We have been holidaying at the Athena Beach for the last 5 years and would have no hesitation in recommending it. We have looked at all the other main hotels around Paphos and some may seem very grand but do not match the Athena Beach for facilities, Cleanliness and the friendly staff. Also the grounds and beach area are second to none for there layout. Some of the top hotels have an allocated number system for sunbeds which are crammed in and not able to be moved. These are a few of our observations of which there are too many to mention.
We are looking forward to our 6th visit at the Athena Beach in October.

from Bellfield
The Athena beach is one of about a dozen similar hotels stretched along 2 miles of coast south east of the harbour in Paphos. It is located about the middle of the series and it takes about 40 minutes comfortable walk to get to the harbour. You can walk on a path by the sea going past other hotels, although there is some rough ground by the now derelict winery.

The Athena Beach has almost 500 rooms and at any time may have some 1,000 guests.

This hotel has beautiful grounds, spacious rooms, and excellent facilities. There are several outdoor pools, one of which is heated to a temperature which is genuinely comfortable to swim in, and there is a smaller heated indoor pool. These were important for us in March. There are extensive bowling greens with a professional coach. It has a gym which, unusually in our experience, has some good equipment.

The catering operation appears to be very well managed and the food is good in variety and quality.

As with most of these beach hotels it is much better to have a sea view because you have much more to look at from your balcony, get the sun, and avoid traffic noise from the coast road.

We had a few niggles. The twin beds, consisting of a firm mattress on a solid base, were uncomfortable. We had a room on the 4th floor below the flat roof, and suffered from an intermittent booming noise from the air conditioning plant. Smoking is permitted in parts of the dining room; although in practice we did not see anybody actually smoking.

Overall, though we would stay at this hotel again and recommend it. It is particuarly good at cooler times of year. Our room had very effective heating, which in March was welcome, and the many facilities can be used all year round.

Great Hotel

Just returned from a week at the Athena Beach and couldn`t fault the hotel, staff friendly & reception staff very helpful.Had a wonderful sea view room with everything you could wish for being provided e.g robes, slippers ,fridge, kettle, iron&ironing board all free of charge. The food good &plenty of choice, but drinks in the hotel were expensive, try going for"Happy Hour".Everywhere was spotlessly clean.Good local bus service which stops practically outside the hotel&fares are cheap, but taxis quite expensive.Lots of nice bars &cafes whithin strolling distance,& a walk alongside the sea takes you into Pahos about 20min stroll. Not too impressed with Paphos itself, very commercialised, although the harbour pleasant to sit & watch boats coming & going.Would stay at this hotel again.

t wait to go back!

We stayed at the Athena Beach Hotel in Paphos in August 2005 - this was the 2nd time we had stayed there and we will definitely go back again. We found everything about the hotel excellent - spacious public areas; efficient, friendly and welcoming reception staff; huge pool area - 3 pools + waterslide with separate pool + paddling pool; extensive sun terraces with sufficient sunbeds and parasols (a necessity in August when temperatures were in the late 30s!); huge lawned garden area with sunbeds and parasols that led down to the beach which also had sunbeds and parasols. Not ideal area for sea swimming due to lots of rocks and occasional currents. Food was excellent and the outdoor Friday night barbeque was the best we've ever had - huge selection of meats all tender and not chewey as often is the case when eating abroad. The management have a weekly cocktail party - to which all hotel guests are invited and repeat bookers are treated like royalty, being given a discount card entitling you to 10% off all food and drink throughout your stay and inviting you to an additional party with the management where a group photo was taken - a brilliant souvenir aswell!! Plenty of on-site activities - free mini-golf in picturesque surroundings, tennis (we found the weather too hot to run round!!!) and bowling greens (only cost CY£2 each to hire woods and green for an hour. Evening entertainment was limited and quiet but livlier area of Paphos is only a 5 minute bus (stop outside hotel, cost 60 cents!) or taxi ride away. Hotel's bar prices are expensive but, as a whole, we did find Cyprus more expensive than other popular destinations such as Spain and Portugal. Rooms are average size but more comforts than normal: kettle provided with tea, coffee, etc. replenished daily; large fridge with ice compartment; T.V.; hairdrier. There was a bottle of local wine, bottle of water and bowl of fruit in the room when we arrived and a bottle of olive oil given as a gift on our departure (we assumed this was because we were repeat bookers as we had not had this the previous year, our first visit).
Best parts of the holiday: breakfast by the pool every morning (with complimentary sparkling wine on a Sunday!); relaxing pool area; sunbeds beneath shady palms in the garden; evening barbeque; day visit to Nicosia via Omodos in the Troodos Mountains.
Not so good: prices of drinks and measures are equivalent to British measures!

t have hoped for more for our wedding!

