Best hotel in the world for partying. I had a pint of vodka red bull delivered to my hotel room every morning and the staff was fine by this. The naked jelly wrestling night was a highlight.

Stayed at the Athena royal beach for two weeks at the end of September. Don't know where your other reviewers have stayed in the past but I do not feel that this hotel merits four star plus rating. It had an air of being unfinished and despite the adults only rating there were children staying at the hotel. The food was good quality but was a bit repetitive and drinks in the hotel were very expensive. Rooms were clean and comfortable but our bathroom had a couple of broken tiles. Entertainment was cheesy and lacked imagination. Most of the staff were pleasant and helpful particularly the Eastern European staff. Enjoyed our stay apart from one or two little niggles but would not return to this hotel.

We had a very enjoyable week in the Athena Royal. The facilities were excellent and the staff were very efficient and friendly. Should we return to Cyprus for another holiday, we would definitely stay at this hotel and have recommended it to friends.

I recently stayed at the Athena Royal for two weeks and it is without doubt the best hotel I have stayed at in the last 34 years. Every member of staff was polite, helpful and friendly. The meals were first class. Every part of the hotel has been finished to a first class standard. I highly recommend it. Another point to consider, it was Adults Only.

Fantastic new hotel in prime location on beach. Staff are attentive and very friendly and will help in any way possable. The food is first class and caters for all tastes. An adults only hotel assures peace and quiet in hotel and around the pool.

Nice but quiet

from crumbly
My wife and I have just arrived back from a two week stay in this hotel. We really only have one complaint about the hotel and that's the entertainment. The daytime entertainment is dreadful with a game of table tennis being about as exciting as it gets, no water polo, no handball, only water aerobics without any music, OK if that is what you are looking for, but if you are like me and most of the younger male guests that I spoke to, then it is like booking into an old peoples home for the week or fortnight. Evenings in the bar were even quieter, most nights they had a bloke playing the piano and singing slow background type music, as a result, most people stayed for one or two drinks only and then headed off into Paphos or a local pub. The staff know that there is a problem, as they are constantly asking you what you would to see change in the bar at night but nothing changed while I was there.
On a more positive note the hotel is first class, the rooms are adequate, we had the standard room facing the road which didn't get the afternoon sun, the room and balcony were nice and cool in the evenings for sitting and sipping a drink on. The staff were all really pleasant and couldn't do enough for you all spoke good English. 3 good pools outdoors with loads and loads of sunloungers and parasoles or better still palm trees, to lie under. THey are stretching a point calling it a beach hotel as there are rocks directly infront of the hotel with a floating jetty to get you out into clear water. The sister hotel has the beach infront of it and this is only a short walk to the left if you must have a beach but it also has children on the beach so beware.
For Info you can opt at any point in your holiday to upgrade from BB to half board at Cy£12 per person/day if you book 4 days or more you will get it for Cy£9.50 we thought this good value as the food in the hotel is very good. Eating out for lunch proved expensive for what it was with for example a very basic chefs salad costing Cy£ 4.60 which is approx £5.50 sterling , we were lucky if we got away with less than Cy£14 -18 for lunch each day and then about Cy£25 - 50 for dinner. depending on drinks etc gets expensive.
Beware of all the Cypriot restaurants down on the harbour, we and other people we spoke to, found them poor value and even poorer quality, thay aren't restaurants more cafe's. The only retaurant we would recommend near the hotel is the Italian, 100 metres down the road towards Paphos 'Cavallini's' superb food, fanatastic staff and not overly pricey by Cyprus standards
Careful when you rent a car, if you choose to rent in a locally owned place, which are everywhere, you will probably end up paying just about the same as you would if you hired it from Avis or Budget except it will probably have 80K hard hard miles on it, whereas the likes of Avis etc and it will be a fairly new car.
In conclusion if you are looking for quiet relaxing holiday with no kid's, in beautiful surroundings, then they don't come much better than this hotel.

Wonderful Holiday

from LR
We have just come back from a very relaxing and great holiday, staying at the Athena Royal Beach Hotel. It had the feel of a much larger hotel, but only had 162 rooms and was purely for adults only, so it did not feel like it was overrun with crowds of people. We paid the extra for a superior room which was extremely spacious and had a fabulous seaview. It made a great change not to have to get up early in the morning to reserve layouts, even at 2pm there were still lots of layouts available. If there were no seats left around the 3 pools, there were huge spaces of greenery with loads of layouts and umbrellas. So we never had to worry that we would not be able to sunbathe. Our only concern was that we both needed an umbrella for most of the day as we do not sit in the sun much and as there was one umbrella fixed to the ground per two layouts, we needed to split up and move to different seating areas, in order to get an umbrella each. One umbrella just did not protect us both unfortunately. As the hotel was not full it was possible to do this but I would be worried if the hotel was fully booked up and we could only keep to one umbrella for the two of us. However, this would not be a reason to avoid this hotel. We were on bed and breakfast basis only but did eat in the hotel three nights. The food was good, plenty of salads for vegetarians, and they prepared a special veggie dish for me when I mentioned to the Reception staff in advance that I was veggie. The staff were lovely, and seemed more than happy to help. The hotel was kept spotless. It was in a great location, however for those wanting a throbbing nightlife, you would need to walk to the harbour which is about a 35 minute leisurely walk away. There are some lovely restaurants about 2 minutes away from the hotel, and a good selection of bars but the real nightlife is in the harbour. The hotel did not 'throb' at night, but there was a bar open until 01:00 and usually a pianist or a duo providing music. It was just a great place to unwind, be away from the crowds, but in easy access to a busier nightlife if needed.

