!!
from salmalcolmThe main place of interest is Paphos Harbour-A good 20 mins walk from Mayfair. Again, not good with a buggy as what pavements there are were always obstructed by parked cars. The locals don't care where they park or how fast they drive!!
We stayed here due to meeting friends there for a wedding but wish now we had looked into it more before hand. The entertainment at night is pretty basic & was not our thing really so we had no choice but to walk the 20min walk most nights down to the harbour.
I would not really reccommend this hotel to those with very young kids unless all you want to do is stay at the hotel. We were there for 2 weeks but one would have been enough.
The area around the Mayfair is now very poor, apparently due to an 'Invasion' of Russians who seem to hang out on the street corners-very intimidating !! We spoke to a local restaurant owner who said that 10 years ago it was a good area but has gone downhill due to the fact that the Harbour is the main area for tourists.
Paphos doesn't seem to have a lot to offer so we won't be returning-We are told the resort of Potoras is much nicer!!!
Awful Experience
from Alison.M.HMy nan also had a ground floor room next to the half broken fence. A bloke walked into her room at night and mugged her, she slipped over, and also lost her favourite necklace. When she went outside she realised that there were some people cleaning the pool who had seen the whole thing but done nothing! Reception didnt want to know!
The next night my sister was in reception and saw somebody walk behind reception and grab a handful of room keys, he was stopped by security, but, they took the keys back and let him go with a shrug, as if it always happened!
I would advise anyones not to stay at this hotel, if you do you are putting your own safety at risk!
Great hotel, good staff, DONT HIRE A CAR FROM RECEPTION!!!
from A TripAdvisor MemberTop Local Tips for Paphos
Theo's Seafood We dined in Theo's on the harbour, without a doubt the best Moussaka I have ever tasted. My friend had her young toddlers with us and the staff could not do enough for them. Theo's is a must visit for the food and service..
bar street make a trip to the rose pub owned by a freindly fella called J who will look after you and then ask him depending on the time you leave there as where to go after depending what your in the mood for top place for nightlife as well as quiet getaways
Where to eat Hotel food tasty and varied - either for lunch or evening meal, but with so many restaurants to choose from within ten - fifteen minute walk, you would have to experience some of them - particularly Kato Paphos and harbour areas.