Got Married here 22/9/05 The hotel was fabulous!

The staff were very helpfull and the Hairdressers and beauticians worked miracals!

we got married in the gardens and it was at 5pm and got some excellent photos as the sunset.

the only down side to the wedding ceremony was that people sat down couldnt hear what the vicar was saying because her voice wasnt put through the p.a. system.

Apart from that the video and photos came back the same night for us to check out and the meal we had in the a la carte restaurant in the hotel was far beyond our expectations.

The wedding organiser from olympus was excellent too, she sorted all the flowers locally, all the papaerwork was done in 10mins (literally) and she even ushered every one around on the day!

Thank you so much for sorting it all athena beach!

If any one wants to see pictures of the wedding there go to www.markandaprilswedding.co.uk and have a nose at ours!

Wonderful Wedding

from A TripAdvisor Member
We recently stayed at the Athena Beach Hotel for our wedding. We got married in the St Raphaels funtion room within the hotel. We could not fault this hotel. When we arrived we were absolutely delighted, we were taken to our room by conceirge, we had fresh fruit and champagne in our room, we had the most beautiful view out to the sea. The staff were so friendly and every aspect of our wedding was catered for, when we arrived back to our room there was a "just married" sign and balloons on our door. We had our photographs taken in the hotel grounds and on the beach and then we went to Cavellinis at night (which it a beautiful italian restaurant) about 200 metres from the hotel. If you are thinking of getting married in Paphos then we would definately recommend this hotel!!

An ideal stay for our wedding

from Super_Mazza
We stayed at the Athena Beach Hotel for 2 weeks in April/May as we were getting married at the Paphos Town Hall and we also had our reception at the hotel.

Our stay could not have been more perfect! The staff were excellent - everything we asked for was done, and always with a friendly manner. The hotel is in a quiet spot outside of the main harbour area but still in reasonable walking distance of attractions and restaurants. It has good facilities - we especially loved the swimming pool area and the outside terrace, oh and the piano bar. All of these were a big hit with our wedding guests. It was a perfect setting.

The hotel has its own hairdressing and beauty salon so I did not have to go far on the morning of my wedding! The staff here are also very good - they ordered champagne and nibbles without being asked when they saw me starting to stress out an hour before the wedding! This calmed me down!! I was very happy with the results of both my hair and make-up.

I know that there are more elusive hotels to stay in Paphos but the Athena Beach is really value for money and I have never been somewhere where the staff are so helpful. We had a very enjoyable stay, it was very relaxing and very peaceful.

Our only disappointment was the room which was quite standard but the beautiful view and balcony made up for that. And to be honest, we did not spend that much time in the room as the rest of the hotel was so lovely! Upon arrival, we asked for a free upgrade which you can apparently get as a wedding couple, but unfortunately there was not enough room. I had heard so many wonderful things about these rooms so was a bit disappointed.

Our other disappointment was that we had to come home!!

Not for beach lovers

from A TripAdvisor Member
We have just spent a week at this hotel looking for a relaxing and comfortable stay and this is exactly what we got. The hotel is average for a 4 star but is clean and reasonably well equipped with a good shower and fridge provided. The swimming pools were very good and there are plenty of sunbeds with parasols around the pools and the gardens. The 'beach' and coastline is very disappointing to anyone who is looking for a golden beach and sea swimming - there are rocks and seaweed to contend with. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis as we wanted to experience the local restaurants. Within 5 minutes walk there is plenty of choice but for a special meal we would recommend the French 'Gabor' or Italian 'Cavallini' but you may need to book these the day before as they are very popular.

Great hotel!!

We were in this hotel for 5 days and we enjoyed every minute of it. The rooms were nice, the beach and swimming pool great, breakfast excellent and staff friendly.

All in all, this was the perfect hotel for a reasonable price.

Top Local Tips for Paphos

Best times in Cyprus Cheaper in winter, but weather doesn't start getting better until mid-March.

Eatting out Take advantage of the set menues at the local tavernas where for around a fiver you can get an excellent 3 course meal with, at some, free wine.

bed and breakfast don't book full or half board many other lovely restaurants nearby and hire a car to get around this lovely island.