The adults only theme was strictly adhered to. On the few occasions that any passing young children approached the hotel grounds from the promenade at the back, they would be 'banished' by somebody or other.

Overall, the hotel was wonderful and we would definitely return to it.

Well worth it!

from telfordpete
A fantastic hotel that was completed last year and is still like new. Great facilities, a mini market, a gym and all those sort of treatments the ladies like!. Clean and modern but with some sophistication that clearly caters for couples. It was great not to have kids running everywhere and ‘bombing’ in any of the four lovely pools. This is a hotel for peace and quiet, relaxation and to really ‘chill-out’ in the hotels bar after a superb evening meal at their restaurant. Entertainment is low-key but there are frequent nights when outdoor BBQ’s, Greek Night buffet’s etc are held outside. These meals are usually accompanied by traditional Greek dancing, live music or even a cabaret. Yes, it may cost a little more, but book a room with a sea view. Well worth waking up to. All of the staff were efficient and friendly and this clearly made us feel very welcome. We took the option of flexi-board that meant that for our 14 night stay we only ate at the Athena for 7 night. Just up the road from the Hotel (5 mins walking) is a nice little centre with quite a few bars and restaurants, all again were good, clean and well worth a visit. Paphos harbour was a bus or taxi ride away. This was a bustling resort with good restaurants and again a place to ‘chill’ and people watch.
Overall a very good holiday. The Hotel is worthy of being a 4 star +, the location is quiet but not secluded. I’m sure you would not be disappointed.

Lovely hotel

from stargazer2705
We have recently stayed at the Athena royal Beach hotel and found it to be of an extremely high standard. All the staff were very polite and helpful and the rooms were clean with good facilities. We also paid extra for a sea view which is worth it.! we had HB for 4 x nights and found the food to be excellent and the breakfasts particularly had a wide choice of food, and bucks fizz! Paphos itself is quite quiet but that's what we wanted. Cavallinis italian restaurant was overpriced and substandard but there are many other decent restaurants nearby. The entertainment is limited to the array of English bars and karaoke nights and the only downside of the hotel was the entertainment was a bit lacking as the hotel was so quiet. If you want complete relaxation with no kids then this is the place to be. Coral beach is lovely and if you have a car drive up to Polis and go on a boat trip up there, the blue lagoon is lovely and we had an amazing fish meze meal in the harbour at Lattshe.

Would return again to this hotel

from specialevents
We stayed at The Athena Royal Beach hotel for 10 days in June. We had 7 days B & B and 3 at half board, We had a sea view room which was great. Overall the staff were very helpful in particular Barbara, Reception Manager and the Maitre D of the restaurant. It was great being able to have your breakfast on the veranda but the downside to this was that smoking was allowed in this area but inside it was not. However, after pointing out to the Maitre D that it would be good to have a no smoking area, they took this on board and did not put out ashtrays! The hotel is spotless as are the pool areas. There are plenty of sunbeds so there is no rush to get up early to reserve your bed. They also have sunbeds on the grass and on the beach. The beach is almost non existant but a trip to Coral Beach is worth it for the beach. Unlike most of the reports for this hotel, we were very disappointed with the food at the hotel. We felt it was the same choices offered every day and whilst the efficiency of the staff compensated for the lack of choice, we were glad we had booked only 3 days at HB. There are some great restaurants close to the hotel and are always busy. We tried Oleastro, Bistro Vienna, Gabor, the Italian which I cannot remember the name and were all excellent. Avoid 'Nature' as this was very disappointing. We had a car for all the holiday and took a trip to Limasol and had lunch at the Four Seasons hotel which was absolutely fantastic. It cost £22.50 each for lunch but was by far the best meal during the holiday. I would not want to stay in Limasol for a holiday otherwise we would definitely book there in the future.

Overall the holiday was totally relaxing and the staff were great. It was great to have the view of the clear blue sea each morning and we would return to this hotel again.

A lovely hotel

from HanD
Overall this is a lovely hotel in a good location and is definitely of a 4 star standard. Have noted the best and worst bits below.

