Historical Traveller Reviews of Akteon Holiday Village Hotel

packed for me!

from jenandpaul
I've just read another review entitled "Butlins in Cyprus" and I would have to agree. We did not encounter any problems with the facilties, the food or the staff the entertainment was VERY cheesy, VERY loud and VERY repetitive. If you fancy aqua aerobics to various europop tunes every day, this is the holiday for you. If you fancy relaxing by the pool with a book, take your i-pod, you'll need it to be loud to drown out said europop. However, if you can put up with the music the staff are a lot happier to take no for an answer than other places I have been where there have been activities going on.

The food was quite repetitive, but wasn't inherently bad. The drinks didn't seem as strong as they should be, and the all inclusive options were very limited. The soft drinks were all overly sweet, I don't think I managed to get a "diet" coke all week as the bar staff were very disinterested and didn't really care what they were giving you. As there were also self catering guests there, they had overly strict rules about how many drinks you could order at once, and where you could take them. No more than mildly annoying really, but just takes away from the relaxed holiday atmosphere.

The place did get VERY busy with locals the weekend we were there, but we understand it was a bank holiday locally. This did make the pool area a lot noisier and not as plesant as it had been during the week.

Overall, we got quite a cheap deal on our holiday, so weren't too disappointed with it. However, some places were advertising this hotel as 5 star, it is NOT. The fact that you had to give a deposit to borrow a hairdryer for a few hours (assume it would be the same with an iron) leads me to believe it would be better described as a good 3 star, or low 4 star. I know foriegn standards are different to the UK but...

Angina Inducing Trek to Apartment

from A TripAdvisor Member
Took my 10 year old son to Akteon in June 2006. Will try to be honest and factual.
First problem. NO PORTER!! no help with the cases whatsoever. Block 25 is on a steep gradient with many steep steps. Could not manage heavy cases on my own - reception were very put out. Anyone with Angina/high blood pressure beware.

Second problem - Local youths, gangs of about 10 take over the pool at about 4pm. Life guard is absolutely useless and lets them divebomb and splash everyone. The whole atmosphere changes until they leave.

The beach, well you should know before booking that there is no beach. Absolutely no beach, just sheer drop onto rocks

All inclusive - half board and self catering just does not work. Drinks are ghastly and served in plastic cups. All inclusive guests have limited menu and not allowed fresh orange juice.

Staff - females from Slovakia are surly and unfriendly with the exception of a few.

There is a community hall slap bang in the centre of Akteon which has local weddings nearly every weekend. Loud and I mean loud music blasting out until the police are called.

Television - no reception, Air conditioning - worth the 10 euros - ask at reception for hand set.

Food in main restaurant is very inventive and reappears morning, noon and night in a completely different guise.

Libra Rep would sell her grandmother. Do NOT TAKE HER ADVICE and go on the Jeep safari to the mountains. It is scorching hot. the Landrover has no airconditioning and 10 adults are squashed in like sardines. It should be banned during the summer. One of the worst and dangerous tours I have ever been on. Some older people fainted. Turtles on the beach?? Just a thatched hut with a few photos in it!! A big con!!

Good points:- great for kids, birdie song and all. Great pool apart from local mafiosa kids. Rooms clean, food adequate - had better. Try Sani Beach in Halkidiki - they have it down to a fine art!!

Lots of sun beds. Entertainment on an evening is a mixed bag, but staff try really hard and deserve a mention.

Pool bar serves the best food, fresh and plentiful

Could be a great place but has some issues which could be easily remedied. A suggestion box could help.

Very Rude Staff - The Ants Are Friendlier!!

from bekUk
The rudest staff I have ever come across, completely ruined our honeymoon. Ignored at every mealtime & the staff would tut in our faces. We had booked a 'Hermes Executive Suite' which was full of ants & spiders on arrival, including in our beds, which by the way were 2 singles! The whirlpool bath was a joke. There were about 10 holes in the bath which shot water to the ceiling & made an horrendous noise. We had to take showers as we couldn't sit in the bath. One of the worst things were the racist songs played around the pool & at the children's disco (when they weren't playing the birdie song!). One rapper slagged off about the role of the British & Americans in WW2 & people around the pool were disgusted. We payed a small fortune for our 'luxury' honeymoon & not only were we ripped off but we can never have that honeymoon again. I could go on with a list as long as my arm but I've exhausted my complaints with a 2000 word letter to our tour operator. So a warning to you all - steer clear of Cyplon travel agents & The Akteon Tourist Village!!

First Ever Guests

from robcop_8182
I stayed in the Akteon village in May 2003

We had booked through a promotion the travel company had at the time
Buy one get one for £99

We booked Cuba and originally booked another destination but the tour operator rang and asked us if it would be possible to choose another destination due to a cancelled flight

Best thing that could ever of happened as when we arrived we were the very first guests in the hotel me and my partner and all of the other twelve guests staying at the hotel were over the moon with the accommodation “Yes just twelve people in the hotel…. We felt like posh and becks we were offered to upgrade from self catering to All inclusive for an additional £99 so we took them up on there offer and was given our wrist bands,

The hotel is a little far from paphos so it worked well as an all inclusive but I would not suggest self catering “if they do I any more that is” the accommodation has indoor pool 2 out door looking out to see and sauna oh it has everything you could want

I must admit as the week drew to an end there was more people turning up by the coach load and the staff started to look a little stressed by it all

