A bit far away from the beach area but otherwise an excellent hotel. Food generally very good (apart from BBQ night) Staff extremely courteous and friendly. Accomodation good and very clean. Would recommend.

Great Value for Money

from Isymac
This hotel is in my opinion the best 3 star hotel we've stayed in. Yes, the food can be repetative, yes the bacon has a large content of fat in it, and yes the towels have seen better days, this is all true, but you have to remember its a 3 star hotel not 5 star and you shouldnt expect to get what you havent paid for!

We were through check in in 5 mins, the room was a good size, carpeted which is quite unusual but good for a change, the airconditioning was individually controlled, we had a decent balcony, the bathroom was a good/average size, and when I discovered the sink was blocked, it was mended within an hour, you cant ask for fairer than that.

The staff were very efficient, helpful and friendly. Our booking agent made an awful error on the length of our stay and Hazel on Reception sorted it out of us, nothing was too much trouble.

This is above average for 3 stars in our opinion, the food was good in the evening, yes the breakfast was repitative, but then how often do you get up at home and have a different breakfast every morning?, You have a choice of grapefruit, orange or pineapple, tea or coffee, white or brown bread, brown rolls, marmalade and some other preserves...I dont eat them so didnt look, sausage (this was a german type sausage, again I dont do them, but my husband thought they were ok), bacon, what we would call streaky, not crispy, and either boiled egg or scrambled egg and beans, There was frest fruit, again I didnt sample but they looked fine to me.

Dinner in the evening was good, there was a choice of 3 main meals and always your normal salad starters and soup and a choice of cakes and sickie sickies as I call them, trifles, blancmanges, jellies etc all presented very good for 3 star!

The rooms were cleaned 5 times a week and towels and sheets changed twice....which is I think sufficient and if its not, then perhaps the people who dont know how to wash and get the dirt off before drying themselves, should not worry about it!

There is a bus stop right outside the door! It costs 80 cent to anywhere in paphos, which is a massive place, as we found out when we got there!

The hotel is situated on a main street, in the town of paphos, therefore no-one should be alarmed at hearing traffic noise, its not a secret, cars make noise! Its 3KM to Kato Paphos (lower paphos, or the touristy bit if you like), you can do this in 5-10 mins on the bus for 80 cent, or £3 -£4 cyp in a taxi, there is no nightlife as such round the hotel, but again this should not come as a surprise if you take the time to read the brochures...its in the town, not the tourist area, you will find places open, they generally are local bars but they are all fairly friendly and do their best to help you.

The Hotel has entertainment 2 or 3 times a week, and it was fine, we like to go and ventrure out so didnt take much notice but It sounded ok to us.

Happy hour every night between 10.30 and11.30 means a Pina Colada cost only £1.40 cyp. Bargain!! and Gabor makes the most wonderful Milkshakes for £1.50cyp.

The biggest downside of this hotel in our opinion and that of the other person with us, was the beds, they are hard, however, with a little improvisation, and the blanket out of the cupboard, I managed to cure it, and the maids kindly made the beds with the blanked left intact as they must have realised the problem too.

I have recommended in the guests comment book that a mattress topper could cure this problem, but if you dont tell them then how can they fix it?

Overall after staying in many many 3, 4 and 5 star Hotels, I would say that this is above average for a 3 star, and for the price we paid for it on a half board basis we have no qualms about recommending it to people.

But please note, it is a distance from the tourist area, its not geared up for couples with little children, other than a kiddies pool and in my opinion not really geared up for people with walking difficulties unless you have the funds for taxis too and fro. The pathways in the vacinity are not buggy/wheelchair friendly and for some unkown reason the Cypriot people seem to like putting lamp poles in the middle of the pathways...so its a bit difficult if your elderly or infirm.

Overall, we were very pleased with the hotel and will definately consider going again next year.

Disappointed holidaymakers

We have just returned from a week at this hotel and were very disappointed with it.The resraurant food and staff left a lot to be desired. We were made to feel unwelcome and the food was very repetetive and boring. As far as the barbecue is concerned "what barbecue?"
The breakfast restaurant tables didn't get cleaned or wilped ready for next people to use the entire time we were there.
There were 3 couples in our group and the towels in all 3 of our rooms looked like dishcloths and in some cases smelt like them.
Linen and towels NEED to be changed more than twice a week in a holiday resort with temperatures that hot.
The lack of knowledge of information regarding outside interests i.e golf club phone numbers etc is not very helpful to tourists.
The one really good thing about this hotel was the excellent bar staff (Gabor and Shahid) went out of their way to be helpful, friendly, polite and actually made the holday worthwhile.
None of the 6 of us would return to this hotel.
The holiday info on this hotel needs to be updated TRUTHFULLY.

ok but very far!

