I was a guest at the Centrum hotel last October; it's a very nice hotel with spacious and very clean rooms, and a friendly staff. Excellent value for money.

Top Local Tips for Nicosia

Don't miss these restaurants Loxandra's for reasonably priced terrific meze. Do not miss the yogurt with honey and walnuts for dessert. Just across the Green Zone on the north side, as soon as you pass the checkpoint be sure to try Hamur restaurant. There Manti and Borek is out of this world. Do not miss the sweet pastries filled with cheese and cinammon for dessert.

Border crossing A new border crossing opened in April 2008 at Ledra Street (very close to the Centrum). This saves you having to walk or taxi to the border crossing at Ledra Palace, and also makes the city feel much smaller and more accessible. Also, contrary to my guidebook, you can only bring 40 cigarettes over the border, NOT 200 as stated, beware, they will be confiscated!