We hired a soft-top jeep and head for the mountains ………. Amazing would advise you to rent a car as they drive on the same side of the road its just like back home

My review may be a little behest due to the fact I was a gunnie pig testing this hotel but ive never enjoyed myself so much and I would live on this complex if I could

Butlins in Cyprus!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Went here on honeymoon for 1 week. Cost an exceptional amount of money because we wanted memorable and that is exactly what we got for all the wrong reasons! Staff were rude and ignored us as we were all inclusive. We were treated as second class citizens from the minute we got there. Drinks were watered down and a large beer was served in a small plastic cup half fluid half froth!!! At breakfast on my 3rd day, I ate a sausage and found myself chomping on glass which was inside it (cutting my mouth)! Staff ignored me and carried on serving same food. When I finally got someone to see me I was promptly told that it was the manufacturers fault, not theirs and what did I want them to do about it?! (I wanted an apology but got nothing at that point!) Same day, witnessed a lady complaining about a piece of plastic in her food. She too was ignored. Things did eventually get a little better but not much! There was a big turn around with staff attitude after speaking to their PR person but still nothing solid by way of apology for the glass in the food incident!! It would also appear that this is a weekend retreat for local families and it is very noisy, not at all relaxing like was advertised.Sauna advertised as part of hotel but didn't work and hadn't worked for quite some time! Entertainment was repetitive and cheezy! If you like the birdy song every night then you should book here!

Excellent value holiday

from A TripAdvisor Member
We have just returned from 1 week at the Atkeon - staying All inclusive. We thoroughly enjoyed it and cant wait to go back! The food is of a good standard and also offers the snack menu if you are a bit sick of the buffet food ( you just have to eat at a slightly different time of day ). The entertainment team are very good, expecially Daniella whos multi lingual bingo calling is hilarious at first until you get used to it!!! Michel is also very friendly. The restaurant staff work very hard and are also extremely friendly. The bar staff also are really nice - especially Olga who had to put up with the men in our group constantly chatting her up!!! AI drinks you get a big selection including loads of cocktails, liqueur coffees so you can really treat yourself.

The hotel itself is really nicely laid out with beautiful swimming pools and the rooms are very spacious and clean. I would recommend this hotel for a relaxing - good fun holiday and we will definitely be going back, great value for money.

great place to stay

from everton1234
Just stayed at Akteon for 1 week 12-19 March 2006. This hotel is lovely, you can not fault it. Bar a little expensive, but to be expected. Happy hours 5.30-6.30 & 11.00-12.00 (evenings). Entertainment is very good - say hello to the shakey shakey guy!!!! Your challenge is to try to get a smile from the receptionists!!!! Pool is very fresh at this time of year, but I'm sure it's great in the summer months. We stayed self catering and the facilities are excellent in the kitchen area. Maids are very friendly. Overall hotel is gorgeous, the grounds are excellent too. Paphos is lovely, for a night out try Kleo's bar in Coral Bay, taxi costs the same either way. Also Palm Grove restaurant in Coral Bay is excellent. Do not try Pepperoni Pizza it is over-rated.

fantastic place!

from simon-john
my girlfriend and i managed to book a late deal for a week in september to cyprus, as it was alocation on arrival we were abit aprehensive, when we arrived at the akteon we were really suprised how nice it was,our room was immaculate and well furnished with a nice sized lounge and kitchenette, the food served at the akteon was very nice an there was always a good choice and plenty of it, we found the waiters extremely friendly especialy pepis! the pool was amazing it was a good size and very clean, the entertainment was good too with different themed nights each night,we found the entertainers friendly too including michel(the shakey shakey guy) all in all we had a great time and would certainly recommend the akteon village to anyone.

Excellent place, wonderful staff

from A TripAdvisor Member
We booked our holiday through the travel agents as we did not want to pay a lot for it. This is because we visit cyprus to see friends who live there and we are with them most of the time and only use the hotel/apartments to sleep in but we got an excellent surprise the morning after we arrived. The place is lovely, with views to die for. It was January and not exactly boiling hot but it was sunny. The complex is massive with all the apartments in blocks which are all labelled up so you dont get lost. The paths between the blocks are all well lit and surrounded by trees and flowers. ( it looks lovely on a night as you walk round) The staff are all very helpful (despite what other people say) They find nothing too much trouble. Yes you do have to pay a deposit for the remote control for the air con/heating, but if you didnt, how many people would damage it and loose it and let the kids play with it? You dont pay anything over that and you get your deposit back when you return it!! Overall the place is brill with four, yes four (4) swimming pools. The evening entertainment is varied and depending on what you want, very good. there is a large lounge with lots of cumfy chairs to relax in and have a drink after a busy day out. Great!!!!!!!!!

Not great for kids

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Akteon Village was not good for kids out of season as there was nothing to do for them, the indoor pool was supposed to be heated but never was.Everyone complained about this but nothing was done. The kids club room was permanently locked, when asked about this they told us it would open at three but never did. Some of the staff were rude and seemed not to care about anything. The games room near the pool had arcade games that were giving out electric shocks and had loose wires and plug sockets hanging off the walls with exposed wires, hardly child friendly. Halfway through the holiday the television in our room gave my partner an electric shock and got broken, they charged us £130 to replace it. Absolutely disgusted at the attitude i got from the management. On the plus side the people in charge of entertainment (Alex and Daniella) were really nice and brilliant with kids. Maybe when it is in season it would be fine for kids, but from what i experienced i do not intend to return to find out.