- The grounds and pool area are lovely and you can always get a sunbed in one of the areas throughout the day.
- The rooms are comfortable with lovely bathrooms and the aircon and safes are free to use in the room.
- Free beach towels everyday and the cleaning service is brilliant - rooms are kept spotless!
- The breakfast choice is amazing - loads for meat eaters and veggies aswell.
- The hotel do some brilliant theme nights where food and entertainment is included. We went to the Cypriot night which was good. £15 (UK) for 3 course buffet meal (not including any drinks) which is quite reasonable considering the prices of the restaurants in the area.
- Customer service standards throughout the hotel are high, reception staff are very keen to sort out any problems you may experience.
- The mini-mart and bar are both reasonably priced and have a lot of choice. Some drinks in the bar are more expensive (as you would expect!) but there are half price drinks between 6.30 and 7.30 every evening and some drinks (glass of wine for eg) are a good price.
- Location is perfect for the restaurants on the edge of the town and is in a nice area, 25 mins walk to the Harbour and 15 mins walk to Bar Street.
- Bus service from just down from the hotel runs to Coral Bay, Market, Harbour and Tomb of the Kings for about £2 return.

- There are no sunbeds on the beach area and the beach is very rocky, however you don't have to walk far to find some nice areas of beach.
- Some of the balconies are very small, this applies to all the side sea view rooms and some of the sea view rooms.
- The aricon temperature is centrally controlled (currently at 20 degrees) and there does seem to be problems with the aircon on some rooms - reception will sort this as long as you are persistent.

Paphos area
Paphos is a lovely town to visit, it is worth remembering that it is not like a small Greek town (eg Pefkos, Hanioti, Lassi), it is much bigger and not as pretty. However this does mean that there is more choice in bars and restaurants and more things to see! There is a McDonalds, Pizza Express etc but not all areas are that commercialised. The main 'bar street' area has changed in recent years with many more bars and less restaurants. However, the restaurants at the harbour and near the hotel remain plentiful. If you don't like the sound of 'bar street' you need never go there with so many other areas of Paphos. Near the hotel there are many nice restaurants, we liked the following: Les Amis, Za Za, Cavenelli, Romantica, Oleastro. The last 3 you will see when you walk towards the town from the hotel. The first two you need to turn right just before Alexander the Great Hotel (which is on the main road to town) down a small road. Restaurant prices are a bit expensive generally in the resort but there service and quality is high (eg: £35-uk for 2 course meal and bottle wine) Coral Bay is still the best beach in the area but there are nice small areas of beach scattered along the main road.

perfect hotel

Book a sea view room it is worth the extra.

Athena Royal, Paphos- Superb

from A TripAdvisor Member
If you want a relaxing and peaceful holiday and prefer to stay in a hotel with no under 18s, then this is a perfect choice. We stayed on a B & B basis so can only speak for the wonderful self service breakfast on offer. The choice was superb.
Not a good beach though but with lovely grounds and 3 out door pools to choose from, it didn't matter( also an indoor pool) . The hotel also offers lovely spa treatments at comparable prices to the UK. I can also recommend two restaurants close to the hotel- the Olestro, serving gorgeous various mediterranean dishes and Cavallinis, an Italian restaurant.

My best holiday by far!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We have been back from Paphos 4 days now and we wished we were back there on our balcony over looking the gorgeous sea.

As for the hotel it was fantastic lots of facilities within the hotel and like many have said a short walk is all that is needed to get to some local pubs and restaurants. We recommend the Thalassa, If you like fish/sea food, I personally don't but my boyfriend does and he loved it. He had the Squid Stefardo, I opted for the steak which was also very good. We did try to get into the Cavallini on our last night but was fully booked and was booked up for the following 3 days. So if your planning to go ensure you book well in advance. We did however manage to get into a french restaraunt facing the sunbow restaraunt which was very good.

To get into the centre, Kato Paphos you can easily catch a bus or like we did walk, You see alot more this way. Was rather warm but worth it, with plenty of bars and shops to pop into on the way down.

Within the hotel we had a double room on the 3rd floor which overlooked the sea. Which was spectacular during the day and extremely romantic at night with the moon shining down on the waves that came in. Bliss!

Anyway it was down to these write ups that we decided to go to this hotel and I would fully recommend to all. That is if you are looking for nice views, Nice people, Lovely atmosphere, Good food and drink - I would recommend Keo beer and Aphrodite wine.

I hope all that visit here have as good a holiday as we did.

Athena Royal tops!

from slicer123
We have just returned from the Athena royal and can only agree with the previous subscriber. If you are B&B the breakfast sets you up for the day. The choice is huge. My favourite was the omelette(made as you wait) and the bucks fizz! There are plenty of good eating places within a short walking distance. Recommend Cavellini. Bombay Brasserie, Nature(good but sometimes a bit slow), Sunbow and Rib shack. Also plenty of pubs.

Top Local Tips for Paphos

Many historical attractions visit Aphrodities rock, Tombs of the kings, Baths of Adonis, one of the many cocktail bars

best steak ever! Oliveto Restaurant - will be a CYP£5/6 taxi fare to other side of Paphos to this restaurant but well worth it for an amazing steak which arrives on a hot stone for you to cook to your preference (and I normally hate cook yourself kind of restaurants - this is nothing like that, no hassle involved!).

Room with a view If you can, book a room with a full sea view
