Historical Traveller Reviews of Annabelle Hotel
Fantastic service!
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe best things about the hotel were:
The Food - consistantly absolutely fantastic. I would happily pay more than the half board supplement for the dinners in london. The afternoon tea in particular should not be missed!
The service - the staff simply couldn't do enough and made a real effort to remember your name and room number etc.
The ambiance - this hotel has the quiet sophistication of an expensive hotel but is in no way stuffy - perfect.
The worst thing about this hotel was:
The hidden extras - it was a little irritating that the pay per view movies were nearly GBP£10 and there was only one english channel on the advertised 'sky' tv in the rooms. There is a surcharge for use of the jacuzzi which seemed odd and the drinks are pretty expensive.
We had a great time - I'm in my early twenties and we were by far the youngest guests as most guests at this time of year were retired couples - some staying for over a month. But it does mean guaranteed peace and quiet. Off season this is not the hotel for anyone looking for a lively break or people with children but for a spot of winter sun, pampering and quiet relaxation I would highly reccomend it.
Annabelle v Anassa
from LEADBETTERSWe had one of their 6 private pool suites. This was OK but the private pool was so cold as to be unusable and these top of the range suites are near to the staff walkways and kitchens so can be very noisy.
It became apparent that having one of the 6 top suites in the hotel carried no importance elsewhere in the hotel.Service was patchy throughout and in the hotel's top restaurant one of the waiters was unforgiveably rude.
The choice of dining was limited for such a large hotel and on some nights the full package approach of trying to herd residents in to one restaurant only was apparent.
Paphos seems to be very 'English pub' or Fast Food with few fine dining opportunities. The hotel did book us in to one very good restaurant (Pavarottis)but clearly being guests of supposedly the best hotel in town staying in their best suite counted for nothing as we had the very worst table in the full restaurant.
This hotel may be above average at basic room level but falls woefully short of the standards expected at suite price level.
Much better than I expected
from UK0APWell past it!!
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe only five star quality this hotel had was its staff, who were fantastic, helpful and courteous. I can recommend the babysitting service. Any member of staff we spoke to know about all the problems with the hotel and seemed embarrassed by it but obviously it was beyond their control.
To surmise to expensive for what it is.
Past it
from A TripAdvisor MemberVery tired
from A TripAdvisor MemberBeen to Better
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe will not be making a return trip to the Annabelle, and we wont be recommnending it to our friends or family.
Very disappointing experience
from A TripAdvisor MemberThis decision incurred a not insignificant 3 night cancellation penalty but this did not disuade us to get away from the hotel
The hotel is very dated and while its website evidences many awards all seem to date from more than 5 years ago......in retrospect the first warning sign!
The room was frankly not upto scratch or standard: pervasive smell of tobacco, niocotine stained walls and a/c controls, broken ac vents, rust stained bath surround, smell of sewage in the garden outside, sloppy decoration with paint drips and overpainiting on chrome room furniture
And the icing on the cake- plastic covered pillow protectors which crackled in your ear every time you moved! Not to mention the noise from the town nearby
OK you might say perhaps we are too particular or have unrealistic standards but the reality is my wife hates to complain so it had to be bad!!
We moved a short distance to a newish 5 star hotel- the Eliseum- who were very diplomatic but were clearly not surprised by our decision as it seems we were not the first short notice guest they had\received looking for a room for similar reasons
Clean fresh rooms decorated and furnished to a high standard at 60% of the cost of our room at the Annabelle
She may have been pretty once but she is now more than showing her age and suggesting the hotel is 5 star is stretching the benchmark of current and newer hotels in that category
Annabelle return
from A TripAdvisor MemberAfter a refreshing drink while we registered we were immediately taken to our room which overlooked both the pool and sea.
The Annabelle is a hotel of quiet sophistication. The staff are extremely efficient and friendly and we could not find anything to fault it.
We have been to Cyprus many times since 1989, staying at a different hotel but the Annabelle is a class above others.
The rooms, restaurants and facilities are excellent. My wife describes it as "understated elegance."
We are returning next June.
Excellent hotel
from Lew1You recieve cold towels on arrival and a complimentary drink.
The bathroom has slippers and robes, nail files etc and a great shower.
The pool is very large but quite slippery so watch out. There is a smaller pool with a waterfall and swim up bar but I did not go into that one as it did not look all that clean.
We did not eat at the restaurant although we met people who did and they said it was lovely. We took a walk along the strip of shops and restaurants and found one called 'The Moorings'. The food was excellent, staff great and great prices too. We went back every night of our stay.
Outside the hotel there are quite a few shops and restaurants and behind these is 'Bar Street'. Not many people knew about that because they had not walked down the side roads and found it. If you want a lively night out go there as there are so many places to choose from you will not get bored.
We did not see one cloud all week. It was between 30 - 35 deg everyday which was lovely.
The staff at he hotel were very friendly and polite. The maids make up your room every morning and then come back at night to make up the bed and re-tidy the room!
This hotel is pure luxury. We found the best deal by far at Travelbargains, they were nearly £1,000 cheaper than anywhere alse we looked.
The only bad point was there was not a real beach here. You can get a bus into Coral Bay, takes about 20mins and costs about 50p. They have a nice Sandy Beach but the pool at the hotel was fine for us.
We went Jet Ski-ing which was great fun and costs £25 Cyprus pounds for 25mins. Well worth the money so make sure you try it while you are there.
Top Local Tips for Paphos
Mosaics Well worth a trip to see the Mosaics in Kato Pafos. But take a hat, sunglasses and some water - there is no shelter and it gets very hot. The area is mainly rock which intensifies the sun. But don't be put off the mosaics are beautiful and extensive and they are finding and uncovering more all the time. The light house is being done up and should be open soon.
Using Local Teraqnsport All buses anywhere within Pathos region only cost 80cents per trip
wax work museum Dont go to this, it is at the end of the harbour and it is £4 cypriot to enter and it is a small roomwith all sorts crammed in, we went in because they lure you at the time Shrek 3 had just been realised and they had Shrek & donkey outside, but that I can honestly say was the end of the interest. There are much more interesting and much better value fir money sights to see so i would recommend avoiding this museum....