Good hoilday

Just got back from a week at the Agapinor. We are a couple of baby boomers just wanting a week in the sun chilling out, and we achieved this. The hotel was very good, food, service etc all as expected. The staff are wonderful, very cheerful and helpful. There was a DJ a couple of nights - again very good. We spent a lot of time lazing round the pool, and although there quite a few young families there, we were able to relax sipping our drinks.
We went to the harbour a couple times by walking there and back, but as we like walking the half hour walk was not a problem. We also went to Coral Bay on the bus, this is easy and cheap. I have read a couple of reviews on here which were rather negative, all I can say is that this is a three star hotel, and for the money we paid we were very pleased. Ideally we would have liked to nearer the harbour, but then we would have to pay more which we couldn't afford this time. We were in the town, and there was a nice bar just a minute away which was good in the evenings, plus a couple of bars open in the market area (5 mins walk) so don't believe it when you read that nothing is open in the town. Also, the hotel put on a disco a couple of nights which was fun. We are sun lovers, so we were up early for breakfast to get out by the pool for a full day. Although the pool shuts at 5pm, we were often still out there until 6pm, and the staff were perfectly ok.

It is a bit noisy in the immediate area, but if you book into a hotel in the town then this should not be a surpise or a disappointment - the hotel was wonderful, food good etc and a comfortable room. The sheets/towels are changed twice a week which is enough.

Overall, for a three star hotel we were very pleased - and everybody we spoke to was also very happy with the hotel. If you want a more scenic setting, and more nightlife then this might not suit, but then you would probably have to pay more.

Good Value For Money

We have just returned from the agapinor hotel in papho market. The hotel was very clean and the staff where very friendly. We stopped on a Half Board basis, the food was ok, there was a choice of starters and there was theme night every other night, from BBQ night - Cyprus night..

The pool was nice, and very clean. Considering the hotel is based on a busy shopping street. the pool is a nice haven away from the hustle and bussle.

We had a street facing room and, durning the day there is traffic noise, but the evening it went quiet.

We found the location in a nice area but it is about 2 miles from the harbour.. it is a good walk down as it is down hill. but there are buses that you can catch. the number 10 stops right out side the hotel,(from harbour to hotel). Also we has a lot of experience catching taxi's. they are vey reasonable

The hotel is in the market part of paphos, which personally i prefered as it was less commercialised and had some nice bars/resturants.

Also the bar called no name on bar street is worth a visit..

the true story

from A TripAdvisor Member
We were not happy with the location, being stuck in the middle of town with traffic whizzing by at all times. The food was very repetitive and amounted to good food ruined.e.g. roast beef that was cremated.During our stay one of the entertainers was sacked because he brought in a fried egg as a joke(something the residents never saw during their stay),perhaps because management saw it as some sort of threat! The cleanliness was poor. Our room had filthy taps in the bathroom, towels were often like dishrags and I don't think a duster was ever used.
Changing towels and sheets only twice a week is not acceptable. Also our mattresses did not have covers on them, which is most unhygienic.
We would most definitely not use this Hotel again and feel it more a mediocre commercial Hotel than one to be used by Tourists.

Enjoyable 4 weeks at Agapinor

from A TripAdvisor Member
We had 4 thoroughly enjoyable weeks on halfboard at the Agapinor from 14 November to 12th December arranged through Mercurydirect. This 3* hotel is very well managed, very clean and we enjoyed the breakfasts and evening meals. The front office, restaurant, waiting and cleaning staff are most courteous, friendly and helpful.
Our room was on 3rd floor at the front and we enjoyed the local flavour. The room warm air heating was very effective on the odd chilly occasion that we had to use it.
This is not a beachfront hotel but if you want easy access to the old town, the shops, museums, local buses and walks into the hinterland then this is for you (and us!). The harbour, Mosaics and Tomb of the Kings are within easy walking.
We enjoyed the entertainment available 3 nights a week, especially the Friday DJ!
We certainly will return to the Agapinor.

it was ok

from A TripAdvisor Member
We arrived after having been delayed at manchester for over two hours so obviously gratfull to be there. i had seen this web site after booking so i had rung thomas cook to try and ensure a room at the back. on arrival my worst fears were realised. room 116. full views of washing hung from balconies, someone sitting opposite with her feet up picking her nose!! yes it was that close!! we shut the curtains. had we come on holiday to inhabit a cell?? full credit to the hotel. and thomas cook we were moved the next day (had no sleep however due to the road noise) and were much happier in fact the views were super. we will not go back there (see below). if you like a quiet life see if you can book an apartment in Pissourri direct, lovely restaurants etcet, by the way check the menus in the port at paphos, watch out for meAt/fish that has been frozen, frankly mcdonalds would be better. Cyprus is lovely and are the people including all the staff at the Agipnaor. especially the bar man. a little test, look out for the bazouki singer in the harbour who knows no greek music because she comes from romania. this is fairly typical of Paphos the bars/hotels are all staffed by eastern europeans, they are all delightful

way out

from A TripAdvisor Member
Allocation on arrival expecting beach / and bars near by, ended up stranded in the town centre at the mercy of Taxi fares to the harbour and night life in the evenings as the local buses stop running at seven o clock.
The entertainment in the hotel was sparce and consisted of a bazouki player on one night and a dj on Friday , if you require something to eat in the evening , do not buy the sandwichs out of the chiller cabinet as they are stale and they have crisps with them which are soggy, not recomended !! there is nowhere nearby to eat or drink in the evening.
town centre shuts down at 7 00pm
All the staff are pleasant especially DIDJES the Latvian bartender in the evening .
Breakfast starts at 7.00am till 9.30am on the dot , which is far too early on holiday for a finish time , this should be reveiwed, also this meal is quite farcical as there is very little food or plates replenished and the tables are not cleared quickly enough and it is not worth getting up for .
We opted to eat out at breakfast .The hotel is clean and the room we got was a sea view although the sea is 3k away it was pleasant outlook..

Lovely accomodation

from A TripAdvisor Member
We spent the first 2 weeks of September at the Agapinor and having spent many a holiday in Greek 3 star accommodation was very surprised at the high standard offered at the hotel. As many of the other reports have already stated, the staff were all very friendly and rooms were cleaned to a high standard on a daily basis. The air conditioning was a little feeble the first night but I believe this was recharged and from then on was working to a satisfactory level. It is definitely worth making sure you get a sea view room as the front of the hotel doesn’t have much of a view at all, with local flats looking directly into the rooms. The sea is however some 3km away, but it is at least there unlike some “sea view” rooms I have stayed in in the past. The pool is nice, but the sun lounge area a little small if it gets busy, and the pool tends to shut a little early (5pm when we were there) which is disappointing if you have been out all day seeing the sights in the 90° plus heat. I can’t comment on the food as although we were bed and breakfast I like to have a lie in on holiday so it was never sampled.

It is a bit out of the way of any nightlife etc. and it is a good ½ hour walk to the harbour area – downhill all the way! Coming back we tended to get a taxi and that cost £4 a go. The buses do run frequently from just outside the hotel during the day and it costs 70 cents each no matter how many stops you go. So you can go all the way to Coral Beach some 10km away for the same price for what is almost door to door service. The buses do however stop running up past the hotel at about 7.30pm which is a bit of a nuisance so it had to be a taxi in the evening – or walk again!

The hotel is mainly full of Britts, as is the whole region, which is not to everyone’s taste as it felt a bit like Torquay with heat! Not that there’s anything wrong with Torquay, just that when I’m abroad I like to feel as if I’m abroad. The plus side is that due to Cypriots driving on the left it made driving around a lot less stressful – having said that I saw several near things with continentals obviously forgetting what side they should be on!!

All in all the Agapinor was an above average hotel and it would have been perfect if it was just a bit nearer the harbour area, but as a hotel itself I would recommend it to anyone who doesn’t want the night life and is happy to sit around the hotel bar areas of an evening, as there was generally some sort of entertainment provided.

PS go visit the mosaics in the archiological site next to the harbour! (be sure to take plenty water!)

Top Local Tips for Paphos

first class bus service Buses are frequent, reliable and cheap I never used a taxi once. Cypriots are very friendly and helpful so don't be afraid to ask lets face it theyr'e on cypriot time which is all the time in the world

Location You are 4km from the harbour. Its a hill downwards which is ok when its bright but not ideal in the dark. there are not any nice restaurants in the old part of paphos and they all seem to be down in the new town

Buses There are regular buses which will take you to either Coral Bay, the Waterpark or the markets for 80cents per person.
